  1. It gives me no pleasure whatsoever to leave this site for good. There have been times I enjoyed some of the banter with those that manage to converse without foul language and abuse. However there appear to be more and more of the opposite ilk, and this recent discussion has brought them to the fore. I accept Stus apology , and hope he has learned from this. So sad that there are ( probably only a small number ) contributors whose sole reason for being on here is to abuse others. Incidentally this time I really do mean goodbye , I have returned a couple of times in the past, in the hope that a bit more decency and sensible discussion may have appeared. Sadly I was wrong. Goodbye
  2. I cannot believe that this disgusting comment has been allowed on here. As far as Peters is concerned I'm not the least bit surprised. He is an individual who appears to take glee in upsetting and annoying almost everyone he can. I think it's a disgrace that our National Radio Station allows his bigoted and at times , appaling bile to be inflicted on the Islands residents. God knows what people listening off Island think of this trash. If Manx Radio have not got the guts to sort him out , the Government should. Sadly other Low Life's have come out in support of this awful man , using Manx Forums for their dreadful opinions. Remove this if you have any decency about you.
  3. I think the World Leader reference will have been inserted by Manx Radio. Looking after their Paymaster and his ego. Gone now though, thankyou, thankyou, thankyou
  4. Dear God can't whoever it is that's responsible for this stuff get rid of these plainly very troubled individuals.
  5. Are you suggesting Nobles Park should be concreted over ? Fine plan, mabye we could to the same with Douglas Bay thereby solving the parking problem, creating a mile long berth for Cruise Liners, and we could befriend the Chinese again by ordering a couple of billion of those nice grey blocks to cover the whole thing. I recommend it to The House , and can't believe none of our potential MHKs have thought of the idea. We could of course just leave Nobles Park alone, for the enjoyment of Sports people and children with their families. Which I believe was Nobles plan.
  6. And giving Tax Holidays to anyone who will come here. Nearly everything the Government try , has been tried in England previously ( or on occasion Ireland ) I have not heard the ever popular anti Tourism quote ' nobody comes to places like the IOM anymore, they all go to Spain ' from any potential MHKs as yet. A comment trotted out by Government and certain sectors of our economy to excuse the decimation of an industry , that gladly is slowly recovering , despite Govs lack of interest
  7. Thus spake Vision 9 and all it's followers
  8. Don't tell us , you have also been a Book Critic. How long did that ' career ' last ?
  9. OMG, don't tell us ? - In the past you have also been a Film Producer. Incredible. Nope, never shot on film. Have written, shot, directed and/or produced numerous broadcast TV programmes and corporate videos though. I know it grates on you that I've achieved lots of things in life, sadly I don't know how little you've achieved to be able to compare (although I can guess). Woody2 - any port in a shitstorm eh? How predictable. Used to be the case that people who had tried endless different jobs , were thought of as ' master of none ' . In reference to my Job or the inflated ' career ' ( as insecure people call it these days ) I managed to survive in one job for 45 years. I was not, and never aspired to be the Top Man , but I was good enough to hold that job down all my working life , mostly happily . I consider myself one of the lucky ones. Paid ALL my Taxes and stamps, and have no guilt about the Pension I receive . I think I earned it. Pretty sure you said, last week, that you were NOT retired ! Are you not sure? Depends on the intelligence of the person I'm responding to
  10. Thankfully there only appear to be 3 or 4 ' thinkers ' contributing to this offensive tripe
  11. It doesn't cost 4k a day so that appears to be a silly question. As usual How much then ? £ 800,000 divided by 365 is between 2 and 3 thousand a day , is that more acceptable , or will you find a way to call that silly as well. I'm not 100% sure of the ' hand- out ' but it think it's around that mark. I am sure you can give us the exact figure , and are more than capable of dividing it by 365. I am about to return to my abacus and chalk board to check my figures, I am after all Manx so need extra time for such things.
  12. I am led to believe that next years MGP Races may take place before the Manx Motorcycle Race weekend. Reliable source, does anyone know anything about this ? Is it a plan to shorten the Meeting ?

  14. And that just confirms my suggestion, that temper will be the death of you
  15. And why does it have to be big ? Is it to conform with today's ' in people ' who according to the mass of housing programmes on TV demand masses of light and masses rooms, just like their offices. Small cosy Pubs , ( dimly lit usually ) but often full of atmosphere are very rare now. Doesn't mean they wouldn't work, problem is everyone seems to be catering for a generation of people who are happy ? To sit at home with a can of Supermarket ale and stare at a hand held device. ' Social Skills ' ? I think they are gone. I still along with many others enjoy a pint and a natter in a reall Pub. It doesn't cost the world if you only do it a couple of times a week, and don't drink at home. Give it a try, you may enjoy it
  16. Why would anyone be surprised, sadly a once a good community station with friendly and mostly modest presenters it is now so full of its own importance and has , apart from it's locally focused material , become boring with some very self important presenters. It also seems to think ( thanks to the money it receives from us via our Government ) that all it's listeners are interested in is Politics and Business. 3FM is good as far as ' local ' information and news is concerned. ' What else do we want from a LOCAL Radio Station ?Mabye MR should have a designated half hour daily Programme for businessmen to get their fix, and leave the remainder of their broadcasting to revolve around the Isle of Man and it's people , as other ' Local ' Radio Stations do. They seem to conform to Bells belief that we are an ' International Player ' with that beliefs associated arrogance
  17. I don't think anyone ' expects ' a Rainy Day they allow for it by putting something by in case things get tough. You haven't answered anything, just backed up your own beliefs. Why am I stupid enough to get into an argument with an arrogant Englishman ? I await your disagreement ( on various terms ) I really don't know why I respond to you, it's probably because you really do irritate me ( as I plainly do you ) I will however try really hard to ignore you in future, there has to be more to life. It would be good for both of us if you do the same
  18. It really is pointless, isn't it. I do however show great weakness in listening to your incredibly biased views. I will say goodbye again, but no doubt will be weak enough to respond to you again

    Agree wholeheartedly. Well said
  20. Jeez lad, to hell with cup half full or half empty, your cup really is always overflowing. They accumulated reserves because they couldn't spend it quick enough. Remember, it is like having a good lottery win, every week, For years. The Isle of Man Government banking system must have broke due to all the zeros on the figures accumulating. Anyway, back to seriousness. Those reserves are well accounted for and you know it. The place is well fucked apart from those in the know who filled their boots, and their wheelbarrows. You originally intimated that money was running out because essentially government had wasted it all.The main issue facing the reserves and islands do in general is the pspa issue. And of course it is a huge issue If the plethora of highly paid Civil Servants , Accountants and Advisors had seen the problem with the VAT and advised the Government accordingly then the spending spree of the time would have been adjusted accordingly ?. Or do you think all those top brains didn't see it coming. One way or the other overspending by our Government has got us in the mess we are in now. Oh , by the way, goodbye Mr Bell, Mr Teare and Mr Shimmin. The VAT agreement has been done to death. There was nothing to indicate a massive reduction was coming any time soon. Aside of that the island built up reserves north of one billion so you can hardly say it was all wasted. We have a modern hospital, sewage system (badly needed in both cases), new schools etc. There may have been cases where things cost more than they might have but that happens anywhere. It isn't an IoM exclusive problem. And the thing that really has us in the current position is a lack of action to address the pspa 10-15 years ago. As usual , self serving tripe. Denial of anything that does not suit , and promotion of anything that does. Are you saying that all of The Pension Fund ( our savings for a rainy day, not a plug for the VAT debacle and the MEA mess) was accrued during the FS years, I seem to remember it ( mabye under another name ) way before that. The Government wasted OUR savings and would still be doing the same if the VAT scandal had not come about. I see where you come from you know, as many others do on here, are you one of the Bankers / Accountants / who have put their names forward for the Keys Election. Your ideals seem perfectly suited to carry us into an even further decline.

Coronation Street earlier in the week - 18 minutes actual story in an advertised 30 minute Programme. Mabye the reason for the amount of ads on the TT programme was because of demand from advertisers for slots on a Programme featuring ' The Greatest Road Races in the World '

Pathetic, is that the best you can do in giving some comment on an excellent programme.
  23. If they would wish to now, I would be In total favour, but we now have all manner of ' Experts ' from across telling us how to run the TT / MGP. Experts that is, at running Short Circuit racing over a weekend on Closed Circuit Courses in the guise of British Superbikes. Apart from the Grandstand area being half empty on non Race Days , and the Paddock seized up because of the massive trucks needed to advertise themselves. Do any of the ' Star ' riders stay in these vehicles, because make no mistake , the privateers do, amidst the mud and water areas left in the Paddock after the needs of the ' Big Boys ' have been served
  24. Juan Turner was the most critical voice during the Tynwald debate. Regardless of the subject being the future of the TT, it is alarming how ill informed it seems that our government are about something which is our flagship enterprise when it comes to our island being recognised throughout the world! The ambitious plan to achieve 100,000 visitors within ten years would require considerable growth in infrastructure. Events such as this help to make this possible but I doubt that the TT alone could achieve this. It would be part of a long term plan involving a number of initiatives and until we have such a plan, we will never be able to transport 100,000 people to and from the island and accommodate them. The fact that Tynwald MUST have understood this and didn't question it at the time must mean that they had a plan, don't you think? I can't understand what Howard Quayle is worried about at this late stage? Was the 100,000 figure pa for the TT and Classic TT combined? It was 85000 as I remember it and that was TT and the FoM. Easily achievable because there is massive potential growth in the Classic Festival. And I think more people could come over in the TT fortnight with a change of format. Please tell us about your ' potential for massive growth ' with regard to :- getting people on and of the Island ( when they wish ) Accommodation,/ already clogged roads / A & E / Hospital beds / Extra doctors and nurses / Extra police / the extra money to pay for it. As you may know I am a lifelong supporter of the TT / MGP, both events are ( or were ) doing fine. It's the interference of those who's only interest in the events is making a few extra bucks that are the threat to their future. But there you are, all these 10 day TT experts will disappear overnight if things go wrong, along with their much beloved VIPs , Fan Zones, and attempts to tie all TT entertainment to the VIP areas at the rear of the Grandstand. There , of course will be many thousands left devasted by the loss of one of their great loves - The real TT / MGP Fans
  25. OMG, don't tell us ? - In the past you have also been a Film Producer. Incredible.
