There is an interesting article in the Torygraph today:

http://blogs.telegra...lism-needs-god/

Seems to make some sense.

I don't think that is the right question to ask. It's a rather silly way of looking at things. Capitalism is all about individualism and self-interest and greed. You could try and plug any set of morals thinking that includes an interest to think of others (it doesn't have to include some God) to possibly reduce the degree of individualism. Though that would be a conflict of interests.

But do people need something to fear so they aren't greedy and self-interested? Well maybe if they are these sort of bankers. I wouldn't having too much if they literally had the fear of God or something worse put in them so they might spread their salary around or do nice things.
But the problem is where they work and the system they work in.

I agree. Now that it's been 'found,' shouldn't it be 'Is the Higgs Boson Particle' necessary for capitalism.'

I remember in one of those awful RI classes when I was young a fellow bored student asking the teacher:

"Why is it that we are told 'thou shall't not steal' at the same time as also being told that 'God helps those that help themselves'?

A core problem for capitalism.

A good article though, it does explain a lot about our current situation and how things evolved.

It didn't stop Britain from exploiting other countries and slaughtering their inhabitants through the centuries though?
