What I really fail to understand is how the thing can not be made reliable? It was built for a purpose which it isn't being unreasonable to expect it to be able to fulfill, it can't be rocket science?

Someone needs to mount a broom handle on the front of Thomas the tank engine and charge at Longworth at 40mph whilst he's hands-tied over the buffers with his pants pulled down.

Yes, surely they did this with both they and the manufacturer being experts, were able to make a sound judgement on the practicalities of the spec change?

I've heard from an anonymous source on the railways that the convo went something like

Manufacturer - you don't want to do that

Longworth - I'm an expert

Affects design changes to cooling system

Longworth - it's broken

Manufacturer - told you so

Longworth - help us fix it

Manufacturer - nope you fucked it up

Definition of an "expert"?

An ex is someone who's over the hill.

A spurt is a drip under pressure.

Or if he's not, he should be.
