  1. http://www.iomtoday.co.im/news/isle-of-man-news/board-welcomes-news-former-school-site-will-be-developed-1-8209614 https://services.gov.im/planningapplication/services/planning/planningapplicationdetails.iom?ApplicationReferenceNumber=16/01103/B Interesting application, its a pity they couldn't be a bit more imaginative with the design for a site which is prominent in the town. There's enough 70's tat around the place, something that reflects the 21st century would be welcomed.
  2. Has anyone seen this? There appears to be a cycling tour starting in Ramsey in May. Apparently it's televised?
  3. I couldn't see this anywhere on the IOMToday website so thought I'd post it here. Perhaps I'm being overly optimistic but it's encouraging to learn that more people are reading as I had been under the impression that new technologies were leading people to read much less. It would be interesting to see a demographic break-down of exactly who is reading and what particular segments of the population are reading. Is this reading being done by people from all walks of life or is it primarily the elderly and more financially comfortable? I would like to think people from less well off backgrounds are actively encouraging their children to read. I also hope their copies of Nineteen Eighty-Four and A Brave New World are getting read by as many people as possible. On the other hand, many of these thousands of books being read could be romance novels or something. I suppose even that is better than being glued to a television screen which is on record as lowering IQ. This news article raises a lot of questions. It's got me curious as to who's reading what now. Anyway, I think I'm going to go to Ramsey at the weekend and have a skeet at their library and maybe join.

  6. At about 8:30pm this evening there was a fire in Ramsey, near the southern pier. Two fire engines passed by moments after I took this picture, you could smell the smoke from quite a distance. I hope nobody was hurt.
  7. A mountain bike has been stolen from the garden of a house in Waterloo Road on Sunday night at 11:50pm. The two culprits removed the blue 20inch Apollo Ridge Mountain bike costing £200 from a front garden and in the process damaged a motorbike fairing and a car wing mirror. The two men, one riding the stolen mountain bike and the other on foot, went in the direction of Albert Road stopping only to verbally abuse a driver in a passing car. The owner of the mountain bike gave chase but was unable to catch the thieves. If you were the driver of the car, witnessed the incident or if you know of anyone trying to sell a Mountain bike of the same description please notify the Ramsey Police Station on 812234 or Douglas Police Headquarters on 631212.
