Beer Prices Slashed

Recommended Posts

However in defence of Wetherspoons they do usually take over old buildings, banks, cinemas etc and breathe new life into them rather than them sitting idle boarded up. In my experience of the few Wetherspoons I've been in, each one has been different because they are all in different old buildings!

Agreed. They also have a tendency to provide good beers, good (well at least acceptable) cheap food, and a quiet (no blaring juke box, no loud sports) atmosphere where you can have a good chat without having to shout.

They couldn't have f***ed up the business any better than if they'd employed some evil genius to bring it to its knees IMO. It's just shareholders sitting back these days and piss-poor management running it all IMO - whilst those that founded the business and put their heart and soul into it will be turning in their graves. There is ownership/management associated with the pub trade over here that should be ashamed of themselves, that should start falling on swords and f**k off out of it. An utter disgrace.

Agreed. If you can't make money selling beer on the IOM then the whole world economy is irredeemably f**ked beyond all hope. Too much money spent on creating wankey pubs for over mortgaged tossers, then they wonder why nobody is throwing money across the bar anymore.

Behave. The shabby shit-holes that remain are virtually deserted.

Hey, this cheap beer lark is quite good.

If you go down the pub now the main topic of conversation seems to be talking about when beer first went up to £2 and how much your first ever pint cost and what pub it was in and loads of stuff like that.

The beer in my local is now even cheaper than McBeths, so I'm afraid I'm going to have to hang up my Dayglo jacket for my usual Friday night pint in the Jocks pub..

Cheaper than MacBeths, gee .....

I notice that McDeaths now has a "free Wi Fi" sign on the door. What is that about? I assume its so that its usual clientelle can now interrupt their fights and bouts of vomiting by surfing for porn before going home to beat the shit out of the wife.

Tis a great place alright. It must save the CID a fortune on organising identity parades - all they have to do is look at who is lined up smoking in the doorway of McBeths. There's usually 6 dodgy looking blokes in donkey jackets who look like they're guilty of something standing outside.

mmmm I wonder if anyone has mentioned to Wetherspoons tho old Woolworths site is up for sale

Now there's a good idea.

Oh dear lord no it isnt.....

Oh yes it is - bring some much needed competition and break up the H & B monopoly.

No it won't - it'll just take over and then get bored and pull out, a bit like BA with the airlines. I once worked in a Wetherspoons establishment, it was one of the most depressing jobs I have ever had.

It's nice to see beer prices in H&B pubs go down. But don't expect it to be permanant. They are coming to the end of their financial year and are probably trying to increase volumes to hit targets and maintain discounts from their suppliers.

They are not a charity!!

But look out for the little people who are not H&B employed and who have had no reduction in their wholesale prices. How do they compete?

Non H&B pubs tend to be cheaper anyway. The Rovers, Albert, Jaks and even McDeaths are all cheaper. And the Rovers has a real fire.

Well none of them are cheaper just now are they.

So perhaps if the brewery can hold out long enough these pubs will go out of business. (ok, ok, just another conspiracy theory)

Edited to add: that real fire in the Rovers is brilliant. Get in there early and hog it is what I do.

How can heron and brearly afford to slash their prices like this? surely they have'nt been overcharging us for these past few years. or is it because there were only 5 people in the creek tonight and they have finally realised that people are sick and tired of being ripped off

When asked why the cuts had been introduced he (Joint managing director Chris Taggart) said: 'We are thanking all our customers over the years and giving them a nice New Year's present.'

Yeah! Right! <_<
