  1. How does he manage that from his job at the Department of Home Affairs.
  2. It looks like some were taken professionally while others were taken by amateurs using camera phones.
  3. I go past there multiple times per week. They cleared it after the floods in 2015. So this isn't the first time they have cleared it.
  4. I set up a routine in the Alexa app to make Alexa announce "put water in the kettle" and schedule it for before I want a cup of tea. Or in reality, I know when it is scheduled to boil so I'm now in the habit of ensuring it is topped up ready. The best thing about it is that it displays the temperature of the water in the kettle. This is handy if like me you don't want the water too hot for herbal tea.
  5. I'm in Douglas and it's been installed in our street. I filled in the expression of interest form. it used to show a map highlighting which streets have made requests. https://www.manxtelecom.com/personal/internet/broadband-services/fibre-broadband-consumer/fibre-expression-interest
  6. Our politicians will do nothing about it until they realise that Living Hope and other evangelical congregations have overtaken the more traditional churches and they are requesting that the Bishop is replaced by one of their representatives. Hopefully things will change before that happens.
  7. 5Ghz on home Wi-Fi routers is not the same as 5G which stands for 5th generation.
  8. Great to see these photos, but wouldn't linking to an online album be better than posting them in the thread?
  9. If you have 100Mbps VDSL then your area is probably low on the list of priorities. My street only had ADSL 13Mbps. I have been complaining for years, but they said they had no plans to install VDSL. I eventually got a 4G router, which was better but still only around 40Mbps. I have recently had 100Mbps Fibre installed.
  10. I've tried Geocaching with my kids, but usually we are disappointed that we can't find the cache or if we do find it there is nothing exciting for the kids to swap. And usually there aren't many that aren't close to each other. I've recently discovered an app called Actionbound which is an app where you can follow treasure/scavenger type hunt. I created one for my son's birthday party. Feel free to give it a try. https://en.actionbound.com/bound/noblespark1
  11. Before you went PAYG phoning your landline from your mobile would have been free as part of Groups Call Free as long as both numbers were on the same bill. Perhaps this is why you hadn't noticed this in the past when phoning home.
  12. The news articles mention that it was a Special constable who spotted the imitation firearm and alerted an officer. It also mentions that Priestnal didn't realise the man was a police officer as he was in plain clothes. It sounds like an off duty special constable confronted Priestnal then called it in. It doesn't sound like a split second decision had to be made by the officer as he would have already been aware of what he was turning up to.
  13. The barriers are on each lower entry/exit point. I guess if the barriers are closed they can't open any doors so all fire exits would be blocked so they have to close.
  14. Last years flooding risk closure wouldn't have caused damage as the flood defence barriers were all in place by then.
  15. I have an AppKettle that is wifi connected and use the Alexa Skill and IFTTT. https://www.myappkettle.com/

    Cycling news

You also save on the VAT. As well as the salary sacrifice. Meaning you pay slightly less tax and NI. It's not just government now. Other companies have started offering it. My bike is due to arrive any day now.
  17. They told me the end of this year. They came and did a survey, and I've now had quotes for an alternative connection using fibre. Did you not get a letter from them telling you all about it? I doubt they'll get everyone moved over by the end of the year so they'll have to extend the cutoff.
  18. I have five of them around my house. I use them to control my TV, lights, heating, music, alarm clock, cooking timers, news, radio, intercom. If you don't have Amazon Prime, Amazon Music, or Spotify you will be limited to how much use you can get out of it for music. She struggles to answer most questions I ask her ask she uses a database of knowledge rather than searching the internet. When I use my defined phrases to run a routine such as 'Alexa, boil the kettle' you have to say it 2-3 times before she gets it but is fine with non-routine phrases. I only use the home automation skills, most of the others are fun for a while but soon lose interest quickly.
  19. Why are they using GSM network? Surely they would be better settting up a LoRa or other Narrowband network that can be used for other things such as vehicle tracking. What type of communication to those big waste bins with the solar panels use? I think they can be monitored remotely so only get emptied when full rather than every day.
  20. After years of emailing them complaining about them having no plans to install VDSL in my street, they offered me the deal that David2716 mentions. The cap is 1000GB per month which is fine even with my kids YouTube addiction. It's nice being able to upload a video in minutes rather than over night.
  21. Maybe the problem isn't due to the width of modern cars, but more to do with the width of people trying to squeeze out of their cars between the other cars and the pillars.
  22. Well I thought it was an interesting insight in to how the other half live. The other position in Tokyo demonstrates how their wealth has totally messed up their son.
  23. Any teachers here looking for a cushy job teaching 2-3 kids rather than 30+? Includes accommodation and use of a car. https://www.tutors-international.net/advert/428 What sort of people can afford that? Looks like they can't wait to get the kids packed off to boarding school.
  24. @Derek Flint How many accidents can be contributed to the automatic exchange of driving licenses from foreign countries? Should there be a basic driving test rather than just exchanging them? There are people I know who passed in other countries and never even took driving lessons they were taught by friends or family members.
