  1. It’s getting into the realms of taking the piss now. I don’t understand why there hasn’t been a riot so far.
  2. (who doesn’t work for government) https://www.manxradio.com/news/isle-of-man-news/some-businesses-will-not-be-able-to-survive-cost-of-living-crisis/ It looks like the drawbridge is now up. Despite the DOI alone being £40M over budget on the Liverpool project we are reminded that now it’s all hitting the fan government can’t help everyone who doesn’t work for government. So if your business is struggling you’re probably screwed. But if you do work for government it’s going to be a great few years blowing out reserves until there’s little left while we all reconvene down the soup kitchen.
  3. It’s clear they plucked that random testing requirement straight out of thin air hoping that it would piss them off enough to go elsewhere. Which is what they did.
  4. I’m guessing he spends a lot of his wages on cat food.

    There’s a euphemism there somewhere.
  6. It’s very clear from reading the actual FOI email trail (and not that badly compiled rubbish IOM Newspapers put together) that they made up extra covid tests to try to piss off the cruise operators and make it more likely they’d go somewhere else. Which is exactly what happened.
  7. It’s exactly what they will do though and nobody will say a thing. There must have been at least 20 people predicting the same thing on here for at least the last 10 years.
  8. People always said it would eventually happen. That they would completely raid the NI fund one day. Because they’ve always thought it was their money not ours.

    Minimum Wage

What even is c-level? Is that a socialist special demarcation thing?
  10. This is what makes the whole thing so disgusting and cynical. We’re being told it’s tough and we have to tighten our belts yet they fucked up to the tune of £40 MILLION over budget on Liverpool and nothing is said. Not one thing. It’s just tough shit on us that our taxes go to fund a bunch of absolute morons who won’t even get booted even though a £40M project is now £40M over budget and it hasn’t even been completed yet. It’s the same with the prom and any other project you care to mention. They’re just taking the absolute piss out of us.

    Minimum Wage

A lot of them may well have struggled to meet the payments. If they’ve been duped by government then government should give them a tax credit to compensate.
  12. Honestly you can’t justify a £19.5 million overspent two months in. That’s not significant inflation in bills. It sounds like you’ve been brain washed by the idiots at the DOI already in fact.

    Minimum Wage

You suggest that they’ll happily look after their own pensioners with massive inflationary increases for doing fuck all but will happily fuck over everyone else by trying to re-write things?
  14. Bandits

    Minimum Wage

Because it shouldn’t have been made and because it will have affected employers profits. They acted on guidance given to them by government which was basically completely wrong.

    Minimum Wage

But employers have been completely misled by government to paying people more than they should have. It’s not the employees fault is it? Employers took government guidance on the living wage and it will have affected their P&L over the last 5 years.
  16. And which group of people are now stopping us recovering from the whole thing by sticking their unwanted oar into everything for everyone.

    Minimum Wage

That link is quite concerning though. So it looks like we invented a working wage and told employers that they should pay it. Then 5 years later it becomes clear that anyone who paid it overpaid their employees. So why would any employer voluntarily do it again? It seems that we can’t even get the basics right when it comes to anything. We have to employ third parties to check the stuff civil servants have completely made up. If I was an employer I’d be asking for a tax credit to make up for the 5 years of overpayment I was wrongly led to have made by following made up government advice.
  18. At least the camera operator knows who he is now.

To be honest in addition to the ridiculous number of politicians that page looks like a role call of the usual Manx ‘worthies’ and a few token gay & trans people tagged on at the middle and end.

The replacement has an Aston too.

I’m surprised hissingsid is to be fair unless he’s bringing some wet sponges to throw.
  22. Because I imagine the MUA is their seller of last resort in the current market with their crappy balance sheet. But presumably if Manx Gas can’t hedge via the MUA anymore and the MUA can hedge it’s position then inherently there would seem to be considerable potential for arbritage between long and spot purchase between supplier and customer?

    Another Aston driver then?
  24. Do you read the papers? https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-isle-of-man-61082191
  25. They aren’t any more. They buy off the MUA at current as they aren’t allowed to hedge themselves via the MUA anymore. So what price do they buy all the gas off the MUA for even if the MUA has hedged it’s own position? Is it the spot price on the day that they use it?
