  1. Any politician's apology is uttered from between clenched teeth. In their nature, it's an admission of failure that comes as an absolute last resort after all other measures of spin and denial have failed.

  2. The issue is not just about what it looks like. It is more to do with consensus-the idea of communal consent, also natural history, environment and visual amenity. This is manifest in everyday life for the rest of us, as planning regs. Many of us have gone through the regs - windows, extensions , roof lights etc - things never to be seen by the passing public, but also larger projects that other people can see. However, most of us accept this - It can’t be just us deciding what is “aesthetic” and “OK “. Unfortunately, this issue has introduced leverage that a

  3. That’s not what I said. Lots of people historically had issues with paper censuses. Illiteracy rates were much higher and just as much a problem. The letter was clear we had until 14/6. It’s hardly new. We’ve been having decennial and mid point censuses all our lives. The difference is, instead of getting on with it, a few are publicly moaning and whingeing vociferously on social media.

  7. You’re still being hysterical. Yes, I changed my view about vaccination interval when it was falsely reported by Government that IOM had 10,000 more vaccine doses than we actually had. And I’m annoyed about the 2 week hiatus, which could have been avoided with forethought 10 weeks ago.

  8. It’s also worth noting the knock on effect it’s caused, most trades are booked up for at least the next 3 months, coupled with shortages/increasing costs of materials, so in a way even the office bods have been affected, they’ll be waiting longer and paying more to get jobs done.

  9. Also it's not just Assface who deserves the stick, that dickhead education minister who said 'schools are perfectly safe go to school' only to shut them 2 days later with 100 odd infections deserves a beating. In fact the whole fucking lot of them who MET VIRTUALLY while saying everything is fine 2 days before LD3 should be dumped out immediately. Some of the mistakes have been massive. Your preposterous support is actually insane.

  11. Dose management does depend on supply. We’ve 10,000 of that 14,000 in hand. You’re assuming no deliveries for 14 days. They’ve had 10 weeks to recruit and persuade uptake. Im not being selfish. Have the people delivering vaccine into arms been working 24/7 flat out with no time off? Chester St has only been delivering Mon-Fri for weeks and Ronaldsway Fri, Sat Sun. what happened about using all the volunteers?

  17. They clearly expected that the report would be much vaguer and spread the blame around more. But the geniuses at the Cabinet Office clearly hadn't even sorted out the one thing they are supposed to be good at - paperwork. So there was only one place for the finger to point. The only thing you can say in Ashford's defence is that it really shouldn't be him apologising at all. The Minister in charge of the Cabinet Office is Quayle and all the faults came from there and the Attorney General's Office. But then it seems to easier to apologise for things you aren't responsible for.

  18. If we're to be stuck with it, we might as well sell it to the few remaining tourists as a Manx Stonehenge. An early neolithic expression of prescient nationalism, older than the Pharaoh's pyramids. We could flog off pieces of the stone for £10 a pop. That's one way to get rid of it. Think I'll give Skelly a ring tomorrow...

  19. Well to be fair, who could have expected that everyone would try to fill in forms that everyone had to fill in? It's worth pointing out that Censuses are really important because they force governments to encounter reality. Rather than thinking they know what the country is like they are forced to go out and ask questions and count. And it usually ends in them realising they have got some things wrong - no matter how carefully they have extrapolated from past data or other sources of information. That is why the best way of doing them is still having an enumerator go round from d

  22. You're right, of course. Morally, you are 100% correct. What holds the people together are morals on every level. We rely on that model to keep us safe. I do know you are just, calmly and very nicely (for a change) putting an opposing perspective, and we need that as god forbid MF would turn into somewhere like QAnon with everybody thinking the same. But, a line has been crossed. Many lines have been crossed, and the people have seen it, and they don't like it, and they don't like it even more because they also know that there's not a cats chance in hell of him being held acco

  25. I don’t think anyone, even people on here thinks it will be easy. I am sure though that most normal, sane and right thinking folk, would expect the systems involved to work, and to work seamlessly. There is a communication issue, an IT issue and a Reprographics issue. An easy to understand idiot proof revue of the situation: 1 By insisting everyone did the census online, they created confusion and doubt, add in the usual threats of fines (which are the hallmarks of IOMG) and you have scores of grannies, and other vulnerable folk trying to phone the census line for a paper copy. 28. Yes. But. The result depends on the questions and can be modified and altered until the type of question tends to give the answer the govt. wants and hides the important questions such as length of time you have had to wait for surgical intervention, estimated amount of surplus cash each week? Have you damaged your vehicle because of road surface, have you had difficulty accessing covid testing after a journey? I'm sure the clever ones amongst you can think of many more meaningful questions which will enable govt. to provide for the people who elected it instead of dealing in obfuscation, mis

  33. Nope. Come away to catch up with some friends but mainly to deal with some seriously depressing family business that should have been done months ago if we had decent people in charge. Unfortunately it had been hanging over us for months. Their continuous incompetence is really winding me up. Literally every dealing I have with any government department (tax office exluded) is cock up after cock up and i don't want them to keep getting away with it. The census is just the latest display of total incompetence

  35. Dandara haven't done that, the planning department has over the years insisted on the "Faux Manx Cottage" look for new builds. Rectangular boxes with painted render and chimney stacks either end. Quite horrible looking things but the developers wont mind, they are about the cheapest way to build a house, hell even the rectangular bit gives you the most square foot per linear meter of external wall you can build, (in the right proportion W X L). Which means a 900 square foot Faux Manx costs a lot less to build than a traditional brick of the same floor area with a more pleasant

  42. Not sure that I entirely agree with U, Glad, about knowing they were wrong. It is like a kid who nicks his brother's sweets, and Mom forces him to apologise. So he grudgingly says "SOR-REE"!, but doesn't really mean it. Woodward has been vociferous in demanding an apology - so Ashie, with an eye on the elections in September, has issued a grudging one.

You can't "get on with it" if the phones don't work, the site is down, you have been sent the wrong code, your post code is wrong, you have two codes, or you haven't been contacted at all. My Mum breezed hers in 10 minutes. Everything was correct and she caught it when the site was running. Elderly lady, not very computer literate. My brother had a nightmare, several phone calls over a number of days and hours on line for him and his family. Six figure salary as an IT Manager. He isn
