PK, would love your thoughts on this one, you seem to have strong views on cheats and divers

File under:
"It's ok. He's English and he's gonna win us the World Cup so we'll ignore it". See also: Gerrard, Cole, Terry, Heskey, Defoe ...

However, having watched the above link 3 times, why did the bloke in white whoe "tripped" rooney have his hands in the air complaining of the "dive" before he had even caught him up on the field?

It's a non issue really. The referee caught it and cautioned him so it didn't affect the outcome of the game.
Which I must point out was a 0-1 win AT Old Trafford to Villa

I wonder where Rooney got the idea from? It's just so similar to this one from last week.

I disagree. It's a major issue because it's becoming ever more prevalent. Rooney got booked - good. I would also hope SAF would have words about it as well.
I still want to see retrospective bans from the FA as it's the only way to maintain what's left of the "game". My partner's 14-yo has signed a contract (well, actually she did for him) for the local League 2 side putting him on the bottom rung of what could be a career as a professional footballer. What sort of example are these cheats setting youngsters like that?

2 players who both dived, the ref spots one and not the other. Why does the press completely go berserk with headlines of cheat and other professionals calling for the game to be replayed and to ban Eduardo for 10 games in some cases. Then for Rooney we get hardly a murmour.
I dont buy this because Rooney got a yellow card. It's because as Godfather points out he is English and untouchable.
For me it is hyporicasy at it's gutter press worst. They didnt even mention it on MoTD when summing up, disgraceful.

If Speedo isn't English how is it he can play for England? The mention of Arsenal's Eduardo made me smile at this irony:
"1619: BBC Sport's Phil McNulty at Anfield: "Arsenal have been uncharacteristically careless in possession so far and Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard look dangerous. Gerrard looked to be brought down by William Gallas in the area but Howard Webb ignored Liverpool's penalty appeals. Liverpool's captain was criticised for going to ground easily in the area at Blackburn last week - has he just paid for that moment here at Anfield?"
As for MoTD it puts out the highlights, not the lowlights, of the day's action. Too bad what they put out didn't happen to suit your bias or agenda...

It seems to be one rule for one type of player and one for another.
As you have pointed out in your red text above. BBC say that Gerrard went to ground a bit too easy, no words of cheat or bringing the game into disrepute there. No mention of Rooneys blatent dive on Saturday at all on Match of the Day apart from in the game commentary. I'm actually surprised they showed it at all.
Gerrard should have had a penalty yesterday, just like Eduardo should have had a penaly a few weeks ago. It looks like their reputations arent doing them much good.

The outcome is what determines the reaction. Same with Henry & Maradonna. Someone handballs. So what? Happens all the time. Someone hands the ball and then scores = outrage.
Double standards you could argue, but you've got to be a bit mental to think it's racism or xenophobia.

Just as Ronaldo and SAF realised, which is probably why SAF stopped it.
PS - no such thing as "should have had a penalty" IMHO.

Two good points. Firstly IMHO the foreigners, players and managers, are blamed for the serial diving infecting the English game by importing it. Probably a fair shout. Secondly if the pundits start throwing accusations around how long before a player rings his lawyer? After Xabi Alonso had deliberately and disgustingly had Fat Frank sent off by rolling on the ground in "agony" after a non-challenge all the fearless MOTD pundits could come up with was Ruud Gullit saying "I think it's a foul against Lampard." Litigation rules it would seem...
