[mr] Dot To Face No Confidence Vote

Recommended Posts

The Braddan roundabout + the proposed QB are totally fouled by one major requirement - the sacred TT course - we should see the whole road layout from before QB through to hospital turnoff redesigned and tell the TT to live with it.

i think they can appeal to both sides of the coin.

what they really need to do to quarter bridge is move the roundabout that is on the peel road (not at the bottom of brae hill) further down the course with traffic routed through a briefly redeveloped TT service road. basically just spacing the roundabouts apart more

Is the motion likely to even be seconded?

Having Bill Malarkey 'on board' with Peter Karran was a massive asset. At least having a seconder will allow the motion to be debated and then voted on. And that is where our politicians' true colours show.

No seconder, them the motion will drop like a stone off the end of the Victoria Pier.

We should listen to what Peter Karran has to say to the motion. If you agree with it but your MHK (or for that matter, any MHK) doesn't second it then you should ask them why. If they don't have a damn good reply then they should consider if they are worthy of your vote at the next election.

Totally agree with you.

Actually, the new QB roundabout is fouled by the fact that it does not address the simple problem with QB as it stands now - 9 lanes in, 4 lanes out. Changing to the proposed new layout will just make one even bigger mess.

Simple answer is to get rid of the plastic raod furnature and put in a pelican crossing.

I'd say the main problem is that people coming from the West have to give way to people coming from the South.

Short of moving Peel down South the problem is always going to be there no matter how swanky the roundabout is.

The only effective solution would be properly timed traffic lights or an alternative route for traffic coming from the South but given that they have fucked up the quay that one is unlikely

They should be made to raise their hats and tug their fore-locks as well in a visible display of geographical subservience. Hail the sophisticates of the South in their 4 x 4's you Western Escort driving peasants.

why force them left onto the TT escape road and then come back at the hospital roundabout - perfect puts them in their place behind Peel traffic

I disagree with most of the comments in that there have been significant improvements to the roads over the years - imagine a two way Victoria Street/Prospect Hill and Ridgeway Street with a policeman directing traffic just as one used to do at the bottom of Broadway. There have been huge improvements and many of them are not even the subject of comments - viz the roundaboout at the top of Spring Valley!

It is not their fault that the numbers of cars has increased at such a huge rate that they could not have predicted!

Where I think the DOT is at huge fault is the incredible time (and, therefore cost to them and us and inconvenience to us) that it takes them when they start to do anything until it is finished. Their management of schemes and the numbers of men used seem to be prehistoric and is definitely pathetic!!

Look at the time that the road from Janets corner to the roundabout towards the airport has been disrupted for remedial; work! Look at the space available, with only one half of the road closed, to them for the work to be carried out and the number of times you go past to see no one doing anything!

Why not shut the road completely, get on with the work in shifts and complete it in a fortnight rather than cause chaos for months? It would be cheaper, in the long run, and cause less frustration and inconvenience to everyone.

Yep, great idea. Somebody should ring Mr Hannay up and ask him.

Imagine ?, some of us can remember when a policeman stood on a wedge-shaped board on point duty on Prospect Hill controlling 2-way traffic in 5 directions, I remember Jimmy Fisher and Terry Miles could keep 3 directions going at the same time, and that was when the main exit from Shaws Brow car park was beside Westminster Bank, and Dicky McKibbin used to play tricks with learner drivers by picking up his platform and running onto the pavement until they had gone past :D

I don't think that is the case any more! Modifications have been carried out at various points of the course with dubious results.

I think that the only way to ease the said junctions is to have proper 3 lane 'A' roads running all over the Island with proper large roundabouts and wide approaches into them! Do you like that idea? Probably not because it would ruin the character of the Island, just as obliterating QB, Braddan, Governors etc would do!

If we were to ease the junctions for the twice daily 30-45min congestion we have, we only increase the effect of the traffic somewhere else. The next thing we know is we'll have motorways running through our towns and villages!

The Island roads are on the whole good. Its driving and etiqutte that make the problems with flow

On the Channel Islands traffic at junctions is zippered by their highway code. Ie you go in order one car from each entrance to a junction at a time. All Traffic keeps moving and there are no long waits. We should adopt the zipper her in the IOM, get rid of lots of traffic lights and have traffic move more freely
