  1. On Chrystal's site there is no mention of the surrounding grounds and war memorial being included. So presumably they are being thrown in at the asking price of £475,000.
  2. Ye He is in DHA yes A tough position to be in Yes they have to present a united front.

  4. Young doctors don't want to be GPs these days. How many of our own young people have trained to be doctors rather than doing general degrees that don't lead to a vocation?
  5. I suppose you will always get this sort of thing while so many MLCs are still in departments.
  6. 'Pave pard Not really.it will untimately be a limited use site requiring quite a lot of investment. I've not been inside, so don't know what it's like, but why not lease it FOC or cheaply to Mr Kermode, as in the old Tynwald restaurant and Greens. If anyone can bring it to life, it would be someone like him. The place has huge potential and is in a great setting. It's often said and it is true, that you don't know what you've got 'till it's gone. 'Pave paradise and put in a parking lot'.
  7. He wasn't too explicit on where the million pounds saving was coming from seeing as nobody will lose their job either. Should have been pressed harder on the point. Was asked the question once and allowed to waffle around the answer. He said something along the lines that there are lots of jobs need doing in government. Right. Interviewers need to be a bit harder on MHKs. Just because they answer the question with a few words doesn't mean they have answered the question. Mr Harmer is a good example of this. He didn't explain how it was going to save money.

  9. Partly backed by a 'retired' civil servant too I believe. Funny that. New bike shop gets set up, there are links to ex government employees, and just like magic a new bike subsidy is announced in the budget and government is looking at bringing in a bike scheme for civil servants. Ever had the feeling you've been cheated? In fairness don't be too surprised. It's the Isle of Man ........... where you can! I don't think Govt employees will necessarily get to partake and I'm sure that the scheme wasn't drafted with them in mind. But, that is where you are wrong. The question (look at Hansard) was specifically about if the scheme is to be introduced for public servants...Minister Thomas said he was looking into it...and DOI are embarking on a looking a developing a cycling strategy...so, if the government are to lead by example they will by definition and through a twist of fate, possibly face a humungous bill for a shit load of shiny new bikes, lycra shorts and kevlar helmets...boom!! Maybe we could have an all-island integrated transport policy in which cycling is one aspect.
  10. I can't help feeling this would have been discussed when Heron and Brearley/ Mannin Retail did the deal over the Post Office Moving into their SPAR shop in Parliament Street. There is no mention of the grounds and granite in Chrystal's description. So presumably IOM government will still be paying for the upkeep and maintenance of those.
  11. Where are the high net worth benefactors when we need them?
  12. Our returning officers manage to lose votes even when they are written down as big crosses on bits of paper. How would they cope with STV and all those numbers?
  13. An To be fair there is nothing stopping the people of Ramsey buying it. ............and creating a lively community/arts centre.
  14. There doesn't seem to be much oversight of charities beyond submitting annual accounts to the Registry. And only a few of them are part of the IOM Council of Voluntary Organisations.
  15. https://www.gov.im/lib/docs/co/centraldouglasmasterplanfinalrep.pdf Time for another Douglas Master Plan?
  16. Yeah, that £7.20 per hour should stand them in good stead and secure their future. Utter bollocks. Edited to add that, at first, when you started posting. I thought you were a twat. I then changed my view to thinking that you were being misunderstood and were OK. I now revert to my first impression. Shame really. Come on Dilli. You're better than that. It's flexibility for 6 months. Like it or not the island does have next to no unemployment. It's a shit paying sector and not enough people to do it at the busier seasonal periods. What's wrong with the 700-800 who are currently on the dole? Do they want to work in hotels and restaurants? More likely don't want to work at all. 600 registered as unemployed in January 2017.

  18. It gets worse. A gill is a quarter pint, that's 5 fluid ounces in uk and 4 fluid ounces in USA. So there is common sense in the Manx measure, it's an imperial fluid ounce. There is scope for more confusion as colloquially a gill in Lancashire and Yorkshire was traditionally a half pint of milk or beer.. My grandad ordered a gill of beer if he went into a pub. No wonder the isle of Man never went into Europe.
  19. https://www.gov.im/media/1354969/chief-officer-group-minutes-january-2017.pdf I'd be more worried about this lot than the members in the chamber. How much money is this sitting round a table? And now we've got the Transformation and Reform team plus the new SAVE Team (Securing Added Value and Efficiencies)
  20. They could designate a wall somewhere and we could write our suggestions there. Maybe the former police station in Lord Street-a good reminder of how money has been wasted in the past.

  22. Maintenance of Broadcasting House But what does that £6.5 get you? You could demolish the place and rebuild it for that price. Disabled access and new carpets.
  23. Didn't he get £365,000 per year for advising about Pinewood investments?
