You get most of your Vitamin D intake from sunlight which makes it even more bizarre that the best way of dealing with covid is apparently to lock people up in their own houses with little sunlight which further restricts their Vitamin D intake.

You get most of your covid from being out of your own house and mixing with other people.

You can also catch covid in one trip out, you cannot get your yearly Vit D dose in one trip out, nor in 3 weeks worth of trips out.

You can also still go out for your daily Vit D during lockdown regardless.

There is nothing bizarre about it.

Re Vit D , having struggled with M.E for alot of years had many convo's with my GP and practice nurse and they have always said we should all take it as most have a lack of it in our system . Also apparently as a generalisation they dont test for it when getting blood tests apparently due to the lack of it in so many. I know theres a few Doctors in this forum and perhaps they have a input.

I had a Vit D test in the recent past, the doctor's comment was "It's a bit low and worth supplementing, but 50% of island inhabitants probably have a lower level today."

    So there you are.

Wow! Yes I know him too. And I knew the biker he killed.

    Well there you go.

I used to campaign for no speed limits and know for a fact that I was successful where it mattered.

I sometimes wish I had not bothered. I just don't trust some of these kids on the road. Yes I was young once but they were very different days on the road.

Lockdown speed limit. From 4pm/midnight tomorrow I reckon.

A deeply sad incident. Almost as sad is the fact it's had no impact whatsoever on his perception of his own ability. I must admit I'd be much happier when out on my bike if his ban had been a lifetime one.

I disagree with speed limits in the main, though some are very obviously needed. An all-island 40 during lockdown wouldn't bother me, except that I think it's a bit pointless.

Have been looking into the use of Vitamin D to enhance the immune system. Apparently it is highly recommended and seem to have a significant impact.

Does anyone have any personal experience of this or is it just another false dawn ?

Yes, lots of evidence to back this up. Has been for quite some time too! Everyone on the island should be taking Vit D through the winter. And probably summer, our summers are often a bit crap.

Remember the biker killed by a skill-less arrogant twat in a fast car on the corner just up the road at Creg Ny Baa?

I do. He's one of the people liking comments defending the ST driver.

Don't reckon much to his opinion on the safety of overtakes a few hundred yards from the Creg.

Did you see the video Amadeus put up of the twat 'pushing on' on the run down from the Creg? All island speed limit incoming...

To be fair, looks like about 2.5-3seconds between the Focus crossing back to the left side of the road and the oncoming traffic arriving where the Focus had been on the right side of the road. It's not a great overtake, but the camera angle is distorting the danger somewhat.

I'd have felt a bit of a twat had it been me doing that overtake, but it wasn't outright dangerous.

You seem to be another of the relentlessly angry people on this forum who seem to take themselves and what they say far too seriously.

Weird thing for the person throwing a shit-fit any time someone reports the day's results in a thread about the pandemic to say.

I totally agree just like in Norway....BUT......how do you charge the electric road users?

    With a plug. Har har.

Should we charge them? If we're trying to incentivise certain behaviours, like driving electric vehicles, I'm OK with them not being taxed.

I thought it would better to tax cars on engine size.

    No thank you

maybe road tax should be based on BHP

It would make much more sense for Britain including the IOM in concert to scrap vehicle tax completely and to make back the lost revenue by increasing fuel duty.

This makes the most sense to me. It also gets rid of an entire pointless bit of bureaucracy.

Positivity going up isn't a good thing. However HQ wants to spin it.

Whilst we are seeing more tests, and more cases as a result, the WHO reckons 5% positivity is about the threshold for whether an outbreak is under control .

Hopefully, things will start to level off again as we feel the reduction in transmission that lockdown brings.

To be fair, effective track and trace does put up positivity rates. But yes, agreed it's a bad thing.

Capacity was circa 800 wasn’t it? , how many tests are they leaving on standby?

Dunno, but looks like only about 400 tests in last 24h. 1 in 6 (ish) positive. It was (approx) 1 in 10 last major outbreak.

And the best way to protect these vulnerable obese people apparently is to lock them inside their houses, limit further their exercise, and put them in a mental state where many will resort to over drinking alcohol or over eating to cope. It makes a so much sense!

We had free reign to go and do anything for 7months last summer. 3-6weeks now is not going to be a meaningful time period for anyone to lose a significant amount of weight.

More cheer. This is a forum that just keeps on giving. Why are half of you still alive if the prognoses is so thoroughly negative? I’d have probably jumped off a cliff by now if I believed everything was just so doom laden.

You come into a thread about a pandemic, during a particularly dodgy looking outbreak, expecting some cheer? Might I suggest you try almost anywhere else?

It's 100% going to be longer than 21 days already. I'd wager 6 weeks at least.

Yeah, job's fucked. You can't run a default position of everyone out in pubs, hugging, no distancing, no masks etc and then also drag your feet when the situation changes. All you do is create a load of super spreaders.

Not talking about the crews, I am referring to people going over and coming back from the UK mainland at this moment I think all travel should be cancelled until this has been sort otherwise it will just continue to go on and on.

Where's the risk? If people return and self-isolate there is no problem with travel.
