  1. Sorry I wasn't very clear that was exactly the point I was trying to make. There is a tendency to think shopping in the UK/ online is an all round excellent experience when in reality customers prob experience exactly the same positive and negatives as they do on the IOM . When I say there "may" be some truth all I was meaning was that there might be or there might not be I have no idea but assessing customer service on the IOM the sat before Christmas and then deciding the IOM doesn't stack up to the UK / online experience and then deciding not to shop locally again isn't really fair.
  2. I have to say having gone down town yesterday; what retailers? I'm regretting now leaving my shopping too late to do it online but as I never shop I hadn't really noticed what a piss poor bunch of rubbishy shops we are now left with in Douglas. The whole experience was soul destroying. I'll be buying everything online next year as it saves me walking through a ghost town trying to find the odd nugget that someone might be bothered selling me. Unfortunately it is very difficult for independent retailers to maintain a very high stock level and extensive range right up to Christmas. This will be true for both local retailers and those in the UKs biggest towns and cities and will also be true to a lesser extent (due to their structure) to for large chain stores and online stores. Predictions relating to what will be popular and what will not can never be precise - again this applies across the board. Where customer service is concerned there may be an argument that it is not up to the high standards set in the UK on the Isle of Man, however, clearly some people prefer more attention and others prefer less and it is difficult to strike the correct balance all the times, the Sat before Christmas may not be the best day to judge.
