  1. Plus the legislation will be differently titled and dated. e.g. If a UK contract said 'in accordance with X Employment law dated 01/02/1934' it wouldn't be the same.

So has anyone got any info on the 'bomb'? Most of the ordinance that turns up here is washed up, no doubt from Beauforts Dyke. Seeing as this is nowhere near the beach, first assumption would be that it was dropped during WW2 (either in error, or lightening the load). I don't believe the Island was actively targeted during the war. Although I would have thought that the local farmer back in the 1940s would probably have noticed a crater in his field! However, the Luftwaffe did kill a frog with a bomb down near Cregneash in 1940. Other possibility, was it about to end up in
  4. Sorry, what? You don't 'believe' in herd immunity? The thing with science is, that it doesn't really care about your beliefs, it relies upon facts and evidence.
  5. Or be allowed to grow your own. Say you're allowed a few plants for personal use. That would probably keep most stoners 'in stock' so to speak. If you think about it, it is crazy that if I grew a few plants for my own personal use, not selling any, not contributing in any form to the underground world of drug dealing and all that entails; I could end up with a criminal record! Surely the main rationale for laws are to protect others from harm. What harm would I be doing to anyone?
  6. You can watch the first 3 episodes on Youtube now. I've thought they've been pretty good so far. A few jokes fall flat, but mostly funny. No one, apart from Trump has really been savaged in my opinion.
  7. https://manx-paragliding-supplies.business.site/?utm_source=gmb&utm_medium=referral He does tandem trips. Not sure if still on Google Maps, but you used to be able to see a couple of paragliders up near the top of Snaefell.
  8. Cheif Cuntstable God, sorry for my shabby spelling. It's Chief
  9. Exactly. We could have been at the cutting edge on this, but the hysterical and uneducated views of too many people (mainly politicians) in relation to cannabis will stall any attempt to have a more forward looking and open policy on this. Nothing will be done here unless the UK does it and then, we'll probably be way behind. It genuinely makes me despair. Today the Cheif Cuntstable was riling against drugs and organised crime being the biggest threat to the Island. I'd hazard a guess that around 50% of the business interests and cash are associated with weed.
  10. Suppose it's better than the Govt money-laundering.... I recall a case recently where an otherwise unemployed drug dealer was given a (not insubstantial) fine, which was paid straightaway. I wonder how he paid that? Or if the Govt undertook a source of funds check!
  11. Aha, twas the wife as I thought... shame she screwed it up for him.
  12. LOL - If anyone saw 'What we do in the Shadows', he definitely has a vibe of Guillermo. I think he did a fair job and the award is warranted. If you ignore the alleged embezellment bit (I can't remember, was that actually proved - I think it was his wife really) RC was a pretty good CM. I think with his Pharmacy background, he probably would have been REALLY good CM in the current situation.
  13. Covid will be coming back. Its dillusional to think it won't. The thing with 'bubbles' is they always burst.
  14. Same for a few international or UK controlled businesses. Kind of understandably they are not making individual country decisions and will just open everything worldwide back up at the same time (or not). Mrs Phantom works for an American owned company. She's going to be WFH until at least the first quarter of 2021.
  15. There are a few internet and similar fulfillment businesses over here, but realistically they are selling low bulk/high cost items. Unfortunately there is an additional sea to cross so the comparative costs are realistically always going to be a bit higher. If you want to sell stuff as an internet business, you'll just have to sell more expensive (or smaller) stuff.
  16. Standard operating procedure for pretty much all banks nowadays. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-54463211 Anyone tried to open a bank account recently? It literally takes months even for a personal account and good luck with opening a business account!
  17. Possibly. When I came into the harbour last night there was a rainbowy slick on the water flowing out. Will be lovely for Peel's new dolphin residents. Did you know 'Peel' is actually Afrikaans for penis? Seriously
  18. Yeah several sunken boats a fuel leaking out into the bay. Awesome
  19. Well one obvious answer is to de-crimalise it all! Everyone can get hold of whatever they want whenever they want it even with it being illegal. So whats the point? I don't think anyone who wants drugs would decide not to because its illegal. Infact it probably adds to the cool factor, because it is illegal and you're being rebellious. If it was legalised then there would be no need for criminals to bring it in. Also tax it etc etc. Alcohol and Tobacco are far worse and interestingly this new generation seem to have less of an interest in both.
  20. You'll see that I said 'usually'. That's also what gun dogs are for. They are still probably killed faster than being played with by my machiavellian cats.
  21. To be honest, I've got nothing against hunting for food infact I'm quite pro-hunting. I think that anyone who eats meat and hasn't killed is a bit of a hypocrite. Arguably the animal has had a better life and usually it is killed quicker more humanely than in many slaughter houses. Hunting for trophies however is a different matter. Although, this is frankly ridiculous as we've got plenty of other stuff to shoot and frankly for Mr Boot, we've got more pressing matters to deal with at the moment!
  22. Yeah he's been here at least 10 years I think. I wasn't being at all derogatory on the 'manx' statement, was just interested in the residency/election rules.
  23. I think Josem would be pretty good actually. Although, is he manx enough yet? In all seriousness, he's a pretty recent immigrant - does he need a certain time here/immigration status? Along the lines of Arnie - as he's not American born, he can't run for president, but could be a governor.
  24. So the famous Jaffa cake VAT case... I love this. The judgement didn't really have anything to do with chocolate. It was based on the fact that standard meal food (for want of a better description) doesn't have VAT on it. So anything you would normally eat for breakfast/lunch/dinner. This INCLUDES cake (and therefore chocolate cake), as it is dessert and therefore part of an actual meal. However, snacks or luxury food do have VAT. Biscuits aren't part of a meal and therefore are charged VAT. The case deemed that Jaffa Cakes were indeed cake (clues in the name, but I think
  25. I've got a nespresso and it makes me look like George Clooney! Coffee is surprisingly good (including espressos) and there is a huge selection of types of coffee depending on your preference. I generally have about 4 or 5 different types of coffee on the go depending on flavour, region, strength etc. They are also good from a convenience point of view. Stick a pod in, press a button, go and do something else for 2/3 mins, come back and you've got a cup of coffee waiting for you. They work out about 50p a cup and to be honest are on par (if not better) than most of the coffee
