Ans can you expand on your comments and offer a solution please, ta

I guess Ans is saying that your computer has been hacked and that it is currently being used to send out thousands of spam emails.

What to do about it? Take it off line parhaps, so it can't be used as a spam relay, and either clean it up or format and reinstall.

There's an automatic system in place I believe where if you send out more than 6500 emails in a one hour period, your SMTP port is shut down. I think you'd find it difficult to do that number manually so you're either running a high volume mailing list from your residential adsl connection (unlikely, and dumb) or you have a trojan or virus of some description that is using its own smtp engine to hijack your machine to spam people about viagra and penis enlargement.

Suggest you look at it as soon as possible as you never know what other information they're mining. Credit cards, bank details, identity theft.. it could all happen.

Disconnect now. And I mean now. Get to a clean uninfected machine and download something like NOD32 (anti virus) onto CD or USB and get it onto the infected machine and run it.

Also, change your passwords.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't read your first post properly and it seems you used an online service to remove something. I'd still take the steps above as the online service is nowhere near as reliable as a dedicated appliation in my experience.

Thanks Ans.

In the meantime I have downloaded the Norton protection trial offer and that discovered a "tracking cookie" that has now been dealt with.

I need to get on to Manxnet 151 to inform them of my actions and get them to open my e-mail a/c but I'll take your advice about an indepent computer.

A tracking cookie isn't your problem. If you're sending out more that 6500 emails then your computer is hacked wide open and is being used to send the type of spam that we're all suffering from at the moment

Im sick of getting emails from people with the title Viagra, every time i log in to my email account i get emails from all sorts of people with really strange titles, how do i stop it? it does my head in lol

You need a good spam filter, MT's new mail platform should be implementing a new spam filter which should reduce it, assuming you're talking about a manx.net email account.

Googlemail has a very good spam filter system.

I have a manx.net email account and I use Incredimail as my email program. I've used Incredimail for a couple of years so I have no problems with it. A few weeks ago I joined a Yahoo Group and everything has been fine, but since (I assume) manx net has been having problems the email I use for this yahoo group kept bouncing and I had to keep reseting it. Last Sunday I had 150 emails from this group and it took over seven hours to download them :( Anyway, the past couple of days I have had another 150+ emails, but they are struggling to come through and as of yesterday (Thursday) my emails have risen to over 270. I'm now struggling even more to get them. After HOURS and HOURS I get so many downloaded and it then stops and starts downloading them again  I've gone onto No Mail for this Yahoo Group (wish I did it sooner!) to stop even more coming through. But I just can't get these 270 emails downloaded. Will this new platform help any?
