I just hope everyone makes it over. All this travel chaos will ruin the Islands image not only for the TT but also as a place to enjoy a holiday. This will result in many people having a rethink to there future plans visiting.

A complaint form regarding the actions of the Steam Packet company has been produced and details can be viewed here.

Or if you wish you can send your own certificate direct to the steam packet by filling in the form on the link here and posting it direct.

just seems madness they're turning people away left right and centre but then have a couple of boats sitting around doing nothing

A very simplistic view of the problem really.

In reality the vast majority of TT 'fans' want to travel to the Island within 2/3 days and similarly leave the Island on either the Friday or Saturday of TT week. There in lies the problem. This skews the pressure even more from a spread over the 2 weeks, to a massive demand over both weekends.

This highlights my point exactly. The travel 'chaos' has surely been caused by the Steam Packet trying to cram in additional sailings to provide capacity for the huge demand created this year.

May this tempt them in future years to say 'bollocks to it' and operate a more or less basic schedule, allowing plenty of time for loading, turnarounds and scheduled maintenance. And would this approach cause more problems than the current situation?

No one has really replied on this point yet, it would be of interest to see what the feeling would be.

The old 'cost per mile' has been rolled out a few times and actually works in the Packets favour.

I would also guess that they would be more than willing to compare against the planes on 'reliability' as well.

perhaps you could point out the more expensive cost per mile routes on sea travel on 'normal' ferries. no QE2's round the bay. an overnighter from europe to half way up the english coast cost less than liverpool to douglas. even worse for airfare costs.

You have a valid point. Yes the steam packet could say bollocks to the TT and run the std schedule, in which case for the sake of the TT, I would hope the Govt would hire a very large and relaible boat to get everybody here that wants to come.

But if the Steam Packet have already taken the money from 41,000 customers they should be making the effort, in plenty of time, to secure vessels capable of servicing their committment.
