  2. That's looking to me like it's building to a Wednesday circuit breaker. Damage was likely done in the days before these people were told to isolate. They should have gone for a Fri to Mon lockdown (at least shutting venues, surge tested and shut the pubs). Pubs were packed Fri night and Sunday. Instead of losing 4 weeks business...nip things in the bud over 4 days.

  4. It’s this strange fetish to ensure they have enough second doses on standby for all those who’ve had their first dose. Theres 10,000 plus doses in the fridge sat waiting. Total mess. They can be delivering 1000 a day. They’ve done less than that over the last 3 days.

  5. ....and if the rest of the world was killing all first-born sons; that would be OK, you'd go along with it and expect the rest of us to do so as well. For goodness sake, use what remaining freedom of thought and action you have and make your own decision. If you want to spend the rest of your days hiding under a face-nappy, then feel free - but don't come and question or condemn those who don't share your timidity. Why would any sane person outdoors in fresh (and usually gale-force) air even contemplate that there was any risk? The Great Brainwash is almost achieved.

  6. Isle of Man Government don't believe in masks. They are a bit like these Covid deniers when it comes to masks. A bit like Donald Trump used to be. But even he changed. All around the world people are wearing masks, especially at press briefings (it puts out the message), but only Isle of Man Gov boys do they do it so reluctantly. Like the tough kids in infant school being made to wear a bobble hat.

  7. Following on...I got my letter today, phoned 111, eventually got through, pressed 2 as requested, after a long while was answered to be told I had used the wrong extension.?? (I'd used 2 as requested).....the girl put me through to 1 !!...The guy on 1 said, 'oh yes I'm doing both'. Dunno what on Earth that meant. Fortunately, all ended well and I've got first and second appointments at Chester St. Weird, or what ??

  8. It's interesting you say this, as if it is of any meaning, a good thing even, a reason to downplay it all. What it actually shows, is how quickly things can move, from 1 to 21 in a matter of days. It should serve, as if another was needed, as fair warning.

  9. I’m neither superior, nor erudite. But your position still doesn’t explain why YOU want an antibody test before getting vaccinated. It’s simply not relevant. And someone, anyone, taking Covid into Abbottswood a year ago is no reason for you to put off getting vaccinated. Look, I’m immunocompromised, leukaemia fucked off a lifetime of immunity, I can’t wait to get jabbed. No idea if it’ll work. But I lose nothing. I had pneumonia vaccine in November. I had antibody test for that recently. I scored well. So my new white cells work, once prompted. I’m now reviewing all my childhood illn

  12. Perhaps the staff working last Tuesday are isolating, and it’s opening with others. Or just the actual contracts of the positives are off and kitchen staff can stay on. We don’t know the exact situation, but I’d trust those that do to advise correctly more than the commentators on Gef’s Facebook page.

  13. Personally speaking, I'm shocked that it's not a free-phone number. 111 can't be a chargeable number, surely? I've never had to ring it so I have no experience. But....really? It costs money?!

  15. I received a letter this morning inviting me to make a phone call. I dialled, but the number just rang unanswered for several minutes so I hung up. I tried again later, with the same result. The third time, the phone was answered - with a machine playing never-ending crap music. Maybe one or more attempts. Eventually I got a response saying I was "tenth in the queue". So I hung around, thinking this was bound to be successful. When I got to be first in the queue a human being asked why I called, I quoted the letter, he said "I will transfer you to the vaccination team" - I got the ringing

  16. And how many are ready for their second doses I wonder? Surely all that has to happen is a subtraction sum. Yes, I'm that naive. I'm guessing the 10k plus with be supplemented with new arrivals? I wonder what it would be like, to live in a country, where the government know exactly what they are doing and demonstrate it clearly to the public so they don't have to keep second guessing about just about everything. Does such a country exist? I'm moving there if it does.

  21. "When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less." "The question is," said Alice, "whether you can make words mean so many different things." "The question is," said Humpty Dumpty, "which is to be master—that's all." And that's the problem. They're more interested in playing about with words so they can pretend they are in control rather than dealing with reality and actually controlling things.

  24. It's only "inevitable" if people keep soiling themselves of a few covid cases. It would be far more constructive if people started to get used to the idea that covid is here to stay. Rather than living with this deluded eradication ideology. I do wonder how some people are going to function in future.

  25. Unusually for you Roger this post shows a fundamental misunderstanding of antibodies. They’re proteins. They can’t be ‘genetically different’ from other antibodies. They will be different in their individual amino acid sequences, but apart from engineered monoclonal antibodies there will be a multitude of different antibodies. If a person is infected with covid they will generate thousands of different antibodies that react against various bits of the virus. If a person is vaccinated they will generate thousands of different antibodies that react to different parts of the spike protein. They’r

  27. Listening to the news there and it talks about all the positives about opening up they then get to schools and still have to have someone negative on saying why opening schools is bad rather than having someone positive on welcoming back the kids. The media need to have a long hard look at themselves about the way they've acted during this whole thing.

  28. Why are you worried about it? Whether they or who introduced the virus is a matter for the investigating authorities and, if they did, it was likely completely unintended. You just worry about what is best for you and your family - you will tie yourself up in knots and do yourself no good if you don't focus on what you can control.

  34. Disagree there. I interpreted Ashford as saying: "As we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns—the ones we don't know we don't know." Which is far simpler.

  35. I think you need to understand the process. I’m not sure what hours the sampling test station is open. But say it’s a mid afternoon sample, it goes to the lab, gets cooked, processed, and then identified. Takes a while. Then the person from whom the sample came has to be told, then they’ve got to be contacted by track & trace, that takes time. Then cross check and reference. Then tell the venue, if you can, then check authority to issue the public notice. The idea is to put out useful information as soon as possible but without causing mass panic or without it being thought of as cry

  36. But that is the plan surely? Protect Nobles through eradication until all the vulnerable plus quite a few more are vaccinated. And then when the UK opens up, we get to a point when we can start to open up. Of course Covid will still be around after all that and thousands will still be dying from it annually (possibly 20k plus in the UK - given 11k die annually from flu). Given the numbers (from a wide range of places) that could arrive here after the borders open e.g. RoW business, TT etc. and occasional RoW variants arising - and taking into account the percentage not willing to be

  37. Most of us are quite attached to our Grannies, and I'd rather pay the price of a few more months, than put them all at significant risk of death. The elephant in the room is that things will open up with widespread vaccination, but until that point, nothing in our situation has really changed. In the meantime, we can either be like Guernsey or Jersey, where restrictions have endured much longer and been much stricter. Or, we can suck it up for the remaining months with the summer to look forward to.

  38. I think we’d likely have seen cases show up before, given that it had been 3 weeks since last “unknown” case. Though, if there was a time for the genomics tracing to be sure in a hurry, it’d be now. I agree with your point on contact tracing, though just before Christmas, Dreambird were asking for a party name and phone number for contact tracing. I thought it overkill at the time, but actually it’s completely sensible in the context. Being in Java Express for an hour will have people trying to think if they popped in that day, some people may misremember and convince themselv

  39. But we don't know if they are really reporting a problem or just making the odd casual remark which have got amplified as they went up the hierarchy. Or whether it was all in an anonymous letter that has since been shredded. What is certain is that they won't be making formal assessments of these people as to what they can and can't do - just assuming their capabilities from a fairly short contact. It will be an informed guess - but still a guess. And all of them should have been over 75, so some mobility restriction isn't unlikely. Thinking about it, I also wonder if there is some c

  41. But how are they assessing people are housebound or not? Just because you can hobble down to your gate on a good day doesn't mean you can make it down to the Airport via three buses in dreadful weather each way for a pre-set time and date. Which might be a date when you can't even get out of bed because your arthritis (or whatever) is particularly bad. A lot of conditions are very variable, which might be fine if you can turn up on a good day without appointment, but not if it is fixed in advance. And that's before you even start considering mental conditions like agoraphobia. Th

  42. It seems to have meant that on a day when you would expect 111 to be deluged with calls worried about having contracted the virus and wanting to book tests they made the decision to combine the service with vaccine booking. It's the sort of everyday incompetence that we seem to have given up even noticing. I'm pleased but amazed you got through (I'm amazed anyone did). And like Rachel I'm just shocked that 111 isn't free on-Island. It's free to both mobiles and landlines in the UK and people may well be confused and assume it is here if nothing else. Many of the poorest people (includ

  43. You don't need to wonder, they publish that information. https://covid19.gov.im/general-information/covid-19-vaccination-statistics/ There are 10215 doses in hand for second shots, out of the 11901 they've got. It doesn't tell you which brand they are though (although they have a breakdown of brand administered). I suspect that under pressure and increasing evidence they will prolong the Ox one after this week, but the Pfizer one should stick to the guidelines cos the evidence from Israel is clear.
