  1. I have got to say the manx born drivers are absoloutly useless as soon as there is the slightest sign of snow. Its almost funny to watch hundreds of people who have never left the island trying to negotiate 1/4 of an inch of snow and taking 30 mins to get from onchan to douglas. Still on the plus side at least when it snows over here the repair garages make a few quid.. Manx born + tiny bit of snow = boom!!!!!!

I'm Manx-born, and spent 6 harsh winters driving in Poland without incident in my Manx registered car.

Do you think I was actually adopted from a twattish comeover like yourself?

    Boat + Morning + you = joy!!!!

  2. Creme Egg and the whole Cadbury range: vile low quality rubbish. Wouldn't spend a penny on that stuff, ever - low quality, disgusting, and not worthy of being even remotely associated with "chocolate".

Milka and Lindt - because your taste buds are worth it!

Next time you're in tesco's - buy one of these

    and one of these

and compare them - there's simply no contest. Cadbury's the cheapest, nastiest "chocolate" you can buy (that's if you're silly enoug to pay money for that stuff). Lindt is - well, not even on the same planet - pure chocolate perfection, absolute indulgence, ultimate chocolate genius. Yes, it costs twice as much, but what price is chocolate happiness?

£2.05 if you ask me :)

    Nah...

    this is the daddy:

  3. TnF = Best Game Ever

Anyone playing for the HJ bonus was a good player - still play?

Ignore the shite in the pic :P

Haven't played it in about 20 years. Would play it on Mame, but I don't think the laptop keyboard would last very long!

Great pic of the cabinet! Where did that originally live? I was more adept at the joysticked ones in the 'Cressie' :D

  4. Track and Field was my favourite. Anyone else remember throwing the javelin at 80 degrees and getting a duck & an extra 1000 points? And then the high jump where if you failed your first two jumps and then went on the qualify a mole popped out and gave you another 1000 points.

Another 'easter egg' was on Pacland where if you timed your jump at 'break time' to perfection, you got an extra 7650(?) points!

    Oh, and another favourite. SuperPunchOut!!

    In the red corner....Bald Bull!

What a wasted, but thoroughly enjoyable youth :D

  6. I was having a gander at Engadget this morning, and read that Amazon.co.uk were selling the new Sony Vaio P netbooks at a massively reduced advance discount of just 300 quid.

    linky-linky

So, I pegged it over to Amazon, signed in and swooped. About 5 mins later the offer stopped. However, my Amazon account clearly shows that I've got one on order for 300 notes.

What do you think? Will they use their T&C to wriggle out of it? From their website:

Despite our efforts, a small number of the millions of products in our catalogue are mispriced. Rest assured, however, that we verify prices as part of our dispatch procedures. If a product's correct price is lower than our stated price, we charge the lower amount and send you the product. If a product's correct price is higher than our stated price, we will, at our discretion, either contact you for instructions before dispatch or cancel your order and notify you of such cancellation.

Anyone got any experience of Amazon mis-pricing?

  7. from the Guardian:

Ireland tonight nationalised the troubled Anglo Irish Bank with a promise to safeguard its €100bn deposit base.

The Guardian understands that the Irish government took the unprecedented measure because of fears that the bank's collapse would have had a major negative impact on the republic's wider economy. Had the bank gone out of business a number of sectors of the economy would have been under threat particularly health insurance, sources said in Dublin.

At a hastily convened press conference this evening in Government Buildings, Dublin, Irish finance minister Brian Lenihan confirmed the bank would taken into public ownership.

In a statement released in advance of Lenihan's announcement, the Republic's department of finance said: "Anglo Irish Bank is a major financial institution whose viability is of systemic importance to Ireland. Anglo has a balance sheet of some €100bn with a substantial deposit base which the state is determined to safeguard. The government has made clear that it will ensure its continued viability. Anglo Irish Bank will continue to trade normally as a going concern, with appropriate government support as necessary. All Anglo employees remain employed by the company."

Lenihan later said the funding position of the bank had weakened and that the recent admission that former chairman Sean FitzPatrick had loans of more than €87m taken off the bank's books over an eight-year period, had caused "serious reputational damage" to the bank at a time when overall market sentiment towards it was negative.

He said the Irish government believed that the recapitalisation "is not now the appropriate and effective means to secure its continued viability".

"The Government believes that the prospects for the institution are solidly underpinned in the new structure, with the benefit of state ownership and a renewed management and board. In the current circumstances the state is the only available potential owner," said Mr Lenihan.

The recently appointed chairman of the board, Donal O'Connor, is to stay on as chairman of Anglo Irish Bank. Mr Lenihan said the bank would "be managed on an arms length basis as a commercial entity" and that shareholders rights would be respected.

"All customers of Anglo Irish Bank can be assured that the full amount of their deposits and savings are further safeguarded by this action. They can also be assured that they can and should continue transacting with Anglo as normal and there is no need for customers to take any steps as a result of this announcement. Anglo Irish Bank will communicate directly with all customers in the coming days," said Mr Lenihan.

The government has prepared legislation to put its decision into effect and this will be presented to the two houses of the Irish parliament this coming Tuesday.

The Irish stock exchange and the UK Listing Authority are expected to announce that Anglo-Irish shares will be suspended from listing on the stock exchanges before markets open in the morning.

Lenihan added that the Irish government remained "fully committed" to re-capitalising two other banks that remained privately owned, the Allied Irish Bank and the Bank of Ireland.

In relation to the Anglo Irish Bank Lenihan stressed that it will continue to operate commercially as normal for depositors and creditors alike.

  9. Right, I was over in the US in the summer, and stupidly bought a MacBook, taking advantage of the then 2:1 exchange rate. I've got used to just about all of its ways, and quite like most of them. I also enjoy the stability, lack of nasties & the two finger scrolling is also rather nice.

However, there is one thing that I really miss from Windows/KDE/Gnome: A decent taskbar. Like many folk, I like to have several things running at the same time & be able to switch. The problem with Mac OS X is that it is all cluttered into a small section of the task bar with no information unless you hover the mouse over them.

Any advice? I've tried Googling it, but just get a load of results of folk foolishly wanting their Windows desktops to look like a Mac! Ideally I'd like a classic Windows taskbar. Simple, but effective.
