  1. Got to say I'm siding with Dave here. Been through Liverpool many times, and have found them no better or worse than anywhere else. Go through scanner, take some items off, occassionally get searched, etc. All seems the same, you know you'll have to do it, so just do it. The more fuss you make, the more chance there is that they'll start being arsey as well.
  2. Not keeping up with this site like I used to, just found out this ews today. Dandara don;t own the course (see earlier in this thread) so they won't be touching anything to do with the golf. Good to see that the course will be getting some much needed investment after the decline of the F-L years. I also read he was in financial difficulty, does he still own the hotel*casino?

See I've always thought that to win a personality competition you would have needed a personality to enter. Eddie the Eagle was a personality and he was shit. That pointless plank Mansell was never a personality. Out and out racer no denying that ever. Guy Martin is one that raises the profiles of what ever sport due to his personality. I still can't get over AP McCoy winning it last year. What an ambassador he isn't! Cavendish won this (though the cynic in me is looking towards the 2012 Olympics) for raising the profile of the sport through having a bit of nounce about him. Well done I say, Manx or not! THE AWARD HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PERSONALITY, every year someone trots out this nonsensical line.

Please for the love of god, everyone gets it, we got it years ago, you don't understand patriotism. I don't understand fudge packing, but I don't ram that down everyone's throat, in fact I'm more than partial to the odd sweet, just not interested in how they left the factory. Each to their own.

Ok, my bad, yes he shouldn't NEED to mention the island, but what the bloody hell is so wrong with it? LDV in being a drama queen shocker.

I know what it is that makes them proud. I don't agree with the thinking behind and don't think they are justified in being proud. It's seem childish. I don't know Mark Cavendish, I'm not related to him, and I'm a comeover. Having said that, I'm delighted that he's won, even though by LDV's criteria there's no automatic reason that I should be. The Isle of Man is now my home, and anything that can raise its profile in a positive way on the international stage is for me something to be celebrated. What is there to moan about, seriously? LDV standard procedure. What in some circles would be known as a "drainer"

It's never been a "personality" award, it's always been misnamed this way, and always been as reward for what the public see as the best performance(s) of the year. As for him actually having a personality, seems to have more than most, not that it is in any way relevant to the award.

Not seen it, but that's a bit harsh. Although he shouldn't need to mention the Island. It all about his achievement. Not his origins. Think you'll find no-one agrees with that, though if you were ever in a similar situation I'm pretty sure everyone would be glad that you won't mention where you're from.

Proud of him or proud of yourself for just being Manx? If the former, are you his Mother? If the latter, I don't understand it in the least. Yes yes, we've all heard about your compelete and utter lack of patriotism, something that a huge majority of the world's population have about their own particular country. So perhaps, instead of regurgitating this idioticly boring and uneducated line ad infinitum, perhaps maybe you should learn a little bit about what it is that makes people so proud of their heritage and ancestry. As you say, you don't understand it, so please stop commenting on it. This is a 'well done Cav' thread, not a 'show your ignorance' thread.

^^^Actually Cav complained about how the stages were set up as Slim says, which with all the tough finishes on flat stages were not ideal for him, and much more to the liking of riders like Gilbert and Hushovd. It is pretty clear to anyone who follows the sport that it is now much easier for a sprinter to win green, becasue of the reduction in intermediates, and increase in points for those that there still are, plus the other changes to the points. Again as Slim says, Cav's quotes make no sense, because he has won more stages in the past yet not won green. Great sportsman though he is, he does have a tendency to whinge about anything that he sees may be against him, see last year's expoulsion of Renshaw for instance. So take his comments here, which fly in the face of all evidence, with a pinch of salt.
  13. Don't see how, it would just make them question your intelligence if you were that clueless.
  14. Finally, a sensible post from your good self......... I was going to point out this and that but hey who cares..One final point though if the SNP do rule - good job Hadrians Wall is still there and it can be used in reverse !! Good god you really are a buffoon. That's it...A former resident of Farmhill now living in Aberdeen !! Calling me a buffoon !! Thank god you made a profit and could afford to live like a Lord in .....Aberdeen... Good grief, does your ignorance know no bounds? Have you any idea at all about anything? Have you seen the price of property up here? Forgetting the respective property prices for a moment (bizzare tangent anyway), why would living in Aberdeen & Farmhill at various times mark me as a buffoon, somehow moreso than your ridiculous dribblings have previously, and once again, so abley demonstrated by your above post?

  16. While it's a long time since I lived in Farmhill, this for sure used to be the case. The worst pub food I eevr came across, but it was handy, so you went. Glad it's improved.

  18. Why would where I live have any bearing on the matter? We live where we work, at least most of us do. And like the rest of your suppositions in this thread, you are once again miles off the mark. I left the island in 2004, and now live back in Aberdeen, Salmond's constituency in fact, and you'll find that he is a very well thought of politician, but then that just further shows how completely out of touch your opinions are. As for Sheridan, he's not one for independence, not a nationalist in any form, so what is your point there? I fail to see any relevance whatsoever? Chaytor is now also in prison, and he was part of the last UK government, Lord Taylor, a Tory lest you forget, is also now in jail over expenses, that would be someone connected to the current UK government. So clearly, by your logic, we'd be better off out of the union, as criminality seems to be your latest spurious argument for the staus quo, we've yet to see an SNP MP/MSP sent to prison, or indeed questioned by police over financial, or any other, irregularities. So the SNP it is then, am I right?
  19. What are you basing this nonsense on? The Republic Of Ireland is by general consent a "basket case economy" Famous for producing corrupt politicians it now faces years of recession. Erm yes, that covers Ireland. My question was, what are you basing your groundless asertions on Scotland making Ireland pale by comparison on? How about a new parliament building estimated cost £10 million final cost £414 million !! Not much corruption there and who paid for it !! I think you may have a misunderstanding of what the word "corruption" means. Does it mean "paid for by the English?" Paid for by the English what? Taxpayer.... Realy? So somewhere there's a seperation between what residents in England (some of whom will be Scottish, and many other nationalities btw) pay to the exchequer, and what residents of Scotland (some of whom will be English btw) pay to the exchequer. And then when it comes to redistributing tax back into the sytem, Scotland only receives English taxation? So where the fuck has all the Scottish taxpayers money gone then? Sounds like one helluva corrupt system to me? No wonder independence is on the way. Those that are in work and contribute have paid into the national fund. The £8 billion annual subsidy has come from the rest of the UK...And please I thought that the Sweaties with free (subsidised) University Education could at least learn to spell !! And yes I can agree ....hopefully independence should be on the way then we can have piigss (Portugal Italy Ireland Greece Spain and Scotland) Promotion at last !! You really are in the Premier League and it is no longer a two horse race... LOL, you said "Sweaties", oh how we laughed. I presume now that your argument has descended to the level of correcting of spelling, rather than trying to justify your ridiculous claims of impending corruption, that you have nothing to give on this matter anymore? I further presume when refering to my spelling, that you mean my typos of "Realy" & "Sytem". Well we all make those, and to be honest I never spell check forum postings anywhere, I just type then hit reply, it's a forum, no-one really cares, except pedantic little arses; but as we're on the subject, your failure to use commas, and your superfluous additional full stops and exclamation marks lend me to thinking the learning of written English somewhat passed you by? Would that be correct, and if so, what would it have to do with this topic anyway?

  25. Couldn't be more wrong. London gets more per head from the public purse than any other area of the UK
