  1. People's champion Chris Thomas to launch 'Year of Democracy 2016' project in Tynwald today with his call for a constitutional reform commission & referendum on legislative reform http://www.manx.net/tv/mt-tv/watch/72529/call-for-a-referendum
  2. With the UK election votes showing just how disproportional first past the post can be I've been reading up a bit about PR and especially STV. Am I right in thinking it was tried for a while on the Island, but then dropped? My opinion is that it would be perfect for an elected Legco - multiple, all Island Candidates voted in via a transferable vote. The same process could also be used for a unified local government system with 4 (North, East, South, Douglas) big multi-member local council constituencies. The Island needs a counter-balance to Comin. Tynwald is a rotten borough with nearly everyone taking the Chief Minister's shilling so is ineffective at providing opposition. Accountability both above, via Legco, and below, via a unified local council, would help fill the Island's democratic deficit and provide a proper training ground for democratically accountable politicians. Thoughts?
