  1. Should rename Peel Road 'England Road' it is day by day becoming ever closer to a bog standard shit english town.

  2. Jeez, it's so frustrating. There are so many items that have gradually declined and become so customer unfriendly over recent years. They make less or no profit, indeed they become a waste of money, year on year, the Govt. interferes, messes and makes things so much worse. Are they deliberately trying to create chaos and disaster 'cos that's what it seems like. So often these or similar words appear on these and other forums or sites and the Govt. either ridicules or ignores them. Don't they use the services they wreck or are they above that? What is so frustrating is there is nothing we can do about it. Don't some sarcastic gobshite come on and say that we put them there or other glib words. Yes, we vote folk in, in good faith but we are trying to select from a poor sample who play at being politicians of a great big country but seem to forget that we are just a small population who need a good, basic infrastructure that works, a good communications system both telecommunications wise and physical and also, that we are not a second Singapore, New York or swinging London. We are a small, proud, wonderful jurisdiction that needs a small governing body who have the population's best interests at heart, not an empire building monolith with dreams of grandeur, on a world stage, that is trying to emulate Blackpool leisure gardens and Sunset Boulevard crossed with London's financial district. Of course, my dream will never happen, there are too many vested interests and too much cash being made by the few, whilst preening figures make believe they are important on the world stage. Wait a minute, my tea's ready, that'll do, a good woman, a warm house and a full belly! Maybe I shouldn't expect more. Happy Hop tu naa (spelling ?) 😎

  3. Or better still stop dressing up and playing at Victorian theatre and get to work trying to sort out the mess the island is in ! Maybe people would have more respect for them then .

  4. How are folk getting on with the parking app? I just refuse to use it, a minor protest but why should I line the pockets of an off island company? Bring back the old system, it worked well, it was customer friendly and the substantial profits stayed on island.

  5. Spanish Island residents get 'resident rates' on flights. Many examples not far away - incl Scotland - of resident fares. Let commercial and tourism pay their price, subsidise the residents. MrsNoTailT and I are going on holiday for a week late November. I've just paid £560 return for the pair of us to get to Heathrow. I'm sorry but what part of this is economically sustainable for Island residents?

  6. So if there was an IOM company with a UK parent would you not expect execs from the IOM to visit HQ occasionally (stretched analogy but you get the point)? Yes, it's taxpayer's money being spent, but making contacts in Westminster, making the case for the IOM with everyone we meet has got to be worthwhile, surely. I'd rather stay at home, but this comes under 'part of the job' to me and I think is far more valuable than some of these past CPA trips to far-flung places seemed to be. Oh, and you're welcome to check my bags for Xmas shopping when we get back.

  7. Well, maybe they could just watch a few videos of Question Time to find out how a modern democracy works. I would have thought that visiting somewhere that does not require people to wear the backside of a sheep on their head would be more worthwhile - and leave out the unnecessary and hypocritical nonsense of referring to each other as "honourable", too.

  9. "The trip will focus on increasing understanding of how different parliaments operate and will include meetings on 'topics of mutual interest." In other words, how to fritter away taxpayers money with little to no regard to their constituents.

  10. Do they really need to pay someone £400K to tell them how to save money? Anyone with half a brain could tell them how to do it for free. Case in point, spend £7K on a pointless painting, or take and print a photograph that costs less than a thousandth of the price. It's not brain surgery, so it doesn't require brain surgeon's wages.

  11. It's in the middle of town, next to an industrial estate, late-night garages, KFC and a power station. If that's where you go with your telescope, then you need to be put in a home.

  12. https://www.three.fm/news/isle-of-man-news/tynwald-members-to-visit-westminster/ Handy Christmas shopping trip. It's a shame they're not as keen to "understand" how they could stop wasting the money we give them every month on themselves and actually use it to improve the lives of their increasingly impoverished constituents.

  13. As noted above, they do. Like I said, I'd much rather stay at home and sleep in my own bed, so going to that there London holds zero appeal for me, but if I can network a bit and influence a couple of MPs who think we're near Southampton, it will have been worth the trip. Like I said Gladys, a stretched analogy. But since the UK is responsible for our 'good governance', defence, international relations and a good chunk of our income is predicated on the common purse agreement, I don't think it's an unreasonable one.

  14. Is this going to be another one of those threads where you argue counter logically until you are blue in the face and get banned again? Used car sales down over 400,000 units. https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/consumer/used-car-sales-down-more-400000-buyers-tighten-belts

  16. I despair of this government, in the morning one of the useless shower is promoting the spending of money to save the same amount of money, then tonight they are just spending money on a jolly…….

  18. I find it crazy that Govt is going to create an Auditor General Office which is expected to save £1.2m over three years while costing £400k per year to run!. Why bother….. unless somebody has been lined up to join the gravy train.

  19. He may be correct but he isn’t the solution, neither are most of the MHKs. COMIN and the Civil Servants waste money like there is no end. Tynpotwald will vote through schemes and capital infrastructure projects without proper scrutiny or afterwards monitoring. As I previously mentioned in another post, the new AG salary is £100,000 and has an annual budget of £400,000. Thereby creating another layer of government ………….. without the teeth. More empire building, and political interference. Can we clamp down on Mr Squeakers frivolous entertainment, the painting and other waste. If Tynpotwald want a painting, then let one of IOMGs pet contractors or developers pay for it.

  21. They're on record in a Paul Moulton interview as saying it could be supplied to the island within 2 years from when the go button is pushed. The 10 years and various other claims are just misinformation being peddled by the Greens.

  24. That’s pure supposition. Mortgage rates are rocketing. That house would have been £445K max two years ago. Nobody is going to be mental enough to pay the asking price or near in this climate.

  26. You don't understand, to save money, you must spend money, so to save hundreds of thousands of pounds, you must spend hundreds of thousands of pounds, it's not like they have a save programme. So therefore our politician's must go to West Minster, as it a proven fact nobody spends money like those politicians in West Minster, So they should be able to see how to save Millions. it is not like the UK is in trouble with monetary issues.

  32. We must have loads of money around, I've just heard the masterplan to build the new terminal where the EAM hangars are and move the fire station and relocate all lighter aircraft to the South Side is very much alive and kicking ! Seems we have Reynolds 2 in charge ! Meanwhile the safety of the airport is seriously downgraded by aircraft having to operate at close to or beyond demonstrated crosswind limits, but the administrative closure of 21 / 03 is too difficult to sort out as a matter of priority. Can we not just get someone who wants to run an airport !

  34. According to 3FM, Crogga saying they'd like to begin extracting in the summer of 2023. Thought you said it would take a minimum of 10 years, and possibly 20!!!! My uneducated guess at one year wasn't bad after all.

  35. Why should the bulk of residents who don’t travel subsidize those residents who want to go on holiday?? How would you suggest the subsidy is paid for, perhaps a separate travel tax on everyone to subsidize all the travelers. It seems at the moment everyone wants everything paid for from energy, food, hospitality, travel plus healthcare on demand

  36. well, talking recently to a friend in Orkney, an ex-IOM resident, about the ferry service they get. Islander discounts, friends and family discounts. Aberdeen to Kirkwall is some 130 miles, 3 grades of price, depending on the season, clearly shown. foot passenger fares range between £14.70 and £22.40, vehicles from £58.10 - £79.10, each way.

  37. The CQC report quotes an anonymous employee as describing some doctors’ behaviour as “Feral”. Perhaps further clarification was not possible because of the nature of an anonymous declaration. Whatever the reason, the very obvious, and crucial response: “ Can you explain further ..What is it that you mean by that?” .. Did not follow. Such an invitation would have been an opportunity to listen further and carefully and fully explore any concerns raised. Conversely, it might have helped dismiss the use of the expression as something casually used because it is a derogatory term currently in vogue.

  39. It’s the whole optics as well, the preening, grandstanding and not just with Mr Squeaker but the others who attended. It’s like a shindig, a look at me, the limelight being shone on me - applauded by my peers. We aren’t living in normal times, belts should be tightened, we are all supposed to be in it together - except with with our politicos, we are in it, they are not.

  41. I’m not sure it is though. Quarterbridge has been horrible for at least 15 years. There is no need for it to be that bad and the new estates will make it even worse. The monkeys at the DOI need to sort it out.

  42. We shouldn’t need to get off the Island more. We should not be over developing the Island so it’s as bad as the UK to get about. The run in and out from Braddan is terrible at peak times. That estate will make it even worse it’s obvious. The traffic planning issues need to be sorted before an estate is approved not fudged afterwards.

  43. In which case there must be loads of mugs. An item for sale is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. If it’s still on. The market in six months they will probably drop the price, but that won’t happen. That is exactly the sort of house buyers want and it will sell no problem at all. If it doesn’t then the price will drop. That’s how a market works. Have you seen the price of used cars lately? You would have to be a mug to buy a two year old car for pretty much what it cost when it was new, but that is what is happening. People are selling five year old cars for more than they paid for them three years ago

  44. With mortgage rates at 5% and rising. Nobody is going to pay £620K to live in a tiny overlooked house like that in Peel which has had a nasty budget kitchen lobbed into it to save costs.

  47. I heard yesterday that there are 77 members of staff in the AG's department now , and are the biggest legal practice in the isle of Man, a lot of this work was previously put out to the local advocates , such as planning enquiries and government applications and appeals , Government , has become the islands biggest growth industry , how much longer can we afford to keep all these people ,
