Boredom, You may already know of the website where Drew Howe is "selling" bunk titles to be the "Baron of Mann". There is another website www.faketitles.com run by Richard, the 7th Earl of Bradford (legitimately) that works to inform folks about the fact that one can not, generally, buy a title. I have corresponded with Lord Bradford a few times, and he is also very leery of Drew Howe. So, count me a one not-so-stupid Yank who thinks Drew Howe is up to something. Me smells a rat.

Don't misunderstand me on the 'stupid yanks' comment. Its not a general insult. Its just aimed at the sort of nouveux rich cretins that think a phony title imparts some gravitas. It seems to be that America has those in spadeloads. Unfortunately we have our own share of delusionalists who wash up here claiming to be titled because they won the lottery and bought some phoney title. The fact is that people laugh at them behind their backs wherever they are because they are idiots.

My problem is that I know that I'll be on a plane three years from now. Somebody will ask me where I'm from and I'll say the Isle of Man. At that point they'll say "Do you know that I'm Baron Jurby" and at that stage I'll want to punch his f**king lights out.

This is just starting to get funny.

So you didn't say "As much as I hate to throw water on this fire -- his pedigree does check out", despite the fact that others have poked holes in both his pedigree, and, if valid, his claim that it entitles him to be king? Or accepted that all he wants is a simple "restoration of his ancestor's titles"?

Please. So far you've questioned the motives and sense of nearly everyone criticising Howe, who you've not commented on other than to say that he's clearly not a windbag, that there might be something in his claims given an erronious comparison and analysis of a vaguely similar case regarding the English crown, and that you think he'd be good for tourism if declared king (which is the last argument of the desperate here). I don't think you're in any position to imply that anyone else isn't regarding this issue objectively.

Also, despite your repeated attempts to brush the matter aside, Howe's past is important to the debate, regardless of whether or not you care about it: after all, aren't his proposed subjects justified in being concerned about their glorious monarch's character and integrity?

My spidey senses are tingling.

I know. The crap spelling of 'dodgy' was the tipping point.

Manxamillion - a poor subterfuge, inexpertly executed.

And, your post made me laugh, my friend! I'm am not in the least insulted. We all have loons to deal with. And, we must admit, that bashing the US is a kin to an olympic sport sometimes, but yoodles like Howe (err, "His Majesty") make it bad for the rest of us. I, for one, am enjoying the unravelling of his claim right here on these boards. Someone might want to alert his celebrity friends, though...

Oh come off it already. I merely made the point that his pedigree checked out. One person said it did not and I provided the reference used by the same website that he was using that he claimed poked a whole in it. I never said that made him the King -- only that his pedigree was correct. I think enough can be said without adding things that are not factual. I'm questioning no ones motives I simply provding balance to the discussion spiderman.

Except when it comes to those making, apparently, "daft comments" and that "stalker". Adding a largely favourable assessment of Howe whilst tacitly supporting his claims by nodding at this comparison with the English crown here and pointing to a source there is not adding balance to the discussion.

I note you're still not actually answering any of the points anyone's made with regard to your own arguments yet, such as poking holes in your tourism theory. You seem mainly to be fixated on clearing His Royal Shiftyness' good name.

By the way: If it is you, Drew, (and on the chance it isn't, just in case he's reading from his palace) a couple of tips regarding your letter to the Independent

1. That God bothering stuff isn't going to wash over here. When Tony Blair refused to answer a question about whether he or George W. Bush prayed together, he did so because he knew to say yes would be to invite only scorn and incredulity from us heathen bastards. Nor will the "ordinary man from an extraordinary background" bunkum. You might be thrilled at the opportunity to live out 'The Princess Diaries', but unqualified admiration for the underdog is much less pronounced here - hence we still have the aristocracy you're trying to barge your way into.

2. Don't say "I don't expect everyone to understand this. That's okay. Perhaps, one day everyone will" - it makes you look like a potential psychopath.

3. Asking how much Manx people know about Malawi isn't an answer to your reign being challenged on the basis you know dick all about the place you're hoping to be King of.

4. We don't like you. Please go away and stop bothering us before we start getting ideas about october revolutions.

Vinnie before you launch your revolution you might want to take note that he doesn't have any power. Oh and Mr. Howe if you are reading this know that Vinnie doesn't speak for everyone here. I would encourage you to take a visit and see for yourself.

On behalf of the People's Revolutionary Committee of Mann, I declare that the people of Mann are no longer prepared to suffer this reign of terror any longer.

King David seized the throne of our beloved Island through mendaciously publishing an advertisement in London Newspaper. We feel this is not sufficient justification to crush the stout yeomen of Mann under his aristocratic jackboot. At the very least this coup d'état should have been conducted through the Manx Media.

Under my mandate as leader of the People's Revolutionary Committee of Mann, I declare that King David is no longer King of Mann and that I shall assume the role of President of the People's Republic of Ellan Vannin, until a successful hand over can be made to the appropriate civil authorities.

Anyone who objects to this course of action is requested to state their objections in the next 4 minutes.

Vinnie we've already had an October Revolution.

Its official - Wiki says so:-

http://en.wikipedia....iki/Isle_of_Man

"Royalty

HRH David Howe, 16th generation great grandson to Princess Jane Stanley and the Stanley Kings of Mann, on August 15, 2005, with knowledge of no other similar claim, formally reclaimed the royal crown of the Kingdom of the Isle of Man and the associated styles and any non-regnant authority, supported by the issues and claims of merit herein.

After a 4 week investigation conducted by the London Gazette and the Crown of England, both conceded and published a notice of this claim in the London Gazette dated Friday 19th January, 2007. The gazette notice went unchallenged, and HRH David was crowned the undisputed King of the Isle of Man on Friday 30th March 2007 becoming King David of the Isle of Man thereby restoring the hereditary legacy for future generations."

Its odd that Crown investigation / approval is not mentioned in the announcement (and he got the date wrong)

Said it before, and will say it again, who crowned him?

BTW, I love the deliciously comic juxtaposition of 'The Sultan of Sheight' posting on a thread about 'The King of Mann'!
