  1. Stop all the antique language, streamline the system, lower the number of MHKs, make all island voting and get on with running and maintaining what we have got. Just get on with a modern, supportive legislature, stop the waffling and get the job done! So there.

  2. A ‘perk’ is the wrong word. Security is a better concept. The long periods of sick pay you can get in my line of work were designed to look after you if you needed treating for cancer, or had a major accident etc. So you felt secure in your job, even if you got ill, and that would compensate for slightly lower pay. I know some people seem to think they’re entitled to a couple of weeks off sick each year as extra leave, and others milk the generosity of the system with months off at a time, often just before retirement. This behaviour certainly needs to be challenged and dealt with.

  5. This Govt will carry on sucking the life out of the economy in the name of preserving itself regardless of the effects on the rest of the population. It will continue to grow and feed because nobody has the cojones to stop it. Taxes and charges will just go up and up in order to maintain it (let alone what's going on in the rest of the world) and we are already seeing this. Latest of the long line of deniers is Cannan stating that there's no need for a review of numbers.

  6. The comments on the 3fm Facebook page genuinely hurt my head. It's amazing so many people who quite clearly have no knowledge of any of the processes are allowed to spout their nonsense so freely

  7. Only a quarter of marshals may be Island residents, but I wonder what percentage they make up of those who are present for the Practises. Most people coming for the TT don't come for the full fortnight and it's the Practices that have been called off due to lack of marshals in the past. Alienating the locals may not be a good idea. The racing will still take place of course. The organisers will just decide that they don't need that many marshals and plough on regardless. Safety will always be less important than never admitting you were wrong.

  9. The claim by Courtney Heading against David Ashford ( in his capacity as Health Minister ) was dismissed as showing no cause of action, at a hearing earlier this week. The written judgment hasn’t yet been published on Judgments on Line. I’ll post a link when it does.

  20. So, we have a world fuel crisis, mass murder and millions of refugees needing help from the Ukraine, our local health service struggling to deliver services, and then I stumbled across this absolute Wankpuffin on youtube..I mean, seriously, what a disgraceful circus. Why is the speaker not pulling people like him to one side and telling him to stop making a tit of himself and making a laughing stock of the Isle of Man? FFS.. Please Stu Peters - can't you take him outside and give him a slap?

  23. They're ending the free parking on Levels 2 and 3...wasn't this instigated to alleviate the lack of parking on the Prom during the works? Having finished fucking up the Prom to the regal degree that they have done, it's obviously time to start squeezing the Douglas shoppers again. Every penny counts these days, doncha know...

  28. The Mental Health Act 1930 did away with the terms 'lunatic' and 'asylum' in relation to people suffering mental ill-health, and continuing their use reinforces the stigma which still clings to patients in this unfortunate position. Perhaps the OP could acknowledge that the use of such terms by way of abuse is inappropriate and inaccurate, and find a better way of expressing dislike of a politician.

  35. There seem to be two main models floating around for LGR: central government runs it all and 4+1. I'm all for reform but what model is best? Unless you design the centrally run model very carefully and well, you'll end up with the DOI running the whole island, employing dozens of new staff to cover roles currently held by largely unpaid commissioners and councillors. I'm happy to try and throw this more into the spotlight and get a proper public debate going (as are some of my council colleagues) but I think first of all we need to decide on a few options to debate. Then pick one and work on it before putting public pressure on Tynwald to do it. Like the DOI minister said at our meeting not too long ago: this can has been kicked down the road for 25+ years. How can we actually make it happen? One thing is clear to me: you will face fierce resistance from LA when you try to change anything. At the same time, people don't care about local politics, as seen in the low turnout and many unfilled seats. The only time anyone cares is when the rate bill arrives or the bins weren't emptied.

  37. Keep your hands off Onchan thank you very much we want nothingto do with Douglas with its miserable ways, charging for toilets, charging to park in their park, two weekly rubbish collections, high rates they can get stuffed.

  38. Said it before. Let us see Douglas,Onchan and Braddan combine and prove to everyone that a big authority is more efficient/well run/lowers charges and not full of bloat. Until then I will stick with my low cost, well run rural authority with weekly bin collection.

  39. I agree the forum can be a bit 'wild west' when it comes to how it's moderated (rightly or wrongly). I also think you'll find the word 'mental' un PC. I see the guy on an almost daily basis and I do think he's a bit odd. I hadn't realised until it was mentioned on here that potentially he has a mental health issue. Maybe he doesn't actually. Regardless I would rather speak in absolutes about conditions rather than use these sort of vague terms that do no one any favours.

  43. It is going according to the plan of the DfE/Motorsport Team/ACU events ltd in that the Isle of Man TTMA( with anywhere between 230-680+marshal 'members') has been taken over lock stock and barrel by a new company , TTMA ltd with 2 'members' ("ratified by the DfE")without holding the EGM to do so or an AGM . This has miffed some older members of the original IOM TTMA but it gives the Motorsport Team/ ACU events ltd/DfE total control without having to consult or consider any matters raised by marshals and the ability to "sack" any marshal who fails to adopt /endorse/ applaud any decision ( "without being given a reason and with no appeal"). It remains to be seen how many existing marshals will be happy to volunteer their services , we have been down to below minimum numbers in previous years and , on the mountain ,the sacking of a well respected CSM (for expressing disappointment at the MGP format ) by the CoC ( a leader , some say they would only follow out of idle curiosity😉) perhaps wasn't a good idea. Just saying

  49. Government must be quietly bricking it though. They had a substantial budget imbalance before all of this and have been spending reserves in installments for years. Will the fear of a huge crunch in revenue and spike in costs change any of their behaviour though? No is the answer. We have the monstrous £70M + incompetence of the new terminal in Liverpool still to fund and another pile of vanity projects that will also be grossly mismanaged ready to go as well. Just look at the prom. It’s the exact sort of project you see in Africa after a government has been stripped bare by crooks and left with something that looks like and is worth about 10% of what it cost to fund as all the other money has been nicked.
