  1. Have you never negotiated a price for something? The seller always starts high and the buyer low. The 30% will be an opening gambit. They won't realistically expect to achieve that.
  2. Private sector employers are clearly becoming much more progressive than they have been in the past then. Probably a good idea to consider why that is? Some is a response to legislation but increasingly its because the job market is very competitive and attracting, recruiting and retaining employees on minimal terms and conditions means you will soon be out of business. Unless you can find sadists like Banker of course...
  3. Private sector employee and I get an hour break for lunch plus being office based often have periods talking to colleagues which you could fairly argue as breaks. DSE regulations also recommend frequent short breaks from using such equipment. I can also work flexibly so if I shorten my lunch break I can start or finish earlier. Sucks to be you! Suggest you go and renegotiate your terms and conditions of employment if they are so bad.
  4. Trick or Treat is an American import and does carry a sinister threat. I was brought up when people walked around singing "Jinny the Witch" and people would then come to their doors if they wanted. Much like Christmas Carollers (spelling?). I now fit into the miserable bastard category which is distinctly different from being "vulnerable".
  5. If he was unwell then why was he there in the first place? Why hadn't they stopped him entering? Much more likely is that this was intended to disrespect Hu and undermine his position. Given that Hu doesn't normally appear much on TV in China it may be that we simply hear that his illness worsened and he passed away.
  6. If he likes to keep his religion private he is pretty bad at it.
  7. You may want to go and check your facts.
  8. "The Britain our parents fought and sacrificed for" The Isle of Man is not part of Britain, however, fine if you are referring people who were actually residents of or born in Great Britain. I do like the irony though of that statement when compared to "glorious burbling German V8". Did the parents of Britain fight and sacrifice their lives so you could drive a German car? The same company that was happily producing engines for German aircraft to bomb Britain? I know they have since admitted their links to the Nazis and moved on with the rest of the world but still... Hell of a way to repay the sacrifice of life. You should be buying British.
  9. More good news. That walking caricature had no place in the Cabinet. Hopefully he will lose his seat at the next General Election. Absolute self-servibg cretin!
  10. Why do I get the feeling that this new role will involve several overseas fact finding missions in search of new ideas.
  11. Guessing this would be what he is referring too.
  12. I do find it interesting that the Conservative Party have now delivered the first female Prime Minister and the first person of colour (and Hindu) Prime Minister. Not sure what to make of this given the party can often be anti-immigration... Anyway, how long will he last? Last time Max started a thread the PM was out within 2 months,
  13. Have you seen the price of electricity at the moment? If you had invested in solar panels a year or so ago you would probably be quids in now.
  14. You realise that solar panels systems come with batteries so the energy can be stored?
  15. Alexander Boris De Pfeffel Johnson was born in New York City. Rishi was born in Southampton. That caller was being racist and also saying that the Conservative party membership is also racist.
  16. Johnson is a populist and nothing more. What the UK needs isn't someone who would be a good laugh on a night out but a competent Statesman who has a positive reputation on the world stage. When I answer your question on Corbyn I will revisit Johnson. I don't think these labels help. It was his own party who got rid of him as leader not a "apoplectic lefties". Johnson simply has no morals and no conscience and is only out for himself. Everyone should realise that. Utterly unforgivable but he was not and is not Prime Minister. Returning to Johnson, has anyone seen the Russia report? The one investigating allegations that Russia had interfered in the EU referendum? The one that Johnson shelved with some vague excuse...
  17. Totally disagree with you. This version of Labour have set out their policies and how they would be funded. The Tory party have even taken to stealing some of those ideas and claiming them as their own
  18. So.... Who did Stu upset to be given the DOI?
  19. Looks like the Boris Johnson thread may get be resurrected... 😭

  21. I wonder if events in China may have an impact on the situation in Ukraine. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/oct/14/we-all-saw-it-anti-xi-jinping-protest-electrifies-chinese-internet Assuming the news filters through to the Russian population could it prompt the Russian people to take direct action against their rulers? Would a potential domestic issue cause China to focus internally and if so what would that mean for Russia and Ukraine? Obviously very early days in China but you don't normally see this sort of protest in China.
  22. But it's not a war! It's a Special Military Operation!! Someone really needs to start calling out this BS and ideally it would be one of the nations close to Putin but that looks unlikely.
  23. It wasn't allowed when I was at school either but the girls would leave home with their skirt at the correct height only to then roll it up later. If challenged they would unroll it until the teacher had gone and then adjust it again. It was always a bit of a game with school uniform to see how far you could push it. You would also see ties either really short or 'reversed' to create a thin tie. Then there was the various footwear that never really fitted in to the dress code
