Made a brief visit to Atholl Street Isle of Man Bank HQ and was horrified to see that the banking hall is being "modernised". Gone are the Victorian wooden counters which are going to sent to the Gaiety Theatre for patrons to prop themselves up on at halftime. The historic marble banking hall is mentioned in many visitor guides to the Isle of Man and one of the jewels in the crown of the Island's heritage. Does anyone know: - Is the building listed in anyway? Is planning permission necessary? Was Manx National Heritage consulted? Was the government consulted, given that this is the headquarters of the Island's Government Bankers and home of the Island's currency? The name of the buffoon responsible? Would be interested to hear the views of others.
