Cret
I've had a couple of tickets earlier in the year which were questionable. So I questioned them and got off with both.
We Like The Moon
What annoys me is when I see packs of them (what is the collective name for a group of traffic wardens - a twat of traffic wardens?) walking up and down the prom - just the bit where you diagonal park when there are so many badly and illegally parked cars further up the prom, or higher up in Douglas - is that it is rich pickings in that area and they are only out to make money and that they are too fat, old or lazy to police the other areas or is that the only place they do police? I got off with a parking ticket because I was late back and when I got the reply it said something about in my profession I should sort of know better - so that got me thinking - how the fuck did they know that - I mean the car is registered to my hubby so it was his profession they were talking about - but I was a bit shocked by that - cheeky fuckers. hboy
I went to my car yesterday to find a ticket and thought, how the hell did I get a ticket....I'm half an hour back early to my car. Opened up the ticket and saw it was " failure to show vehicle licence ", looked in my window and its still there ( bottom left hand of my window, very clear to see ). Nothing would surprise me now that they have that bunch of sub contracted COCKS out spray ticketing Douglas. They must be on some form of commission based on the way they seem to be operating recently. Its a shame that the corpy seems to have reduced itself to contracting services out to such a bunch of overly officious little tosspots who seem to be running a ticketing cartel in central Douglas. Bray Hill
Martin Lewis (moneysavingexpert.com) covered this last week on the Jeremy Vine show (radio 2). I would suggest you have a look on his website and look for parking tickets. What he said about parking tickets was brilliant. One thing he did stress was (a bit late now) is to take pictures of anything that will help your case - i.e. your parking disc / tax disc / parking signs etc. and take it to the relative authority. These people on the end of the phone lines in govt. are complete arseholes.
molly
I have always found the wardens to be quite a decent bunch really. I suppose its because i respect they have a job to do. I drive a commercial van and have never had a ticket, if i have been parked where i shouldn't have been or longer than i should have been the wardens have always had a skeet about to find me rather than write out a ticket as quick as poss. Good guys i think. If i ever get a ticket it will be because i deserve one.
WTF
If you were half an hour early back to your car (assuming that it was on a disk zone which is for 1 hour), did you look around to see if you could see the parking inspector in the vicinity and ask them about it as they wouldn't have been too far away would they? When you write the letter enclose a photocopy of your vehicle licence to prove that you have one. looked in my window and its still there ( bottom left hand of my window, very clear to see ). Depending on whether you mean left hand side whilst sitting in car, or whilst looking at the car, the rules state "Display a tax disc on the passenger side (kerb side) of the vehicle’s windscreen. If there’s no windscreen or you have a motorcycle or sidecar, display the tax disc on the kerb side of the vehicle." so maybe they just looked in the wrong place for it. I was in a rush to get away, as I was going to pick up my GF from the airport. I had a look around on my way out of the road to see if anyone was there but I couldnt see anyone. Yeah, left hand side ( passenger side ) when in the car. I've posted it off now, I never thought to enclose a copy as I thought it wouldnt matter, since the dispute is over me displaying the disc. where were you parked?? i think going by the quote on where the tax disc has to be it is a bit out dated, depending on where you park and how, it could be the rear window ( diagonal parked on prom ) or the drivers side of the vehicle on a one way street that is 'kerb side', also in a left hand drive car, and there's a few of those around, the 'passenger' side is the opposite to usual. poorly worded legislation considering the passenger side is not necessarilly kerb side, i think your real issue is that coming up with a photo yourself of it being there doesn't prove it was there at the time?? i would hope if you had a valid disc you would get away with it if it was there as you claim. ( i'm not saying it wasn't ) Edited September 26, 2009 by WTF
Nitro
Not had a ticket yet, despite sometimes I find myself parking on double yellows or the "coaches only" spaces, as I live along the prom. Friday nights and Saturday nights are a nightmare to park, Rest of the week its not too bad, making a parking permit worthless (hence why I didn't get one), 24hrs free parking anyway. After 20 minutes of trying to find a space (or trying to turn around legally in a side street only to find some twat has done a U turn or swerved onto the opposite side of the road and parked there already) makes me give up! Be nice if they charged for parking along the prom, I'd be able to buy a permit then and i'm sure it'd be emptier.
Bombay Bad Boy
I once had a tax disk fall off my bike as I was going along. I couldn't find it, so I contacted the office about getting a replacement. Although it was a few days before I had a chance to pop down to the Sea Terminal, I asked specifically, and was informed quite clearly, that it was still legal to ride, as they had a record in the system of it being taxed. "Just watch out for traffic wardens" she said. Which strikes me as strange, if the relevant officials can look up your reg no and see it is taxed, why is there a need to display it at all? P.K.
Some parking deserves a ticket. Spot the Manx-registered vehicle parked in front of me last week at Ikea Warrington. Quality!
Albert Tatlock
Believe me some budget is skint and they are trying to recoup it through the parking wardens. I think that too, there has been far more aggressive ticketing in a few areas, plus they are now going up roads they previously never even thought of visiting. P.K.
The thing to remember is that they are charging you for parking on land which in theory you own anyway!
