  1. I just voted for the first time ever! Put a tick against everyone’s name, and a cross against Josem’s to make sure he definitely doesn’t get in.

  2. What do the tubes of sealant signify. I'm thinking it's an ode to Tracy Emin's 'My bed'. I'm not to keen on the dancing figures, but the rucksack and sealant are wonderful contemporary glints in to the artists mind. An emotional resonance of the workers toil against a backdrop of crazy paving, swirls and roundels. A cacophony of styles squeezed into a tight space, the workers last stand in a battle of civil engineering and grace. Oh, right he hasn't cleared up yet...

  4. On the MR website, Bernie Quayle died today at the age of 80. Probably one of the last and old school radio presenters/broadcasters, who could actually present and had a personality. My condolences to his family.

  5. They've just spent a lot of money restoring it after it was used for the (totally unnecessary) vaccine hub as well. Presumably putting the ingrained dirt back doesn't come cheap.

  15. So who do we think will get in today. Mine are Rushen - Watterson and a close run thing between the other three I want the Green Guy but I think it will be Dr Michelle ACM - ABC (anyone but Cregeen) seems the popular choice, but maybe that vote will be split three ways? Moorehouse and Glover (just) Middle - Double-Barrelled MLC to top the poll. DJ Gammon and MC Woke next. Both have wide support outside the constituency but outside the bubble of their own groups how is it going on the ground? I'm going to trust reason triumphs over gut instinct and Keeran wins. Douglas South - Christian and Maltby Douglas East - Joany and Barber Douglas Central - Thomas and Corlett Douglas North - Ashy and Peaky Onchan - Rob and Edge Garff- Caine and Gareth Ramsey - How cares, the whole town has gone potty about the marina when there's more important issues. It should probably be expelled from the Island - The Doc and the Chippy guy Ayre etc - see Ramsey - Cannon and the teacher lady Peel - Double-barrelled MLC and Crookall So 13 returning MHKs plus 3 recent MLCs back, strong MLP presence, Lib Van decimated. I feel quite positive but even if it's a reshuffle of the tired old faces at least it will give them a chance to draw a line under the Quayle period and start again.

  16. The Manx Twitter Covid cranky club are urging for all members of the ‘Council of Morons’ to be ousted at the polls today. They can’t seem to work out the correlation between increased cases & schools returning. They want (our) your children to be denied a valid education so their retirement is quiet & risk free. Fucking lunatics.

  17. Covid is here for the foreseeable future. Double jab recipients are being reinfected. More people need to step forward & receive their vaccinations to at least attempt to mitigate transmission & we all have to accept this is now a part of our lives. A few of us here have been consistent throughout. Live with it & take your chances or hide yourself away but please do us a favour if so & stop crying like c***s all over Twitter regarding hidden figures & conspiracies.

  29. I’m sorry but I completely disagree with you regarding the marina. As always, as the cliché goes, “I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it”. Or, as another cliché goes; if we don’t show solidarity when ‘they’ come after our neighbours, then one day when ‘they’ come for ‘us’ as well, there will be none left to speak up. I do not want property developers to take over the best environmental spots on this Island, to the detriment of everyone else. Building expensive houses for (super) rich people will do nothing to close the gap between better-off and skint on this Island. Furthermore, the IOMG never stops talking about the Island’s ‘biosphere’ credentials as if they were accolades. I fear that this project could cause an environmental disaster. My view is that the development plan in its original form was a slap in the face of the ordinary people in the community, that the proposed changes are an improvement, but still more changes will be needed before the majority of people support it.

  30. The whole place looks run down and unloved. Starts with the cover of the walkway into the terminal that looks like it hasn't been cleaned since 1987 and ends with being left standing in the rain because no taxis are queuing there anymore, only pre-booked. Bad first impression for any visitors.

It's a mix of mostly my preferred, but some who I think will get in, but I wouldn't vote for.

  32. The London plane service from here remains a very bad joke and is now a big hindrance for anyone going to/from London to work. Looking at Jersey arrivals today, 3 from Heathrow, 2 from Gatwick, 1 from Luton: and Guernsey has 4 from Gatwick. We just have the Easy Jet cattle truck to Gatwick going at inconvenient times. But it is encouraging competition apparently.

  33. Me too...the only doorstep visit I've had was from Hooper, nothing from any of the others unless they called when I was out at work. As posted previously, I'm just very reluctant to vote for anybody for a continuance of the last 5+ years and to legalise in any small way the furtherance of the squanderfest and incompetence gala that we've all witnessed. It is an utterly out-of-control juggernaut of self-service, troughery and incompetence within the Public Sector, with excuse after excuse in defence and nobody has mentioned how they are prepared to address it, unless the new COMIN suddenly evolve some testicles. Report after Report publicising failure after failure is a simple fact from the last two years alone. I know I "should"; but I can't see how voting for anybody is going to instigate any "change", we had a 50% new House last time and it's just got worse and worse, the only bright spot at the moment would appear to be falling unemployment, assuming the figures are genuine. I suspect that the new administration is going to be inflicting a lot of tax rises on the local population, over the next two years in particular. Much pain to come methinks.

  34. She has enough about her to play the bus card, which will mop up the votes in Jurby. Personally, I think that someone who hasn’t got the gumption to learn to drive really shouldn’t be considered to have the gumption to take a seat in Tynwald.

  41. Yeah I was probably a bit harsh on the doc, for managing to get the abortion bill through alone he deserves re-election. I’m hoping Haffinin gets in just for something different and to see what he can do. Dreading the thought of DJ Gammon getting in, sad indictment of the Island if he does.

  43. Smart dog. Seems MJ has been at Methodist church all day putting on his show and greeting voters, something other candidates weren’t always happy about. Fair to say he’s proof there is an I in Team. No sign of any volunteers, supporters, etc. All a bit bizarre. Turnout seems low so if you haven’t been voting yet, please do!

  45. I'm voting AL-N because I want to see progressive parties establish themselves in Tynwald, he's passionate and articulate and our priorities align and Juan because he's done a reasonable job as chair of PAC - I'd like continuity there. MH spoke well, would make a good team with Juan but her manifesto was a bit lightweight. MK improved on last time, manifesto is an information dump, but when speaking didn't quite have the substance of the other three, not a disaster either.

  47. I am an Onchan voter, and I have read Rob's manifesto. Considering that it is such a weighty tome, one thing that struck me was that I could not find a single word about the dreadful mismanagement of major capital projects by the DoI, and consequent waste of public money, the need for much improved governance, accountabilty and transparency, and the overhaul of the senior ranks of the CS. I know that Rob has been a Member of the DoI for the last year or so, but this is no reason to ignore this significant issue. Just saying.......
