  1. Search the hashtag #plagueisland on Twitter and you'll literally be balls deep in the fucking halfwits. Led by illuminati such as Steve Burrows & John Wardle, championed by ex-local rozzer Dudley Butt & whipped into a jizz filled frenzy by the seemingly menopausal Glover. It's a smorgasbord of wrist slashing depressive tripe.

  2. Just a little reality check. The last pandemic we had, although it was never classed as such due to the "type of people" affected, has claimed over 36m lives. Another nearly 38m are currently 'living with' AIDS/HIV. And the infection and deaths from AIDS/HIV go on. AIDS was a certain death sentence, COVID is not, although those with AIDS/HIV are more vulnerable due to their compromised immune system and that many are in countries with poor medical care. There are very many other diseases causing premature death and severe illness but the focus has been on COVID for almost two years. Time to get a grip.

  3. Why do you need to be contacted of you already know you have been close to a case ffs? We are all close to people who would test positive if tested all the time. Get over it and take responsibility for yourselves.

  6. I'd guess they're probably upset about the 4 deaths over the last week, reacting excitedly to the headline without once again applying any context whatsoever. But that's only a guess.

  16. Two months after the election (though to be fair it's more like seven weeks) the governing party releases the first draft of its manifesto. Let's not be too hasty here.

  17. Agreed. That is a pretty awful post from someone in public office. The sort of post that late evening you might think it might be influenced slightly by some merriment earlier in the day. You would expect that not to be the case at 09:20, so just shows awful judgement and a low opinion of others. Still my favourite to get turfed out mid term.

  19. The danger is that their minority view is then taken as being that of the wider GMP. Take this for example. One of the Doom Coven posters Lawrie Hooper and now Contact Tracing is back on the agenda (link to the Coven on Twitter in the article) https://www.manxradio.com/news/isle-of-man-news/contact-tracing-delays-a-concern-but-are-being-investigated/ In the real world most people have now just moved on. If they get ill they take an LFT and let people who they've been in contact with know. If people are worried about having it with no symptoms they take a twice weekly LFT. No fuss or bother - of course that's not good enough for the moon-howling Coven members. They demand Government intrudes into our lives once again.

  20. He doesn't bother me as I don't use Twitter and I didn't even know who he was until earlier this evening, but his doomsday cult can attract impressionable minds and also scare the living daylights out of the older generation, many of whom have been mentally scarred the past 18 months and will likely live out their final years in relative isolation because of this.

  22. Well done for trying to save some carbons. You have been awarded one gold star. Remember looking like you're saving carbons is more important than actually making a net saving of carbons.

  27. I did some “Active travel” Isle of Man style today. 10 minute walk to save taking the car. Had a meeting then 10 minute walk back to my original location before heading to a couple more meetings. No idea how many carbons I saved, but I will need a burger to replace the lost calories. In addition I had to get changed which meant a 20 minute drive home and an extra load of washing. I also only have one branded work jacket so that had to go in the tumble drier for half an hour. The forecast wasn’t for rain at the time I was out but it shows how unpredictable our weather is and how non suited we are to active travel. As well as being soaked and uncomfortable, the overall impact o the environment was bigger than if I had just taken the car. I had similar recently when the person who checks on the dog at lunchtime phoned to say she couldn’t get there. I had walked to work, so had to book a taxi who had to do the trip both ways plus driving to me. It doesn’t work. Just make the roads bigger and wider and make more parking available. The reduction in the time people are either stuck in traffic or driving round looking for a space will see a bigger reduction in carbon output than a small number of people leaving the cars at home. They are trying to make it difficult to use a car. Make it wicker and easier and the impact will be greater

  28. It’s plain embarrassing. I like Alfie Cannan and I think he was the best choice for CM we had but he really needs to start duffing up these incompetents. Black has gone and it simply isn’t far enough. They need to get a few full on cultural change people in there on contract and just start ripping through heads.

  29. I cannot see how anyone with any conscience can think about putting it on without major work being done ON THE WHOLE COURSE. there's a crap ton of other roads that are in a shocking state, the Douglas sections alone need complete proper resurfacing. Still the TT fans will enjoy watching the air ambulance fly about, the travelling marshalls speeding around and track marshalls red flags flapping in the breeze. edit: FYI before i get called a hater and doom monger, i don't mind the TT at all, it just has to be done as safe as we can make it and IMHO it isn't even close to it.

  31. Yes, although many people have contributed financially to the foundation in the belief that it is benign. The sentiment and the organisation sadly are inextricably linked through the name which even confuses the vast majority who truly believe that Black Lives Matter. 35. Long Covid is just another name for illness. My sister suffered a pretty severe bout of the flu a few years ago, knocked her for 6 for a decent spell afterwards. She didn't refer to herself as suffering from Long Influenza, she just took that as a wake up call that her body wasn't in great shape if it couldn't fight off a flu bug without having some lasting issues, so she joined a gym, decided to lose the extra pounds and smartened up her diet. The 'Long Influenza' disappeared soon after. Post viral fatigue isn't new. What is new is the name given to it for this fancy new variation.

  36. So being good at spelling and grammar is a mark of whether an opinion has merit or not. When you registered for a GP did you give them a spelling test to decide if they were fit to be your GP and pass an opinion on you? Spelling aptitude, according to most academic experts, is a poor way to judge somebody's intelligence or cognitive ability. But then you know better than experts.

  39. But that relates to the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation and the majority who show support for BLM are not supporting the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation but for the BLM social movement which is against racism and anti-black violence. The latter often originally being in the form of police brutality. The name BLM was to basically state that the lives of Black people should be valued just as much as the lives of white people. Nor more not less the same. Surely it is not that hard to understand

  40. You give the impression that you have never been motivated by much so I don’t think anything that I say would make a blind bit of difference. I make no secret that I am of the opinion that you are a racist bigot, al be it not of the card carry BNP type. Based on your time on talking heads on Manx Radio you never came across to me as somebody whose understanding of an issue went much beyond a Daily Mirror or a Sun head line and seemed happy to simply reject or accept something you were told based on your beliefs. A statement from a person who was a serial conspiracy theorist appeared as credible to you as an eminent professor stating scientific consensus. Often more so if their theory was in line with your views. None of that I expect will bother you one bit. I am not overly bothered one way or another that you are an MHK. Most individual MHKs appear to achieve very little and whichever 24 individuals got elected at any election I expect the IoM will proceed down the same basic path. I might be concerned if I needed the help of my local MHK on a matter as again, based your time on the radio, I would have zero confidence in bringing a matter to you. If somebody could spout utter drivel on your programme without challenge then I doubt officials will see it as much of a challenge to fob you off. Over the years I have had respect and contempt for politicians from both sides. Similarly people in powerful or influential positions. Those that I tend not to have respect for are those who basically lie outright for their own purpose or who basically spread miss trust of facts and experts. I include you in that latter group. The current rise of populism I find very concerning. I perfectly understand that based on information available people might come to different conclusions but not that people choose to ignore the facts/information. e.g. experts might opinion a massive bolder is unstable and could easily come crashing down killing several people. Person A might be of the opinion that £x should be spent removing the bolder and the risk, Person B might say the risk is not worth the costs to remedy and a simple notice should suffice. You might disagree with either of the decisions but at least they have come to a decision based on the information available. They not simply decided themselves that the bolder looks fine so there is nothing more for them to think about. I can understand that lay people may have different views about what to do about climate change but not that the actual scientific consensus that the present climate change is manmade is wrong. Why all of a sudden is there a growing minority who seem to be of the view that the more expert you are or the more there is consensus and agreement the more likely they are to be wrong. When a person wants to put themselves in a position of power and responsibility and be able to potentially affect the lives of others I view it as the height of arrogance that some appear to think that, when they are charged with making decisions that potentially affect the lives of others, they will simply ignore scientific consensus, expert advice etc when considering the issue. If a person wants to ignore available information, expert advice scientific consensus etc then fine, let them be happy in their belief that ducking women is the way to discover if they are a witch, as long as it does not affect others. If however they want to make decisions on behalf of/or affecting others then they should do so based on the expert information provided to them. If they don’t want to do that then have the decency not to stand rather than be so arrogant as to think that personal beliefs are a better basis for making decisions affecting others than facts, proper information, scientific consensus etc.

  45. There are two main arguments the doomsters use when they can’t get their own way on scaring people. Different variants is the first and long covid is the other. It’s like viral Top Trumps. I’ve just raised you new unknown variants and super-strains and long covid .. you can’t possibly trump that in the end of the world card game!

  48. Apologies for editing your post, but it neatly links to an idea I’ve had for a while. Many of the problems in adult health stem from lack of knowledge and bad habits acquired as a youngster. The same for over-reliance on health services for trivial problems that could be self-managed. My solution - scrap compulsory religious education, as it’s totally pointless, and instead introduce compulsory life/health education. Teach kids about health and wellbeing, how the body works, why it goes wrong, when you might need a doctor and when you don’t, teach them about diet and nutrition, and exercise. I know they do this a bit already - PHSE I think it is, but my kids found it to be a bit of a joke. Beef it up a bit, and start our kids off onto the right track to a healthy life.
