Weather Forecast

The Met Office in Ronaldsway has issued a code red weather warning as freezing temperatures bring blizzards to the Isle of Man.

The warning says rain will freeze as thermometers plunge below zero, and up to two inches of snow could fall as well as sleet and hail.

By tomorrow morning, some areas of the Island could be under up to as much as four inches of snow with drifts borne on winds.

Police say you should carefully consider whether car journeys are necessary and only set out if you absolutely have to.

Cool. Really cool.

And only one down from bright pink. The people who come up with these designations probably watched too much Joe 90.

Bad weather could cause problems.

Who'd have thought it?

Kudos to the Met Office at Ronaldsway.

Personally I deduced a slight problem with ice watching cars slide and pedestrians slip and fall over first thing this morning in Douglas.

Having just got back in after a walk with the dogs in 50cms of new snow I just shake my head in wonder and head off for a nice warm bath and some Frank Sinatra on the CD player.

Four inches of snow = a light dusting!

One of the best ads of all time! :)

Anyway, there's no snow here - none to speak of anyway. My little hometown in Bavaria, displaying pretty much the same conditions as they were on the day I had my driving test:

Unless there's at least this much white stuff

calling work, saying "I'm snowed in" or "I'll be late" is simply unacceptable. Learn to drive on the stuff - it's fun!

Shouldn't that be a 'code white'?

I thought code red was reserved for plagues of raining blood...and code 'blue, white and red' for plagues of raining frogs.

It's all very confusing.

we don't get snow, we only ever get a fall of slush !

We also get the impression that people who live in cold countries cope with snow like it's just normal, but if you look at things like this (with google translate) "it's chaos out there" !

Quote

- There is chaos in the traffic in several places now. It is also difficult for the police to get out there we will, "said Inger Myrtveit by operation center in the Hordaland police district.

The police are in place in Kringsjå Road on Laksevåg to direct traffic. They has now blocked by Fyllingsveien after several cars jammed in the steep hill.

- It is extremely slippery there. Now we have a brøytebil up to the location, says Myrtveit.

More trucks are stuck. See video.

Crash with snow vehicle
Also on Kalandseidet it is smooth.

- A car and a brøytebil have collided. Subsequently, NOK a car crashed in the back. Both the police and tauebil is on its way to the site, said Myrtveit.

No person shall have been injured in chain collision, but it has encountered long

Trouble on Sotra
- At Sotra, I have the impression that there are vehicles and trailers stuck in all slopes. We are on the way out there, but it is difficult for us to get past queues. It is terribly slippery there, warns Myrtveit.

- It's insane driving conditions from the Sotra Sotra Bridge. Cars are the cross and across the road. Even the salt car got no further, says a Sotra frustrated motorist.

- Now I stand parked at Sartor Senter, and it seems not look like it is need to sit in the car. The traffic does not move at all, "says he.

- The municipality isolated
An accident on Highway 555 towards Municipality has created chaos, according to Tove Skrede.

- The switch never wrong, we have been waiting for it all day. A car has driven off the road on Krossleitet, two miles south of the Mountain Church. Now the chaos. Even the snow the car did not get past the accident on Krossleitet, "said Tove Skrede.

Trafikkaoset creates concern.

- When the cars do not get over the curves of Krossleitet, the Municipality isolated. The only connection to the Straits is the small ferry that runs between Hjellestad and Klokkarvik. It's something serious now, as a fire or a woman will give birth, so we are dependent on the helicopter, "she says.

- The bus had to give up

Desperate tipsere rings constantly in the bt.no. Terje Dallan butcher snow emergency preparedness:

- The bus up to Smørås can not come up because there is not cleared. I then it just turned. This is a Fylkesvei. They ought to give priority to snow here, "said Terje Dallan.

He is also exasperated with the council's contingency.

- The local roads in residential fields Apeltun is not yet cleared. It is reprehensible that so many hours after the precipitation was notified, they have yet failed to prioritize this. They say they are in full readiness. What kind of preparedness are they? It is tragikomisk, "said Dallan.

- Take it easy
- All snow and sprinkle the cars are out there and have worked all night, and they will continue throughout the day, "says Tore Tysse, alert the operator by Road traffic center in Hordaland.

He has the following advice to motorists on the busy road to the Christmas trading:

- The first snow is always a bit special, so take it easy, drive carefully, and always keep a good distance for such a cause. Do not stress, there is no better of it.

The Driving instructors should be out teaching people to drive in WINTER conditions. or will the ice and snow be blamed on global warming.

Put some 13" high profile skinny wheels on , Simples , then enjoy your driving !

 The Covert police cars will be f*cked now with their big fat wheels

I'm already looking forward to the drive to work tomoz. I'll be stuck behind someone in a Volvo driving at between 5 and 10mph. I feel pre-road rage!

Yesterday it took me 5 hours to get from Manchester to Cambridge to do the xmas prezzie run. There was a lot of snow and the roads were wet. You know, like when it rains. Now I know that a lot of kids have never driven in snow. But there's no need to do 30 mph on the A1 just because there's snow on the verges. Mostly young girlies BUT some dickhead in front of me went to turn off and stopped because of the snow on the road in front of them. Errr, excuse me but your stupid indecision is blocking the A1, did you know that? No you didn't because you are a f~cking useless driver. I wonder how a lot of these folks have a driving licence in the first place...
