  1. yep got about 6hours in the other day. feels more akin to the original Bioshock but with much more open levels...there are a few pretty big areas where using the sky-rails during combat is a must.

    Amazing animations on Elizabeth.

Can't wait to get back into it, shame my internet is out and I can't access Steam in offline mode without first being online!!

  2. looks very pretty...but jeez that generic by the numbers game-play.

So many good shooters out there at the moment BF4 is really going to have to up it's game. I've not played BF3 now since the aftermath dlc

Planetside 2 offers bigger battles, and Arma3 is really scratching the "tactical" itch. I don't really see any other shooters coming up ( apart from the obligatory annual COD title ), so to be honest I was expecting something more.

Still very very pretty, looks like it's getting about time to upgrade the GPU or think about another 580 and throwing it in SLI!

  3. It's completely open world, much more tactical, a much slower pace and a pretty steep learning curve. Be prepared to die...a lot...and usually without even seeing who it was who shot you.

There are Vehicles, scuba diving, helicopters and don't forget this is only the alpha, so there's so much more content to come. Add onto this the amazing modding community and you've got one of the ( imho ) defining shooters of a generation.

Here I found this to be pretty handy...

Honestly I'm having so much fun on this game it's unreal...myself and 2 other guys last night set up and executed a roadside ambush against a convoy of 2 pickups and a Humvee! Didn't think it was going to pan out, but when it did there was joyous celebration as we picked over they're bodies and took the loot!

    £20...well worth a punt

( edited to add the right youtube link )

  4. Mike it's currently only £20 on Steam, it's only at alpha stage at the moment but you get the full game on release and 3 arma3 lite codes to give to your friends ( the lite version only has the single player missions and the editor and i think you can only play for a week or so ).

apparently the codes are released today ( i'm yet to check my Steam inventory )...

I'll check with my mates to see if anyone wants one, but if not i'll be willing to drop them here for people to use.

The game itself is gorgeous, it's taken a bit of tinkering but i'm getting a solid frame rate ( between 40-60 FPS dependant on the situation ) with most things set at high ( I'm running an i5 2500 overclocked to 4.3gig and a single GTX 580 ).

Absolutely loving it so far, haven't played anything since it came out!

  5. I played for a few hours last night, didn't have any seagul related incidents...I'm really falling for the game though. Such a massive step up from Arma2, graphically, animation wise, gun-play everything is just fantastic.

HeliX if you want to add me on Steam my id is kymholland

  6. Picked up Arma3 the other day off Steam ( £20 ), just wondering if anyone is playing.

I'm usually not a big fan of Arma, but a lot of DayZ play has whetted my appetite for a more slower paced shooter.

a lot of hackers online at the moment, but as the game is only at Alpha i'm fairly sure this will be fixed in good time.

The mod support for this game is already pretty impressive, with wasteland having lots of servers, even some zombie servers...

Looks pretty nice as well, even on my single GTX580!

  7. just to add my 2 cents, I can vouch for the validity of this sale. I know the guy who is selling ( he phoned me the other day offering me the system ), definitely not a phising scam!

Seriously I wish i had a spare couple of hundred quid for one of those GPU's!

  8. the game is amazing...massive in scope and if, like me, you're a collection fanatic it's right up your street. Gunplay is satisfying and shockingly the stealth system works a treat.

I'm getting 40-50fps on my GTX580 with most things set to high ( a few on ultra ) running DX11

    Crafting, shooting, exploring...it's wonderful!

  9. now preloading...i'm interested to see how my GTX580 is going to shape up, looking at some of the benchmarks even the 680s are having some slight issues!

stocking up on supplies, i've got a feeling i'll be pulling an all nighter on this!

  10. OK managed to get it pre-ordered from Green Man Gaming, never used them before so fingers crossed. That's Friday sorted out, I just hope GMG have a preload available!

  11. So it's been released fully, 3 giant continents and thousands of players. I've been playing a few hours most evenings and it's improved greatly over the Beta. Still a few little niggles but for the size and scope of the game it's brilliant...

    Plus....IT'S FREE!

  12. well i'm off on Friday as it is, so I'll check with GAME to see if they'll have it in stock, then just head into town do a bit of xmas shopping and pick up the game...

  13. released today! I managed to get hands on with this at Eurogamer and have to say I walked away very very impressed ( enough to queue up 3 more times to play through the same level ).

has got some pretty impresive reviews and with comparisons to thief 2 ( arguably the best thief game in the series ), I can't wait to play it tonite ( it's been preloaded for a week! )

here's the RPS's take on the game :

  14. I've not played now for a few months, the hackers and alt-f4's were just getting too much...

I really do hope they manage to get it sorted out, honestly it's provided me with some of the most tense gaming experiences ever.

Have you had a look at War Z that is going into closed beta at the end of this month, a very similar premise to Day Z but with slightly better graphics.

I've signed up for the beta, and am interested to see how this plays out.
