  1. Would that be the same Bee Gees that claimed in their autobiography to have been born in Manchester? As if being born in Douglas was something to be ashamed of.
  2. Some more info here https://www.placenorthwest.co.uk/news/bidders-line-up-for-50m-liverpool-cruise-terminal/
  3. I’m sure they would be given a warm welcome if they visited Anagh Coar and popped into The Heron for a pint.

  5. The Times today gives more detail: - "Ms Dos Santos was put in charge of the struggling Sonangol in 2016 by the presidential decree of her father, José Eduardo dos Santos, whose regime became a byword for authoritarianism, corruption and nepotism. But when he retired as president in September 2017 she was quickly sacked. Details of the family’s property portfolio in London highlight the issue of fortunes linked to allegedly corrupt regimes flowing into the city. Ms Dos Santos bought a house in Kensington, west London, for £8.65 million without a mortgage in 2007 via an anonymous company registered on the Isle of Man. The property website Zoopla estimates its present worth at £13.3 million."

  15. Try typing “Tax prat of the year” into Taxation home page. Article can be accessed by clicking on article of that name (dated 5 Feb 2013} at bottom of search results. Perfect example of M.P.s who grandstand, IMO. Perhaps the UK could adopt the system tried by Sweden some time ago, where everyone’s tax records were publicly available. It would be a big exercise to bring this in, but they could start with M.P.s.......

  22. They weren’t actually distilling whisky, they were filtering the colour out of it and calling it Manx Whisky (it was clear, just like Vodka). Allied Breweries took them to court - God knows why - for calling it “whisky”. It afterwards coninued as Manx Spirit. Personally I think Manx Firewater would have been more appropriate.
  23. PWC report into this makes interesting reading. See Link
  24. Always wondered what happened to Robert Kilroy-Silk
  25. The scheme has a basic flaw though. A couple on the island, on reaching retirement age, sold their house, blew the lot on a luxury world cruise, then returned, pleaded poverty, and were given a Commissioners flat.
