  1. From what i've seen on the iomtoday website ....it was just a bunch of schoolkids who tried to outscream each other You have to wonder how much this cost and does anyone really care? Judging by the poor turn-out ......i.e. no-one except school children/politicans ..the answer would appear to be no

    Is This Illegal?

who is hung up? ...I'm just asking 'is it illegal'? ..... if not then if I get pulled over by the police I can use this piece of film to back up my actions (if I ever did get pulled up by the police for pulling a wheelie)
  4. you have to whizz to halfway through .... is that 'dangerous driving/ridng'? 1 min 32 to be precise
  5. I'm not sure it's that much of a red herring. Were MR seen to provide a valuable service I think giving them the money coming from the BBC would be more justifiable. It would still be controversial, but the argument that it's going into a service like the one we paid into in the first place would carry more weight. Interesting way to begin. It's not showbiz, it's journalism. Secondly, you're shifting the goalposts. If you pay attention, a lot of the complaints and criticisms of MR have nothing whatsoever to do with the back house operations or grunt work; it's the people at the front end and top of the chain and how they execute their duties and perform their roles. It's pretty irrelevent why he said what he said and especially irrelevant verging on a smear to go into what he's said on other matters and speculation on why he was voted out. This part of your response goes someway to demonstrating exactly what's wrong with Manx Radio and doesn't make you look particularly good. Criticism comes your way, and you cast aspersions: Oh he's got a grudge, and he's a right bastard to boot. People on here criticise MR, but then they're just a bunch of ignorant nutters on the local forum. Former employers saying bad things about MR? Well they can't possibly be reliable and must be telling a pack of lies. Your entire defence is, rather than meeting or engaging in specific points, centred on vague notions of being value for money, telling people how they should feel, and stating blithely the ignorance or bias of anyone who has the temerity to complain or criticize. I'm sorry Stu, but to play you at your own game: it's telling that your background is PR and marketing, rather than journalism. Perhaps there would be a lot more in the way of constructive criticism if anyone thought it would do the damndest bit of good. But when we meet petulance and the kind of PR stonewalling that's almost your trademark on this matter, it's not hard to see why people get frustrated and decide to have a pop instead. ...and if all else fails, come with a hypothetical situation in which things are apparently much worse. As far as I'm concerned, given the quality of analysis, interviews and commentary available on MR, I'd prefer (and have said as much previously) 'another computerised jukebox' to seeing MR continue masquerading as a national broadcaster. Seconded - vinnieK's comments
  6. It may attract some money but in the scheme of things it is relativly small, as the majority of spend is to off Island owned companies e.g ferry and airlines. Off Island companies have to pay a hefty fee The public pay no entry fee to watch and many stay on the cheap camping or in homestay and of those camping many just bring their provisions with them or buy down at Tescos. The TT does not in the main attract many affluent high spenders to the Island in my opinion You forget about the fuel used a competitor uses 9/10lts per lap, a set of tyre ever2 laps(350 per pair). they also use fuel doing many laps of the van. They will use a lot of local supplies as well There is no proof fullstop. Positive or negative. I wonder why that is? However I own a business in the IoM and I can say that without doubt it affects my business negativly. For one thing I have to close for senior TT race day! Senoir race day is a Bank Holiday like any other Bank Holiday, do you close for Tynwald Day etc. One day the IoM might admit what it costs them to put on the TT and I would very much doubt that that they are close to breaking even. Ultimatly in cash terms the TT benefits the travel firms, the hospitality industry be in pubs, hotels & restaurants and clubs that provide camping or people that provide homestay. TT give the small hotels a chance to survive A privateer will spend on average £5k for his/her stay on the IOM It actually does not work out like that. It does for me with the kids being off school, can pick up a nice holiday end of May Keep up. It is freight that does that. And if it was true it would kill your previous argument about holidays as the costs to get off the Island shoot up. Freight does take care of a lot of it but the TT takes a lot in too Also Locals that get away for TT are spending too, new holiday cloths etc , flights or boat away, every little helps. One day the Finance industry might just up sticks leaving many hoping the TT goes ahead for a bit of cash So you're saying that if it wasn't for the TT then local people wouldn't go on holiday?
  7. Yep, the battle for democracy and free speech in brutal, oppressive regimes and Manx Radio costing us a few pennies a year each so it can broadcast opera, jazz and brass bands to 37 listeners - exactly the same things. whoa! sense of humour by-pass there censorship!
  8. well ...after all the hype ....i was bored sh*tless. I think I'd prefer to see him stick to motorbike racing
  9. Seeing as the work on Richomond Hill has just been completed, how come there's standing water at the bottom when there's a big downpour?
  10. But would they still agree to funding if you took away the Keys broadcasts?
  11. But its broadcast live? They aren't listening to the radio whilst in the chamber. Is it not repeated that evening?
  12. The way I understand it is that they (the Govt) fund MR so MR is 'obliged' to broadcast Keys/Tynwald etc .... the politicians just love hearing the sounds of their own voices. If MR wasn't subsidised would MR be broadcasting Tynwald/Keys live .....I don't think so. Would advertisers want ads in their ....no. Plus ...'before we move onto item 8 we will pause for a second but we'll be right back after these messages' ....can't see that happening either. That is the reason MR is subsidised
  13. I would have thought the media had connections with the Airport and what is going on down there?
  14. Unless there was something in the Manx Independent (which I've not read) but no mention on any of the local news websites or radio stations about the job redundancies at Ronaldsway Airport in the last few days. A number of ground staff have been told their jobs are going (if not already gone). Maybe MR could have enquired about that while they had their reporter down there
  15. The Spanish took our tourist dollar remember ..are they never satisfied?
  16. Anyone use the service? Was there anyone on-board?
  17. I belive the 2355 service will stop five nminutes after its departed whereupon teh drivr and passenegers will gather for an impromptu 'auld langs syne' before carrying on its merry way

    Bus Services

While the public transport authorities should bve applauded for running late bus services on New Year's Eve, I would've thought anyone staying out late would choose to be in teh company of friends or family at the stroke of midnight and not actually either on a bus or waiting for one ......surely a later departure of 30 to 60 minutes would see fuller buses
