    Fancy a pint?

I was in the UK last week had an excellent meal in a harvester massive salad bar honey and glazed half chicken sweet chilli dressing all the trimmings and a pint of Amstel lager £9-99 , similar deal in Witherspoon's in Liverpool choice of starter or sweet , .decent main course and a beer under £10 the lot Okells red was on sale for less then £2 a pint , no wonder the place is full of students , we are a captive audience here with little choice ,other than the free houses who seem to be trying to attract decent custom , best food I have had locally for taste and value is at Cycle 360 , so good you have to fight for a seat sometimes but worth waiting for
  2. I don't think he has any say ,its a UK tax that an element was shared with the isle of Man as a rebate , but increased aviation fuel and other charges will soon cancel that out , Rishi didn't make it clear weather it would apply to the isle of Man and Channel islands or not ,you will have to wait see whats written in the small print and weasel words attached to the Budget statement
  3. Funny some people feel the same way about Gawne , he is working himself into manx radio ,another legend in his own lifetime with a host of Skeletons in his political closet ,don't hear much of the Son of Gawne or has he worked himself into a job with the BBC ? Time we had some real investigative presenters up there and some decent political programmes back on air again
  4. it will be impossible to give an exact date for the completion of the promenade works , there is a defects period yet ,and in my opinion much of the work allegedly completed is substandard and should be required to be done again there is also damage to private properties that needs to be addressed , I don't know who came up with a design for the points on the horse tram rails ,but that, and the installation of the track looks like its also going to cause a significant delay , Add the possibility of contractual disputes ,and areas that might very well go to arbitration , we will be lucky if we see the prom taking shape before the springtime , in fairness to Crookall he has taken on a job most people would run a mile from ,and with the added possibility of a public enquiry into the cost and delivery of the whole promenade scheme , please give the Lad a chance !

    Fancy a pint?

I am just glad I get the chance to go away occasionally and enjoy a meal in Harvester or Witherspoons where you can still get a starter , and a main plus a pint of beer for less than £12, and the food in excellent and very well presented ,

    Fancy a pint?

I took a friend to eat in the Creek in Peel last week not only was the food fantastic ,and really good value for money ,he couldn't get over the choice on the menu , we had to go early ,for even in October it gets quite full , you cant have a better recommendation than that , I have also eaten in the Marine in Peel recently also excellent value for money ,
  8. Rob sadly is become a political liability ,and probably no one wants to work with him , you can not possibly conduct sensitive government business on social media , many think he is a Tosser !, all this unfortunately is very much of his own making ,even in politics there are unwritten rules and standards to maintain which he seems to ignore

    Legco 2021

So where did he go wrong then ? because none of these election promises have ever been debated ,never mind achieved failure on all three accounts , and his claim to fame was he orchestrated the closure of most of the Isle of Man bank rural branches ,
  10. there used to be one in the Palace hotel and casino its yonks since I have been in there can somebody tell me if its still there , ?

    Legco 2021

I thought he had stood down so he could spend more time with his family , had he stood in Middle and been successful , he could have sought election or elevation to leg co in 2 years time , I didn't think he was a supporter of Leg co anyway ,and wanted it done away with
  12. I hope in this lady ,we are not seeing another version of Rob , where every decision taken in Tynwald is tried to be justified on social media , We elect people to the House of Keys to listen to the evidence and make decisions on our behalf , we don't need a running commentary to try to justify the decision , neither do we need to know what they had for breakfast or require a daily blog , its a turnoff for most constituents ,so please learn from Robs mistakes ,
  13. I see Rob has been bleating to Manx radio about turning down the post office job , he really is a drama queen ,I don't know who he thinks he is, his previous performance in government DOI and Motorsport DFE leave a lot to to be desired , he doesn't seem to have the attention span of a Gnat ,and shows poor judgement , the only way for him to get out of this mess is to take a job and show 100% commitment , prove he is worthy of the office and to represent the people of Onchan ,who invariably are the ones loosing out ,
  14. Chris Thomas's popularity is on the incline , he will have to produce the goods in his new role or face the wrath of the electorate ,people are seeing through him ,we don't want an Oxford debate every time an issue requires to be progressed , housing is already at crisis point ,and the islands first time buyers ,and all those involved in trying to clamber up the greasy pole of property purchase and fair rental urgently require a solution ,
  15. whatever you think ,they were elected to form the government and have RESPONSIBILITY for the good governance and well being of the Isle of man , lets give them a chance !,
  16. there are a number of important positions yet to be filled in Alf's line up , the most important of these is the Chair of the Planning committee which is a hard slog with much home reading and revision , also the poisoned cup at the Office of fair trading , who will take on the might of Manx Telecom and Manx Gas on behalf of the consumer , as the last 2 incumbents have discovered its become a graveyard for politicians ,mainly because its a toothless tiger ,big job to be done here ! as prices continue to rise , also Head of the civil service commission the hirer and sometimes firer of government employees and the link to governments relations with the trade unions , plenty for a budding back bencher to get their teeth into , but I guess many will just want to court the media , fill up the question papers and throw sh1t at the wall hoping some will stick , And who will follow Julie into the chair of the ailing post office ,? lots of challenges there for politicians with a work ethic
  17. Peel is the best place on the isle of Man ,thats provided the DOI don't ruin it unique characteristics , , leave the quayside alone no silly sticky out parking bays and don't ruin Micheal street and Athol place by making it look like Milton keynes I hope Crookall will put a stop to all this nonsense and a waste of money on nice to have's , Sewerage treatment scheme yes , a business park , yes more jobs in the west of the island , yes ,
  18. This situation should be reviewed ,, in the interest of providing better value for money ,especially when there are no permanent incumbents in the key positions ,
  19. I think you are incorrect ,they are still ministers until they are replaced ,and that doesn't happen until the new boys are given their warrant and authority form the Lt Governor ,wait for the line up next week and the picture of the new boys holding their certificates !
  20. don't forget he has to fill some of the most difficult positions as well as ministers , government can't function without a chair of the planning committee chair of the Civil service commission , chair of OFT ,and all the areas most members will not wish to be associated with because of the workload , everybody wants to me a minister ! Alf't task is just beginning , and now there all getting paid the same irrespective of being in a department or causing trouble from the back benches ,its become even more difficult , some are sulking and just want to cause trouble and fill keys and Tynwald question papers , without doing anything meaningful for the good of th isle of Man
  21. Has anyone else heard about this HUB that is going to be built at the airport to relocate emergency vehicles and keep the recently purchased American mega fire engines ,and keep everything in a controlled heated environment , there has just been a new fire station completed across the road near the Sefton Express , you have to ask yourself where is all this money coming from and is there a requirement to build these facilities ?
  22. Chris is an academic , but has no real business experience or acumen to add to that the previous minister has left the department looking like a stranded beached whale ,void of experienced entrepreneurial staff , there needs to be a root and branch review of the department of Enterprise , as in its present form its not pulling its weight ,right across the spectrum , Tourism is a shadow of its former self ,and Banking ,corporate services are fading away , and in spite of this Aircraft registry and shipping are continuing to show significant growth , but that because they are now technically ring fenced from the department and they have excellent dedicated staff , Chris will probably want to sit in judgement on all the scrutiny committees with Mr Squeeker , after all its the same pay now weather you are working hard in a department or a back bencher ,which I could never understand , we live in strange times !
  23. Now you know why their friends in the DOI have been pushing for the widening and destruction of the wall and hedges along Tromode road ,alongside the football and cricket pitches , active travel my arse , what they are planning is the wholesale destruction of a quaint riverside road ,and want to turn it into a major link for the 300 new houses ,only to be gridlocked at the bottom of Bray hill and traffic backed up all the way down quarter bridge road to the quarter bridge , Drainage will be into the river glass on the north side, and into the river Dhoo on the Southside , ,question is why is anyone considering developing housing in one of the most congested areas of Douglas and Braddan , and whats to follow , open up Camlork again , while the quality of life in this area is failing fast
  24. I think Quine will be back at some stage , he is a good man and now has an appetite for Manx politics , its a great pity the legislative council has been denigrated and maligned to such an extent ,that no one from the keys will want to seek to join it and make way for a bye election in Keys to take place ,therefor no experienced Tynwald members in there who can hit the ground running ,or tackle major pieces of legislation , or now it seems , serve in government departments and give some of the new people the benefit of their Tynwald and Government experience , I recon it will be well into the New Year before the new House of Keys finds its feet !
