Apologies for the delay in publishing this as I haven't had acccess to a computer since yesterday afternoon.Yesterday (Monday) evening's practice was run in near-perfect conditions and this was reflected in the total number of machines scrutineered - 234 (170 solos in various classes and 64 sidecars.)John Donnan, Ray Porter, Guy Martin and Irish star Ryan Farquahar were amongst the first machines on the road, all riding their Superbike (1000cc) machines. It was however 3 times TT winner Adrian Archibald from Ballymoney who was first over the line at the end of Lap 1, with an average lap speed of 122.21mph, which equates to roughly 18 mins 35 secs (I don't have a split second speed table!) John McGuinness went round in 121.96mph (18m 32ish secs) and other leading times included Richard Britton who did in the region of 118mph and Ryan Farquahar likewise. These two riders have very similar personal best lap times around the TT circuit and were once again matching each other corner to corner. Many riders pulled into the pits after one lap to make adjustments to machines, the most common problem appeared to be suspension settings. Saturday's practice, with all the wind, was seen just as a warm up by the vast majority, as conditions were to poor to accurately test setups. Amongst some of the riders to stop were John McGuinness, American Thomas Montano and also local stars Paul Hunt and Gary Carswell. Hunt zapped round at over 119mph in his first lap but stopped to make changes before continuing. Everyone was in agreement that conditions were much better than on Saturday and this was shown by the improved lap times.Lap 2 produced faster laps for many of the riders. Archibald was first round again having gone straight through the Grandstand after Lap 1. He recorded a slightly quicker 122.93mph average speed (18m 32s ish) but this was topped by McGuinness who blasted round at 125.04mph from a standing start, having made adjustments! This was about 18m 06s.After Lap 2 many riders switched machinery and went out on their Superstock mounts (1000cc, much like the old Production 1000 TT.) Top of this class was Archibald who recorded a 121.89 mph lap, with Britton and Bruce Anstey not far behind at 119.78 and 119.57 respectively. 119.5mhp is just about 18m and 56s.There were no Dave Molyneux/Dan Sayle in the sidecar class due to machine trouble so local lads Nick Crowe and Darren Hope were first away, and they produced two fantastic laps, the second of which was quicker than they had ever lapped before, although this is unofficial as record times must be set during a race. From a standing start the Number 2 slidey lapped at 109.75 mph (20m 42s) but Lap 2 was even more impressive, a lap of 111.41 mph ( 20m 19s,) which was almost 9 seconds quicker than their previous best lap of 110.61 mph set last year.Gary Horspole was the second quickest, with Mark Cox in the chair - they lapped at 107.04 mph which is about 21m 09s. Horspole makes a return to the TT this year after being absent last time, he will start at Number 5 in both races. The evening's practice was however tragically marred by the death of a Swedish rider making his first appearance at the TT. Joakim Karlsson crashed his Superbike Suzuki in Kirk Michael. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.Below are the top 10 times for each class, and some other selected times (rider number in brackets):TT Superbike1. (10) John McGuinness - 18m 06.27 secs2.
