WTF
Some parking deserves a ticket. Spot the Manx-registered vehicle parked in front of me last week at Ikea Warrington. Quality! it must belong to a pilot ( planes are parked with the lines down the middle FYI )
RC-Drift.com
Nothing would surprise me now that they have that bunch of sub contracted COCKS out spray ticketing Douglas. They must be on some form of commission based on the way they seem to be operating recently. Its a shame that the corpy seems to have reduced itself to contracting services out to such a bunch of overly officious little tosspots who seem to be running a ticketing cartel in central Douglas. Nowt to do with the corpy, it's the DOT
Cret
It seems if you know them or have 'arrangements' with them you don't have to worry. I'm not going to state specifics as I don't want to say anything that I shouldn't possibly, but I've heard one person whinging like mad working in a particular establishment after getting ticketed, for the parkie to respond with "Sorry love, it wasn't us it was so & so - they don't normally do here and they didn't know not to. If it happens again let me know straight away and I'll sort it out, don't worry". Grrrrrr! I've also seen someone else of said establisment parked on the pavement repeatedly outside, while the parkies are in there but no tickets get issued. Another case of who you know & it grates when other people are getting ticketed left right & centre. I always make an effort to park sensibly & legally. 1) because I'm not bothered at all if I have to walk a bit to get somewhere, 2) because I like to think I'm reasonably considerate and don't like to think I might cause someone else a problem, and 3) because I just cannot afford to pay for parking tickets. P.K.
it must belong to a pilot ( planes are parked with the lines down the middle FYI ) Actually it belonged to a tv company.

What will those in power do about it ..... bugger all as usual. There are, in my belief, commissions or other payments perpetuating this painfully ridiculous process. Albert Tatlock
I wouldn't underestimate just how much ticketing and general anti-parking in Douglas is killing businesses in town too. It keeps me away from town for sure. If I do need to go into town, I usually get the bus in and tie my messages up with my odd trip to the pub now, and if I have to go in for something unexpected it's always a quick in and out. I haven't window shopped in Douglas for years now. Piss poor planning from the corpy, the real architects of this mess IMO. And the government, with several thousand government employee cars heading into Douglas every morning, taking up floors of exisitng car parks and spots in town, when some of these major departments could be located out in Ramsey, Peel etc. and do a bit to spread the wealth too, freeing up that parking for people to return to town. They are killing Douglas and missing the whole point, whilst prioritising dog shit and litter. You wouldn't need so many traffic wardens out in force if parking had been planned better. Many golden opportunities to tie in parking with shopping have been lost over time. Traffic wardens should be renamed Business Prevention Officers. Lost Login
They are literally hunting in packs of three up Athol Street, Myrtle Street and Upper Hill Street from 9:30 in the morning. Screwing low paid employees who can't afford £5 a day to park for £40 a go for being 2 minutes off the clock at the height of a recession is just cowardice in my book. If they can not afford the £5 a day parking then use public transport or park where it is free and walk in.
Cresta Fiesta
So who did it get contracted out to then? I thought it was still dealt with in-house, the traffic wardens themselves appear to be the same faces?
jimbms
Nowt to do with the corpy, it's the DOT Almost correct some of them are with G4 on contract to D.o.T (Now on a new contract with reduced wages which may account for them being pissed off), the rest are Police/Douglas Corpy employees who are on twice the salary of the G4 ones (another reason for the G4 ones to be grumpy). The difference is on the badge/jacket wording you will note one says traffic controller the other warden.
ScorpionFish
They also do nothing about people who park in loading bays or indeed taxis blocking loading bays. Outside Barclays in Victoria St is a prime example. My delivery guys have a nightmare trying to park legally to drop things off because of this. When you point it out to them the wardens just shrug. This has definitely become worse recently as previously some of the wardens were very helpful. Debs

Declan
In the meantime Douglas is made infinitely worse for all of us who have to work and shop there on a daily basis. Not for me. Douglas would be better, for me, if nobody drove into it. Let's hope more vigilant enforcement of the parking restrictions will reduce the number of cars scattered willy-nilly across Douglas. Is the fine really only £40? That's not much of a deterrent, especially when violators are not getting caught each time they mis-park. Night Sky
I was driving on the road that goes round the back of the Strand Shopping centre and on towards the back of M&S. There was a Manx Independants van stopped on the left blocking up 50% of the road, it was around the back of the sports shop. I stopped behind it but knew I could get past if I went up the curb onto the pavement on the right handside. I didn't fancy doing that however as the curb at that particular point was quite high and my car is fairly new and didn't want to cause any damage to wheels or scrape the underneath. There was a traffic warden/controller walking towards where we were about 50 yards ahead. I sat there and waited for him as I thought he would get them to move. As he approached I gestured politly pointing towards the van. He blindly ignored the van and walked past it to me. I opened the window and asked him if he could to tell him to move. I knew something was up straight away as he had just walked past the van that I am sitting behind and its fairly obvious what I am going to say. This guy obviously had a major major chip on his shoulder...... you know the type, one of those people you come across every now and again that will do anything to be awkward and a general inconveinence in any way they can. I could just tell straight away by the tone of his voice and demeanour, it was like he thought me asking him to do something about this great big bloody van blocking a one way street was in turn me telling him to do his job. Anyway he looked at me and the gap in the road and said "you can fit through there". I thought bloody hell this guy really is a tosser, is he having a laugh or what? I didn't bite though and said that "my car was fairly new and I didn't want to scratch, scrape or damage it". (He must have been implying to go up the curb as there was no way I was fitting past on the road. Last time I checked though, I am pretty sure it was illegal to drive along pedestrian foot paths in your car). Anyways he just looks at me and says "well you will have to wait then" making out as I was the actually perpatrator and causing the problem to the traffic now accumulating behind me and proceeded to walk off. So here is this fucking idiot who is supposed to be upholding the law, blatently telling me to break the law and being very arrogant, rude and obnoxious in his whole approach to my simple request, whilst also not doing his job! Anyways waited about 40 seconds the guy comes out the back of which ever shop he had been dropping stuff off at gives a wave of apology and off we went. Seems to me some of these people have real power issues and little man syndrome. This guy was very rude and obviously unhelpful. He also was not interested in this van blocking the road. For all he knew the van could have been parked there for 15 minutes already! Like has been said they seem more interested in doing poor old Mrs Betty who is 5 minutes late returning to their car as the ques in M&S were big that day. Albert Tatlock
I was driving on the road that goes round the back of the Strand Shopping centre and on towards the back of M&S. No excuse for rudeness from the traffic warden, but I have to say you could have been a little more patient (for a few minutes). That road backs onto many shops which have to get stocked, without oodles of delivery trucks/vans travelling the length of Strand Street, and then carrying stock to the back of the shop through the shop. Trucks sometimes have to block roads delivering, or take up both carriageways manouvering, and it is amazing over here just how many drivers and pedestrians (some with prams) are too impatient and risk rushing through gaps etc. even when a truck is in the middle of manouvering etc. Maybe it was the wardens way of telling you to be patient - maybe he saw the truck pull up, and you later approach it on his walk towards it much further down the road? - that his telling you that maybe you were being an impatient arse without saying it to your face? That road is narrow at the best of times and should be avoided if possible IMO, with all too many skinflints and piss-poor parkers blocking it parking at the Safeway end and at the M&S end, when there are parking and disabled facilities for people at both shops. You'd have got short shrift even from many a truck driver I suspect, if he'd just pulled up to deliver for a few minutes, and you expected him to keep going just so you could get past - he might only get one delivery in a day at that rate. Frances
- the DOT has contracted the services out to a bunch of particularly unhappy miserable tossers from G4S ... they also appear to have given the job of security at sea terminal to same company
