  1. I do find it all a bit uncomfortable when people are going round every link on Facebook encouraging people to complain about it. If the people who listened thought it was worth complaining about then absolutely crack on but this whipping people up into a frenzy to make an issue of something before they have independently made their own mind up is a bit wrong.

  2. He repeatedly interrupted and laughed at them. He wasn’t interested in the point of view or getting them talking about their experiences. To the extent that the first caller rung off frustrated. He didn’t do that when Quirkio said there’s no such thing as white privilege because his skin burns in the sun. Or when another caller drew conclusions about all black people “or coloureds” as he called them one kid had been shy around him but friendly with somebody he knew and thought that was racism “against whitey”. I think it’s because Stu has a limited world view and can see the point of

  3. I once worked with Stu Peters and found him to be well read and traveled, with a very wide range of views. He was always kind and thoughtful when dealing with a very wide spectrum of customers. Stu was not privileged and was kicked out to find work and stand on his own two feet at an early age. He was brought up with black friends and later colleagues and is no stranger to different races. Stu has a dark sense of fun and a dry sense of humour and is no stranger to sarcasm. One thing Stu is not , is racist. Too many “ know fuck all’s” throwing their two pence worth in without having a

  4. They’re just woke folk. Let’s keep surfing the media and social media looking for the next thing we can get outraged about - even when they have no apparent or actual real life experience of the thing that apparently outrages them so much!

  5. It seems it was Stu's contribution to the thread on here which prompted the callers to come on to his programme 'Late, Live and Unleashed'. I thought he behaved respectably whilst teasing out some good points from the callers? Isn't that the purpose of phone in programmes? I can't see racism in any of his comments, just asking the questions which a lot of people would ask at this time! I almost think that this was a set up by a group of friends who have set out to try and trap him. He didn't say anything at all racist, other than to question whether is existed to any great degree on the island

  6. Another supposed shitstorm here on Fraggle Rock. Manx Solutions for Manx Problems - bound to entail a screw up, and cost a fortune. I really hope that Stu Peters gets a fair hearing, and is not subjected to the Manx Lynch Mob mentality, with a hatred of successful and financially independent people, than a concern with justice.

  7. Just listened to the whole exchange. Stu certainly said some clumsy things - the bit about not being more privileged for example - but I don’t think he was racist, nor was he disrespectful to the callers. He was polite, and he was interrupted as much as he interrupted. Trouble with racism accusations, particularly for those made against people working in the public sector (NHS, local authorities etc - public broadcaster too I suppose) is that they’re investigated with a “guilty until proven guilty” approach (not my line - I think I got it from a book about NHS whistleblowing) - Stu m

  9. I didn't get the feeling he was trying to discred BLM, just what the purpose of a demo here was. It certainly seemed like an ambush, three confrontational callers in quick succession which were intent, not on a debate, but on discrediting the presenter. None of the three actually engaged, just tirades. The presenter tried to discuss back and was talked over. It was just dreadful.

  10. Well I've just listened to most of the broadcast, the disrespectful tones came from the callers rather than Stu Peters, they were trying to goad him at every turn. The black chap, 'Jordan McGuire' sounded very Manx, considering that he has only lived here since 2016 I thought? This seems like an organised rant by three people who want to stir things up racially. Sometimes these things have a way of backfiring!

  13. He accepted it though, and they got a platform to explain their thoughts. The free speech thing works two ways, if Stu didn't say what others were thinking, they wouldn't be able to come onto the radio and explain their position to those people! It's a late night radio phone in for that very purpose, isn't it?

  17. As explained by others in this topic, it's obvious he was set up by people who know each other. This was a planned attempt at getting a reaction, followed up by a fake shitstorm on social media. Because being woke and outraged is all the rage these days, everyone went right with it. Now self righteous wannabe SJWs are telling everyone to check their privilege and I feel like I walked into a South Park episode.

  18. I've listened to it (and I'll never get those minutes back ) I'm sure he could have worded a few things better. Maybe next time he should get a focus group to ratify every single word and inflection? But he said nothing particularly wrong and bent over backwards to be polite and accommodating. He just didn't 100% agree. It's pathetic how intolerant our society has become that he'll be made to suffer. Agreeing 99% is not good enough for the woke generation. It's 100% or you'll pay the price. #ReinstateStuPeters

  19. If what Stu said is gonna be perceived as racist, we need to stop allowing the Gov to fund trade missions to South Africa to bring people over. I know plenty of Saffies here and if you want racism.. get them drunk and let them rumble. Stu is always on the border with certain topics and I personally don't see anything overly offensive made.

  20. What really disturbed me with the UK protests yesterday was that these so called 'activists' attacked police officers and shouted slogans at them, when UK cops kill extremely few people. Only 3 in 2019, one of which was a terrorist. That's not exactly how you get the public on your side. Sure, US cops are more fucked up, but also not as much as the press makes us believe. Also, a lot of the knife crime and murders in London involve minorities due to all sorts of reasons (organised crime, gangs, lack of social prospects, etc). So write to your MP and ask for political change but don't beat up t

  21. If you’ve heard the clip (it’s on FB now) it isn’t really that controversial. It seems like some sad teenager full of her own self righteousness and her silly student mates who have nothing to do currently have blown it up out of all proportion. It wasn’t a classic Stu Peters fauxpar of the inferior Jeremy Clarkson variety sadly. He even agreed with her at one point. This has all the classic signals of a #metoo “2” style social media trend about it. Everyone is jumping on board claiming they’ve been affected even if they’re very clearly white.

  24. Sorry HeliX, cheap shot. This whole thing is obviously a complex issue, it's not going to be solved with silly name calling, which is more or less what the 'gang' did to Stu Peters last night. That is not taking hold of the situation and convincing him or anyone else of anything, it's the silencing of debate. A technique which smacks a bit of Common Purpose, who seem to want to live in a socio/fascist utopia where we are 'encouraged' to have the same beliefs and opinions. Racism will die out eventually as the people who have perpetuated it die out. At present it is still about even in ve

  25. I’ve downloaded the entire 3 hour .mp3 of the show. If I get time tomorrow I’ll cut all the music and adverts out so you can listen to it. Stu said nothing wrong and was basically attacked from the start by some precious flowers after they didn’t like the factual stats he posted on here yesterday. It escalated from there.

  26. I've just listened to the playback of the programme. Absolutely nothing wrong with anything that Stu said or didn't say. He was courteous, gracious and professional. He spoke for me and I'm pretty sure he spoke for thousands of other people on the IOM. You hear what you want to hear. The two callers, Jordan and Lucy, had determinist points of view and you either agreed with them or were wrong. Binary thinking allows of no shade or nuance. Where is their outrage at the police actions in Hong Kong ? Where was the demonstration against the Russian poisonings in Salisbury ? The poor copper dragged

  27. I've listened to it. I don't think he's racist, but I think he's naive and arrogant and ultimately part of the problem. The dismissal of the idea that black people have it any more difficult than anyone else is just cringeworthy. He was quite patronising to callers who were trying to explain this to him, and to say that the English are the most discriminated against on the island was just an awful take. I would hope that the current discussion would lead to some people taking a step back and listening to what black people are saying, rather than telling them they're wrong and they

  31. Whenever a spat like this surfaces (and I find that the same is true of things like high-profile defamation cases) I almost invariably find that both sides have behaved like dicks and I reject each equally. And so it is in this case. Declan has identified the ill-considered nature of SPs remarks and his partial, misogynistic, clumsy and disrespectful approach to those callers. This young woman's self-righteous, posturing, equally discriminatory (yes, it's always those awful older men who are racists isn't it) and frankly juvenile narrative simply detracts from a vital subject. The point is that the people who continually use phrases like that are doing so because they're overwhelmingly astonishingly thick. Is the absolute failure of huge parts of the western world to handle the pandemic the fault of China?

Possibly a bigoted idiot, possibly a stupid idiot, possibly some combination of both. But definitely an idiot. See also people who use the terms "remoaners" and "snowflakes". It's genuinely depressing how people can not understand the fundamental difference between black on black deaths, white on black deaths and the situation where you have the actual Police killing black people (at a completely disproportionate level to how many white people they kill). 48. I expect the protest will be in front of the U.S. Embassy in Douglas - otherwise an IOM protest about police brutality in Murrica makes no sense except as a virtue signalling snowstorm. In other news (saw this on a graph earlier) , in 2018 the USA had around fifty thousand white on black violent crimes, compared with four hundred thousand black on black and around 550,000 black on white violent crimes. ALL Lives Matter!
