The higher cost of living isn't enough to over compensate for 45% of your wage disappearing before you see it at the end of each month or the cost of commuting by public transport into a major city each day or capital gains tax if you fancy trying to better your lot or even trying to buy a house in an area where you're less likely to wake up to a machete in your kids face in the middle of the night.

Maybe...but I don't live in Foxdale.

...by the way...anyone recently analysed how personal tax allowances on the island and when you start paying tax at 10 and 20% have been changing over recent years?

IMO...If this IOM treasury trend continues the middle earners here, with taxes along with NI, will within very few years be facing tax at similar levels to the UK...especially considering the higher cost of living on the island.

Interested on your thoughts on that.

It'll continue as long as we have a socialist state as the major employer, masquerading as the growing, burgeoning economy. It has to be funded from somewhere as it's unproductive itself, just a facade of (frequently) non-jobs to give the impression that it's all still on the economic boil.

The bottom line is that it increasingly makes the IoM unattractive in that financial respect.

Depends where in Douglas, where I live is perfectly pleasant and paranoia free but then the general riff raff don't come round this neck of the woods.

Yes ironic really that the Island seemed to pass a major milestone last week in being shown to be the place where you can’t even give your luxury house away in a £20 raffle. Hardly an economic indicator anyone will want to dwell on I think.

You still get entered into a prize draw for the cash that was generated. Does anybody know how much it was?
