  1. I know Dan, hes a great bloke, regardless of my own personal opinions about the TT or the Festival of Motorcycling it is fantastic news to see and hear that he is on the mend. I wish him the very best for a full and speedy recovery. At the end of the day he's a human being, and a good one at that...all the very best Dan.

  3. Before reading that I wasn’t sure, as I think there’s a bit of ‘looking to be offended’ going on here. But if Rog says it’s not racist it almost certainly is.

  4. Like you, I have banged on about getting our own infrastructure updated to allow bigger vessels into Douglas Harbour. Until that is addressed any money we are parting with on port infrastructure outside of the Island is largely wasted.

  6. I think it's quite funny. Not racist or sexist in my eyes. It's criticising her for behaving like a spoilt child when she can't have her own way. Nothing to do with her sex or colour. She spat the dummy (which is also shown in the cartoon) and the cartoonist is taking the piss out of it, as he quite rightly states.

  9. The National Association of Black Journalists said the cartoon was “repugnant” on many levels. Why aren't there any white people in that association? To me, that association is racist and one wonders what reaction or comments they would say if it was the other way round and there was an organisation called National Association of White Journalists? While we're on about racism, why is it ok for black people to call other black people niggers, while white people aren't? IMO, there should be one rule only about that and its either ok to say it regardless of the colour of a persons

  14. Naomi Osaka is drawn correctly. Her colour in the cartoon is far closer to Serena than the (pinkish) umpire. In real life, Naomi has a blonde ponytail worn under a cap. Everything about Serena is also correct (for a caricature): the size, the hair, the heavyset face, the stupid skirt. The tantrum.

  15. Serena has form where behaviour is concerned and she deserves this. She's the world champion for god's sake. I expected the cartoon to be worse but it's neither racist nor particularly good. It seems you can't do cartoons of black people, women or Muslims, only of ridiculous white males.

  19. At the end of the day we need a 'reliable' ferry service. It really doesn't matter where to, it really doesn't matter how big the boat is, all that matters, is that we can rely on it. The weather in the Irish Sea will always be a problem, so my view is that that fact alone rules out any further messing about with fast craft. Whilst it might be nice to be able to go across to Liverpool for the day on the boat, how many people actually do it? I suspect that the fingers of one hand will probably be sufficient to do the counting. So my plan would be to abandon the fast craft, and ab

  32. Please explain where I claim to have better intellect in the above post, John? With the sort of money that is being proposed here, Douglas harbour could be opened up for larger vessels (with the advantages of economies of scale, as has been discussed many time previously on these boards) and then utilise established UK facilities. Yes, Holyhead if necessary. Or look for alternatives in the Mersey estuary. Why are we leaving ourselves beholden to Peel Ports at every turn and opportunity? We need a 21st century facility capable of serving the Island's freight and pax needs 365 a year.

  36. Agreed. If we are developing a new berth in Liverpool (not Birkenhead) and have to move from existing site, then we must be able to move freight through it as well 24/7, not just in "emergencies and on the weekend in the winter" Ask the major freight forwarders over here where they would like to sail from in UK, and I'm willing to bet Liverpool would be the preferred option, being closer to their distribution centres. Further, this proposed berth is restricted to Heysham/Douglas max size 142m. Why??? Well, in the proposed location there is not enough space for a bigger berth, but you are

  45. Yep, till the next fatal accident during practicing or racing. Then comes the Government sponsored inquiry, which decrees that the reduction in marshals played a part in the resultant accident. However, the Marshals are unpaid, perhaps the Clerk of the Course could recommend to others that various civil servants involved in the running of Motorsports in the island, are made redundant. This would be a step forward.
