  5. Never used to be like this with Manx Airlines

  6. So let’s try again via Birmingham. One observation is that most staff here are friendly, from airline to security. Observed loads of small talk with passengers (tourists who apparently liked it here!) and plenty of smiles, which is great. Fact there continue to be many flight cancellations (two yesterday, today, plenty more see recent news report) is not. Travel links need to be as reliable as possible or any talk of 500,000 visitors and a place as great location to do business is nothing but hot air.

  7. So what’s your solution? With approximately 10% of established posts in health and care across the UK vacant, with retirements pending, and with little significant increases in trainees and thus future inputs to the service. Not to mention Brexit and fewer European workers, covid (still, with staff absences) and it’s holiday season. Manx Care can be blamed for precisely none of that. How should they be ‘getting to grips with it’?

  8. I think what has happened is that the DOI use a different form of measurement from others. It seems to everybody in the real world that it is narrower, mainly because it is. By widening the tracks they have narrowed the road width. BUT they have widened the road width by narrowing the parking lanes down each side so that few cars can actually fit into them. They then measure the width between the parking lanes and pronounce the road wider. Magic!

  9. Loganair a right mess today goodness knows what has happened but Heathrow cancelled , Liverpool cancelled and London City over 2 hours late . The island deserves better than this and passengers need more certainty I hope someone somewhere is holding these airlines to account .

  11. Airline has no staff. Its Menzies. All this joyous talk of connect to the world via Heathrow on Loganair is bullshit when they keep cancelling it or it's delayed which it often is. It's a joke.

  12. We can’t run a basic healthcare or education system at the moment. What a mess. In the meantime other government departments are trying to get people to move here! We are trying run before we can walk.

  13. I think this is more a sign of publicly funded healthcare in the British Isles failing than Manx Care. All they’ve done is put out a press release reminding people that they don’t have to go to Noble’s when there’s another facility available.

  16. I heard one of the new lot of MHKs saying on his radio show (can you guess who it is yet) that there's loads of room for new housing. If you go up in an aeroplane or even use Google Earth, there is loads and loads of unused space. Just get the houses up and cover the whole shebang in concrete, Who needs infrastructure and stuff like that, especially when you can't see past the end of your nose.

  17. New homes doesn't necessarily mean more water being used - it would be a rise in population that would cause that. The government have blindly throwing money at that for years without giving much thought to the infrastructure needed to support it. Luckily, as with most things government get involved in, it hasn't worked and inward migration of working age people has been lower since they've been throwing money at it than it was before.

  18. People cannot be forced to locate to the Island there is a shortage of medical staff everywhere in the British Isles. I am sure Laurie Hooper would love a magic wand as a Birthday or Christmas present. Before criticising try coming up with a solution…no…well that is a surprise you cannot knit medics…if this was a problem pequiliar to the Island it would be a different matter but when it is a issue effecting all neighbouring Islands it is a bit useless blaming any one person.

  26. Or get yourself up/down to Ramsey where they clearly have spare capacity. Opening Hours 8am - 8pm daily including bank holidays. There's a phone number if you want to check. They'll probably tell you not to leave it so long next time, so if you go now they'll be marginally less annoyed. Incidentally there does seem to be A&E cover at Nobles, it's just that it's clearly tightly-staffed and people with more minor stuff might be better going to Ramsey unless they want to risk waiting for a long time.

  30. Ronaldsway is the only airport of the dozens I have been through where my chargers were pulled out and examined. Clearly their training, or parameters are out of step with the RoW. I hope you get your travel plans back on track. Loganair really are a pathetic little airline, with zero operational resilience, that the DoI have got us into bed with.

  38. The left always distrusted the EEC/EU because it was an organisation with right wing aims. No state subsidies, privatisation, even reducing provision of social security in relation to their GDP. Then of course free trade and trade unions were not keen on free movement of labour. Historically the left were more anti EU. It was the for EU president Jacque Delors who decided to court the left. The emphasis on treaty binding workers rights, the Social Chapter was the clincher for the left. It was then the right wing parties became more vocally anti EU. Of course some on the left like Corbyn always mis trusted the EU. Many trade unions supported Brexit as well.

  39. And where is Lawrie Hooper MHK, The Isle of Man’s, Hide and Seek champion, I tell you where, at the bottom of the Mariana Trench. I understand he is upset at Jason Moorhouse for stealing the spotlight. Maybe he is waiting for Alex Allinson MHK to tell him what to do? No, no, Alex Allinson MHK is too busy try to convince everyone the Isle of Man was in a ‘good position’ economically. No, he’s waiting Ann Corlett MHK to convince people to relocate to the Isle of Man, then he can fill the vacancies. Just need to improve the transport links first. Lawrie Hooper MHK has known for months that there is staffing issues at Nobles Hospital, especially within the A.E.D. He, like so many of his predecessors have failed to address staffing issues, or give any reassurances to the front-line staff that their concerns are being addressed. Let us not forget Manx Care said it is disappointed with the leak of the results of a British Medical Association survey which criticised the culture of the organisation, and still nothing is done to address concerns. If you are not up to the job Mr. Hooper, step aside, you might even get re elected.

  41. I agree wrighty, we are seeing at a local level, an ailment of the UK NHS in general. It's made worse by our location and our 'independence' from the UK system. One thing that has annoyed me is the way the NHS 'steals' qualified medical staff from other countries where they are needed, and seems unable to train sufficient staff themselves. Maybe you have more info on that front than I do? One of my many injuries has opened up, I've tried treating it myself during the week to save bothering the doctor or A&E, and this morning I felt I really need to get it looked at, no A&E cover today, so I'll have another go at it.
