  1. If FlyBe did disappear, my money would be on Loganair replacing the patient transfer service almost immediately. Already experienced in it with suitable aircraft - and a better booking system! As JW said, EasyJet wouldn't be interested because of knock on impact on other routes.
  2. But there's a misunderstanding here about how the CS works (rightly or wrongly). He may be an employee....but he is not her employee, nor is she his 'boss' in the strictest sense. There is a separation between the politicians and the 'executive' and in many cases this is well founded and dare I say...much needed (Graham Cregeen being in charge of Education I would say is a shining example....I rest my case....). So....let's just say that a Department had recently completed an open and transparent tender process to appoint someone to provide a service to the Department. That process had followed every detail of the guidelines and regulations in place to cover such things and yet a newly arrived Minister attempted to intervene to subvert that legitimate process for the sake of political interest and self-preservation. (i.e. without good cause) Hypothetically, of course, it would be the duty of the CEO (as the person legally responsible for the financial affairs of the Department) to stand their ground and make the case....potentially bringing them into conflict with the Political head of the Department. Not convinced that in such a hypothetical situation, you would want the Minister to remove the accountable CEO to install someone who simply laid down and rolled over at the slightest political whim. Of course, it might have just been a fight over the preferred type of biscuits they had at the weekly meetings. In which case, if it was anything other than chocolate hob nobs, not only should the CEO be fired, they should be taken outside and publicly flogged!!!
  3. Sefton don't own the Golf links do they??
  4. 14 pages........seriously 14 pages. (and counting) Dress it up however you like, this is a taxi service we are talking about. And one which is provided free (at the point of use etc etc......) If you find the 'free' service so inconvenient, or against your principles, then pay for your own cab. You could even use Bridgewater out of loyalty! Society in general seems to want service out of the NHS that was clearly never the intent when it was established. People need to get real....
  5. Why would anyone want to pay to see that, let alone pay for VIP seats. Indeed. Why would a bunch of Manx civil servants pay lots of money to an outsider with no experience of the Island to come over and tell them what will happen in the future based on guesswork, stating the obvious, and telling them what they want to hear? Am I missing something......what is the link here to 'Manx civil servants'?
  6. Rather than signing a petition, why don't those protesting just refuse the 'free' travel and support Bridgewater by booking their journey directly with them. After all, some things are more important than cost. (to use their own saying)
  7. Kind of this. There should be 1 sixth form 'college' which can provide first class A-level provision, using scale to drive adequate resourcing. The current College should be financed differently..... loathe to say 'privatise' as such, but the essence is along those lines. They should aim to be a technical college of excellence, providing vocational education and training that supports economic need. This will only be achieved if the funding model is changed. They should provide training in skills that are needed and current, rather on having a curriculum based on the capability of the teaching staff. The drive for 'University' status is utter folly and will do more harm than good in the long time. I cannot see a time, ever, when the Island will have a critical mass sufficient to have its own University. The change of name to University College Isle of Man is nothing more than an academic vanity project.
  8. Shower of shites, how the fuck are they still allowed to operate our of the airport? But of course they don't operate.....they are just a booking agent. Or some shit like that!!!!
  9. That means they will be paying more.....it's not an increase in their allowance.
  10. Define a number of years ago....to give some context.
  11. OMG I am in the same camp as AT I think. Why not have a farming subsidy linked to meeting the standards required to get on the shelves on national retailers?? I know that TESCO et al have a reputation fro driving down prices, but it seems when it comes to meat (unsurprisingly given incidents over the years), these standards are pretty reasonable. So, farm produce that can be of benefit to the Island or don't get taxpayer assistance. Seems pretty logical to me????
  12. Exactly. Easy to say I know......however, if I was a TT competitor involved in a 160+mph crash.....decapitation would likely be a better alternative than some of the other possibilities.
  13. I suppose it emphasises it was quick.....nay instant. If we accept that the TT has inherent danger, of which the riders and their families are fully aware, why then do we object to the details of incidents being in the public domain??
  14. It depends which way the wind is blowing, you probably remember the boat being diverted to Peel when an easterly wind was blowing. Unfortunately there is no linkspan there to allow this anymore. With the number of collisions it may be worth looking at again? Massive investment required. Not only in Linkbridge facilities but in terminal / passenger handling that will satisfy the requirements of the UK DfT (security etc). Never going to happen I'm afraid.
  15. Well in which case you have a poor memory....or rather time just erodes these kinds of memories. Ships get pranged regularly....despite the protestation of our regular forum doom mongers....in particular the one who appears to be an expert on everything. Banging of the pier was a regular occurrence....and in fact they used to bounce some of the older ferries intentionally to help them turn in the harbour, just patching them up regularly!! What you see in the video is pretty superficial damage to railings about 25ft above the water line, easily repaired. The bigger issue will be if she genuinely did touch the bottom (which if the case undoubtedly contributed to brushing the pier as well). I'm guessing divers are down already having a look.
  16. Yes, Home Stay and the Snooze Boxes are options that might be triggered in the coming days or weeks Excellent..... All at snooze box HQ now hurriedly changing their rates for this period too. Not all business needs to be conducted on public forums and social media..... #justsaying
  17. At least the 100k annual loss in the Government canteen will be sorted for the next 5 years.....
  18. Yes, there is no doubt he will. However, I think it will suit him to do exactly that. Trump in the world that we all knew in early 2016 and before would have been a nightmare. Now, he is no less a nightmare globally but for the UK post Brexit.....is a better option than Clinton. As sad as that is on many levels, Trump may just make Brexit workable. And not because of any specific trade deals with the UK.....but maybe for his feelings towards certain other EU countries and how the UK (if handled properly) could position itself in post-Trump years..... Safe to say....it is going to be interesting.
  19. OK.....there's no other explanation for it.... It's actually Notwell and Boredom who are one in the same. A kind of forum based Schizophrenia!!
  20. Oh my fucking God, you are such a miserable, insufferable, down trodden, negative twat. You epitomise why these forums have become utterly unbearable most of the time and why there are only a handful of active posters left. Please, can you vanish for a while again? Cheers.
  21. Combination of several of the points made by other posters. I regularly boil eggs and keep them in the fridge but never have the freezing issue. I think the iced water, plus a fridge which is probably too cold (mine is good but never felt it gets overly cold even at max) and hey presto. Frosted eggs. I have noticed the 'sweating' even when i dry the shells totally beforehand. But this never results in freezing.....possibly would if my fridge was colder though!! Do you keep them in the door or towards the back? Door could be the answer as it tends to be a degree or so warmer overall because of the opening etc..... God what a boring bastard I have become
  22. I've read that and am none the wiser really. It's a bit bland and we don't seem any further on from when this was last talked about. Have I missed something? Another 10 years of the Steam Packet me thinks......at least.
  23. It wasn't really debated properly or fully. You go back to Hansard. There was a shroud of secrecy and enforced compliance over the whole thing which is why people are still not happy with the governance issues. Of the entire membership of COMIN at the time none were investment qualified, none were sufficiently briefed or even cognisant of the risks, and none had experience of investing £10m of public money or of the risks presented by backing a single share. Neither was an independent consultant engaged to provide them with independent advise or assistance in analyzing the risks. But nevertheless it was rubber stamped through with very little debate. I don't disagree with some of that. But to say it wasn't open and transparent is not correct. Treasury 'probably' could have done this without Tynwald consent. But it was scrutinised, debated and voted on. The intelligence of the debate and understanding of those representing us is a different matter. And, bottom line, it worked out.
