Mixed UK Economic Data

In the old days English pirates looted Spanish gold galleons to cover the trade deficit. Later it was the colonies that paid for the upkeep of Blighty. Today it is the City of London and the banking industry. Same system, different methods.

I notice you've been doing your Manxeconomics blog since 23 September, and I commend you for your efforts, but...there isn't very much in it about Manx economics is there?  There are a lot of things I would like to know about Manx economics but don't have the time or knowhow to ferret out for myself.  For example there's this:

https://www.gov.im/media/1358013/detailed-government-accounts-year-ended-31-march-2017.pdf

which is 116 pages worth of Government smoke-and mirrors and I would like someone to tell me what it really means, preferably in words of no more than three syllables, and where the Manx economy is really heading.  Or there's this:

http://www.iomtoday.co.im/article.cfm?id=36427&headline=Will we be alive and healthy at 110 years old?&sectionIs=NEWS&searchyear=2017

Should we invest our savings in anti-ageing research as this will, according to IOM today, "ultimately bring a big return for investors" (short answer, in my view, no, the guy promoting this nonsense is not a doctor and doesn't know what he's talking about).  If you wrote about stuff like this I'd be more likely to read your blog.

There's a course on Manx Economics available online.

I've copied the content for you below.

The western world would certainly be a better place if this happened. Not so sure the rest of the world would agree.

Hello BallaDoc,

Thank you for your comments. I will look into your links and see what I can make of it. The Manx budget is certainly worth an analysis.

Er, aren't you confusing the trade deficit with public debt?  Looting galleons doesn't help the trade deficit, but I can quite understand that it would help reduce public debt.
