  1. I see the Honda TT legends documentary is to be shown on ITV4 again tonight with the focus on last year's TT races. Having watched the previous programmes I noted how the riders and bikes were branded with the Three legs symbol plus the letters TT. Which made me think did they need permission to use them and if so how much would they have been charged?

But then I got to thinking, the likelihood is that the team is actually funded by Isle of Man taxpayers in some sort of branding exercise

Anyone know if this is true?

  2. 5ft Bedmaster double mattress offering medium firmness feel. Using a 13.5 gauge open coil spring system, and 3 layers of quality fabric fillings for extra comfort. The mattress is a generous 17cms in depth and is covered in a high loft deep quilt Belgian damask cover giving a quality, up market look and feel. The open coil spring system is reinforced with a 9 guage steel rod frame offering stability and support across the entire mattress surface. The side wall is also quilted for additional comfort.

  3. Apols if someone has already mentioned it but why does MR need to be on the top of Douglas Head? That location must be worth millions with its views over the Bay.They could easily relocate to a property in Douglas and get some much needed money in the Govt coffers at the same time.

Quite agree, MR should be relocated to a commercial unit in a business park.

The building should be sold on. It would make a great casino, night club and restaurant....

Why stop there? If we moved Tynwald and the Legislative Building functions to a warehouse in Jurby, we could sell off the Wedding Cake and attached buildings for loads of cash.

In fact, all government departments, statutory boards etc should be relocated to units on business parks and all government office space should be sold off.

Next, the schools. Do we need so many? Let's just have learning sheds with one teacher for each class, then we could sell of the schools.

Why stop there? Because it's a building on a headland worth a VAST amount of money. It doesn't have the historical importance of the Wedding Cake etc ... And if it makes sound financial business sense then flog off the properties in Douglas and get an all-new purpose built location in an out-of-town business park with plenty of parking

Who heard of anyone who wears mink while they're (allegedly) trying to scrape two ha'pennys together to buy a tin of beans

  5. I'm not sure whether it's been reported but I'm told that Duke will not be distributing the TT3D film when it comes out on DVD shortly. I know they applied to acquire the rigts to do so (or whatever the technical term is) but the business has been given to a UK firm.

  6. Hello again everybody. We're just coming to the end of season 10 which finishes in about three weeks. Then a break of about a fortnight then the first round of the League Cup will kick off season eleven.

We're still going strong but we have a few vacancies in the First, Second and Third Divisions and now would be a great time to take over a club and prepare for the forthcoming campaign. Nothing's changed from the top post in this thread in terms of how to join etc.

So having not recruited new blood for the Island's Top League (there are a few others) I thought it would be time to invite you all to our fun league. It doesn't take up much time, it's free and as I've said before, if you enjoy football management games on PC, PS3 etc then this is right up your street.

If you sign up and have any questions then please feel free to get in touch. We have a number of MFers currently taking part and the banter is always good

    look forward to seeing you!

  8. Many years ago almost ALL racing was on circuits such as the TT course. However many drivers/riders were getting killed and the universal attitude was enough is enough. Since then (lates 60s/early 70s) all the road racing circuits have either gone or improved dramatically toan extent where fatalities are now almost nil

Except the Isle of Man which seems to be stuck in the dark ages ....

One day we (or our children) will look back on these days and think why did we let this madness happen for so long when the world moved on many decades earlier

That is just not true. I notice you haven't named a circuit from the late 60's/early 70's or before that is comparable to the TT course. That is because there aren't any.

Also the popularity of road racing is increasing not decreasing with new events, new riders and teams and continued and increased interest from major manufacturers.

It is very easy to accuse the IOM of being stuck in the dark ages, I have heard the same argument used at our allowing of greenlaning. The simple fact is though it is not true.

I can ..............Clermont Ferrand, Montjuich, Eifelrennen, Clady, Assen, Le Mans, Nurburgring, Spa, Geneva, Sachsenring, Albi, Charade ...how many more would you like me to name. All used at World championship level at some point and either altered to be made safer or no longer exist due to fatalities.

As for increased interest from major manufacturers can you name some please? Where is the interest from the MAJOR advertisers/sponsors ....none because they don't want to be associated with death in sport

Sorry Monkey Boy but on this you're talking through your backside

Not one of those tracks could be compared with the IOM TT and as for Major Sponsors open you eyes.

The Japanese Government announced last year that it was to develop its own TT type road track, Canada is also looking into the possibilities of a new road Track, Poland have identified a new Road track and is waiting for its licence. Belgium will also have a new road track next year to replace the old track at Ostend. Hengilo in Holland has been running for years and is to have a new paddock/Pitt area built this year. Chimay Belgiums Road track still being used, Schlieze Germany, Frohburge Germany, Terlioco and Horice Czech Republic all public road track, and I could name many more than get full enytries for every meeting.

MaxPower the insurance for thids years TT is £550 per rider per race.

How many riders have been killed on these tracks you mention? Major sponsors? My eyes are open! As for Jap manufacturers at the TT, they are only here because teams PAY the factories to be here. The days of teh factories being at teh TT because they chose to have long gone. They don't even put anything into Moto2 in the world championship. It's all MotoGP these days

  9. As for the Grand National, changes can be made and probably will i.e. smaller fences etc

The TT is not the same as changes can't/won't be made so no comparison between the two

Despite the huge protestations every year, simple and inexpensive changes have not been made to the Aintree course which may have prevented the 38 deaths there since 1999? Many safety changes have been made to the TT course as discussed earlier in this thread.

Yes changes may have been made to the TT circuit but people are still dying. You can't make the TT any safer than it already is but with the National they can. As I said they can reduce the height of the jumps ensuring ensuring NO fatalities. And it will happen. That's a huge television event watched by millions in the UK. Which the TT is not and therefore comes under gretaer scrutiny.

As for major investors at the TT, okay Monster but they are throwing money at anything that moves at present, including a lot of well less known events and it will be interesting to see if they stay. You can't get bigger than Dainese really and I think a lot of that has been to do with Guy Martin more than anything else. They were responsible for bring Rossi etc to the TT, don't let anyone else fool you otherwise by insisting they were responsible. However it's to the TT's credit that Dainese have stayed. Arai have been involved for years but they are one of many helmet manufacturers as Dainese are when it comes to clothing. Where are all the rest, why aren't they fighting one another to get involved with this 'unique' sporting occasion. If the TT is really an important player in the world of motorsport then it would be awash with all the big names.

As for the manufacturers what have they really done of late to support the TT. A tent at the Grandstand?

They're certainly not backing the race teams.

  11. If Manx Radio was a horse then it would have been shot a long time ago

Ten years ago MR got along with 250k a year from the Govt ...that then shot up to 750k!!! Then came the increase to almost a million

And what did the staff at MR do? Gave themselves all a HUGE increase in wages!

Which they're still on today. Despite the cuts .....
