  1. He would appear to have made a long series of very bad management decisions - the upshot of which is that a great deal of our money has been spent / wasted , and where are we ? Stacks of new buses , which should be very easy to maintain ... until they get a little older .. then we'll probably sell them on and get a load more new ones Only one steam engine in service , and the white (green) elephant that was supposed to ride to the rescue is propped up on old sleepers waiting fixing, and has been for some time. Trams running away down the mountain (still awaiting the investigative report five

  3. This has Longworth written all over it. Hasty decisions made with little regard to consequences. History will not look kindly I feel, on this era of transport history. Still, at least the Prom is flat .... these trams won't be 'rolling away' ....
  4. Can anyone really see a large firm from the mainland delivering something like this for under 10k ? - travel and accommodation costs would probably have been more than that. What I suspect is that Ms Beecroft has been fed a convenient figure that might sound plausible ... maybe this was the cost of the hardware, or some other portion of the total cost that might, with a little creative flair be described as 'the simulator'. Similar to the green cabbage at its £400k cost - yeah right - that just what has been admitted to, and doubtless much more has actually been spent (wasted) to date.
  5. I suppose this situation defines 'irony' beautifully. I doubt that Longworth and his cohorts will see that though. However much this cost ( and it wasn't £9.99 from Game for sure ), it's hard to see how the money can ever be recouped. More to the point, who had the daft idea in the first place , and how much management/staff time has been wasted on the whole project ? Didn't I hear on the radio yesterday that 'management' pouring all its resource into getting Snaefell up and running after the floods was the reason the Green Scrapheap Challenge hadn't been fixed yet .... Meanwhile ....
  6. The Civil Service are, contrary to opinions expressed on this forum, not just admin people. There are many and numerous highly skilled people who have made civil service careers. There is no good reason to be so negative about the IOM Civil Service. However, should the Island determine it did not want its own civil servants to argue the Island's case it could hire skilled folks from a whole range of areas. I would personally need convincing this would be the correct course of action but hey .. This is a great place but it needs this negative demeanour to be reversed. I see little good
  7. Around £850 million IIRC, and if the rumours are true about to be poured down the 2.5 billion PS/CS pension black hole. This would require legislation to go through Tynwald and there would be one unholy row should it be proposed. I'm not saying it won't happen, but it certainly should not happen and it cannot be done on the quiet. That's reassuring , but I'm sure they'd like to try. For sure there would be an unholy row , and rightly so.
  8. It's Longworth I believe. The accepted mantra seems to be that if a taxpayer asset has wheels then Longworth is responsible for it. And even if the taxpayer didn't actually pay for it, in respect of community and school minibuses, though I believe this has now been resolved....such a huge empire to maintain.... Not a problem if you have a big enough ego ... however misguided.
  9. I would agree. So why is government (the Post Office) preparing to invest our cash in a big re-development project to apparently create more retail space in Regent Street? These "savings" could quite easily end up costing us absolutely millions. It would appear that every 'initiative' ends up costing the taxpayer - getting quite tedious don't you think. Future historians may well look back and dub this as 'The Age of the Idiots', as they sit in front of their mud huts, ruefully gazing into the fire ( because that's all we'll be able to afford live in )
  10. And we certainly have a few of those ! (off topic) Has anyone heard anything (at all) from our newly appointed Director Of Tourism ? .... it all seems rather quiet .... I hoped he would be full of new ideas , blazing a trail for IOM Tourism and reinvigorating the economy .... oh dear, time for my medication.
  11. Only the best is good enough for him. He's been responsible for spending a horrendous amount of money on stuff we can't afford - especially his fleet of new buses. Where does he think he is - Central London ? Took the government for a ride I'd say. Nearly forgot to mention the diesel which hasn't been seen for a long time - is it still rotting away somewhere ? At least £500k ( which I suppose is all they'd admit to , though that probably means over a million by now ... ) pissed away. He should hang his head in shame and resign, or maybe he could help out by standing in for one of his n

  13. And worth every penny surely , and only 60k ? ... why a veritable bargain !
