You can often initialise/reformat the HDD from BIOS.

If you have the OS disk you can reinstall and format the HDD while instrlling.

What's the OS?

I used to press and hold down either SHIFT F5 or SHIFT F6 when powering up but if you ask Google "How to" there are those who will tell you..(Or was it SHIFT F8?)

There should be a sticker on the underneath which has a windows licence key written on it and a version of the operating system.

Which OS does it mention

I have re-formatted laptops by using this tool.

https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows10

Choose create installation media for another PC.

Burn the ISO to a disc then install using that disc.

Here is an article about it http://www.zdnet.com/article/heres-how-you-can-still-get-a-free-windows-10-upgrade/

I'm not sure if you need to upgrade the PC first, then install from the disc to keep the license valid. I'm sure I didn't need to do this for the last one I did. I think it transfers the license over somehow as long as it is going on the same hardware.
