Another Parking Ticket Rant....

I was driving on the road that goes round the back of the Strand Shopping centre and on towards the back of M&S.

No excuse for rudeness from the traffic warden, but I have to say you could have been a little more patient (for a few minutes). That road backs onto many shops which have to get stocked, without oodles of delivery trucks/vans travelling the length of Strand Street, and then carrying stock to the back of the shop through the shop.

Trucks sometimes have to block roads delivering, or take up both carriageways manouvering, and it is amazing over here just how many drivers and pedestrians (some with prams) are too impatient and risk rushing through gaps etc. even when a truck is in the middle of manouvering etc. Maybe it was the wardens way of telling you to be patient - maybe he saw the truck pull up, and you later approach it on his walk towards it much further down the road? - that his telling you that maybe you were being an impatient arse without saying it to your face?

That road is narrow at the best of times and should be avoided if possible IMO, with all too many skinflints and piss-poor parkers blocking it parking at the Safeway end and at the M&S end, when there are parking and disabled facilities for people at both shops.

You'd have got short shrift even from many a truck driver I suspect, if he'd just pulled up to deliver for a few minutes, and you expected him to keep going just so you could get past - he might only get one delivery in a day at that rate.

I disagree with you. He shouldn't have been a lazy ass an parked right outside the shop where it was narrow. There are wider parts where he could pull in and cars could still get past. I'm sure a 20-50 yard walk wouldn't have held him up too long on his days chours.

So you are saying sometimes its ok to break the law? Strange outlook to say the least......maybe I will use that one......

You argument about the warden is entirly hyperthetical too. That was not my main gripe either it was the mentality and attitude of the warden. Sounds to me you are disagreeing just for the sake of it IMHO.

Depends what he was delivering surely. If large and heavy then an extra 50 yards is a lot.

Missing the point some-what here.

Have I ran into a couple of delivery drivers in disguise? ;)

Close but no prize :) but I do have drivers who work for me as I posted earlier. Not Manx Indie though (thank the lord) x

Seems to me some of these people have real power issues and little man syndrome. This guy was very rude and obviously unhelpful.

And it seems to me the same can be said of you.

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't say that if we met, however the same could not be said for this guy.

For clarification double yellow lines means no waiting not no loading/unloading for this to occur you also need the yellow stripes on the kerb, so as you see it is legal for a van to load/unload on double yellow lines so long as he removes the vehicle as soon as he is finished. as for the contract wardens G4 had the contract before all what happened recently was the laid them all off and took them back on under different conditions, having talked to some of them, it seems they get no bonus but are expected to justify their jobs i.e. if they don't book people they arn't doing thier job, but to add to this if you don't want a ticket then park legally, simple.

“Buy” a blue card.

A medical certificate costs about a grand over here from most private clinics if you complain of a bad back and have a simple exam saying "ouch" occasionally and let them take a couple of X-rays

With that getting a blue card’s a cinch. Just apply for it in then usual way.

You haven't explained what a blue card is Rog - can you enlighten us?

I don't like the sounds of the means you're describing though, as it rather sounds like trying to get something that ought to be for more serious situations.

Declan - I can see the point you're making about the cost of tickets. There's way too many cars on the roads and especially into Douglas. On top of that there are way too many ignorant/arrogant twunts who just think they have every right to park where & how they please, and it grates.

I hate having to drive into Douglas so often, and I actually quite like sitting back & enjoying some music or a film when I get the bus in. I'd do it more if it was remotely practical to, but 4 out of working days I have to also drop the wife and the little un off at different places and it just wouldn't be doable by bus. Now I'm sure there are plenty in the same sort of situation where it's just not practical most of the time to get the bus, but still the parking is a pain in the hole and I can ill afford to get tickets at £40 a pop, hence I make every effort to park correctly. Paying £80 a month for parking is bad enough as it is.

There's plenty of berks driving expensive cars that don't seem to care if they get a ticket because parking where they fancy is probably more 'important' to them than £40 when they have pots of cash and won't notice the dent in the wallet. I believe in some countries traffic offense charges are means tested and it seems complicated but more fair. Not sure how that works but maybe it could be directly linked to a tax code or something - who knows.

There should be encouragement for either public transport or the likes of car sharing (or both ideally) but it seems the government are only interested in making sure that their own car parks are full to get the revenue, but while ensuring the free spaces are impractical or just wiped out to force you where they want.

The whole thing stinks. Of fumes, and bad planning/greed.

Sorry rog makes no difference here on double yellow lines you can only park in disabled spaces with a blue badge or for double time in a normal space UK rules do not apply the only exception being is that if a disabled space is partially blocked you may park behond on DYL's so long as you don't cause obstruction or within 7 metres of a junction

The whole thing does stink; you're right.

Where I work the staff is generally made up of young mums working school hours. They don't earn a lot and can't use the bus because they have to run the children in and out of school and because of the corpy's stupid pricing policy at Shaws Brow they are stuck with having to pay the daily £4.50 charge even though they are gone by 3pm to pick the kids up. Some of them in the last couple of weeks have chanced it on pay and display because they are a bit skint, and many have got stung more than once because people are right in the last month or so the wardens have certainly geared it up a few notches.

I'm sure that the wardens are chuffed because they've had multiple £40 tickets issued to make them look good, but really these are low income flexible hours workers who are being screwed because of a) Rubbish planning and b) Because the corpy borrowed a stupid amount of money to build Shaws Brow so have to make it pay by shafting all its users.

It totally stinks in my opinion.

Oh and by the way the comments on the wardens are also correct - rude and aggressive certainly in the last few months. Has there been a new intake?

Sorry for the late reply Albert, my tax disc is fully up date, infact it has another 5 months on it yet. It clearly states month issued etc etc.

I even asked one of them on Saturday when I parked in town if he could see my tax disc, to which he replied " yeah that pretty clear, " to which I said, " then why did I get a ticket ",....reply, " I cant really say ".

I getting ready for a battle with them, if this did go to court how would I go about proving my innocence?

As its my word, againist the ticket issuer.

I thought it would be a case of them having to prove that my disc wasnt there?

Why don't you just fill in the form and see how you get on before ranting on here?

You'd have to question the wisdom of creating a thread, where you say many derogatory things about traffic wardens, before you lodge an appeal, particularly when you've given enough detail to make your case easily identifiable when it comes in if they happen to read these forums.
