apparently companies are calling mobile phones and immediately hanging up when the owner answers.

When the unsuspecting owner of the phone calls them back it turns out to be a company offering debt advice, but the call is being made at a premium rate.

This is doing the rounds on a few forums i frequent but i couldnt see it here so thought i would just give a heads up.

> Bathroom Installer
Posted by Gorsh - 02-8-10 16:38 - 4 comments
Hi All

I'm looking for a tradesman or firm - probably a plumber who can design and fit a new bathroom start to finish - ie all plastering, electrics, tiling, etc. There are a few names in this thread, but has anyone a definite good firm or plumber who would take on all the work that they can recommend please?

Many thanks.

After all it cost's more to employ DHSS staff than it does to look after people on benefits.
Civil service shocker?

...and administrative civil servants still won't admit they're paid too much.

Can anyone recommend a good portrait photographer on the Island? I'd like to get some shots of my kids and parents(together and individual portraits)

I've seen some stuff but I'm looking for something a bit different.

Lots of stuff about budget cuts have been annoying me recently as our Government seems incapable of taking a rational approach to anything BUT the BoE in particular I feel is guilty of quite disgusting double standards at the moment when it comes to the issue of student grants.

I hear Ballakermeen delivered a message to its sixth form students last week warning that grants as they exist now may be completely different going forward and keeping the students in the picture as to what could ultimately happen (which I suppose is responsible at least) but at the same time the school is still running the usual University trip for any kids expecting to go to Uni after they complete their A levels. Surely this is a bit like making a small child look into a sweet shop window before closing the door on them? Why should the BoE build up students' hopes about going on to higher education at the same time that it looks clear that BoE bean counters are going to potentially pull the rug from under them?

Its almost mental cruelty. After all of this callous window dressing how many parents are going to have to turn around to their kids and say 'Sorry no grants available so you can't go' by the time they complete their A level courses?

Surely any student in sixth form now has picked his or her A Level options based on what degree courses they intended to do at Uni. How then can the BoE now turn around and potentially threaten to destroy those plans? Many would have been better taking different A level subjects or even taking vocational courses if ultimately they will be unable to get assistance to go to Uni. Worse we're actually still putting them on coaches and busing them round to campuses that they may now have absolutely no chance of going to. I think that its appalling and completely cruel to build up an expectation in these students that may ultimately come to absolutely nothing.

If the BoE wishes to disillusion a whole generation of Manx students its certainly going the right way about it. It really is quite disgusting non jointed up thinking.
