Dan, the rules are very strict - disproportionately so - player stops a goal, he is sent off, banned, and a penalty given. So instead of one goal, most times there's still a goal and his team play the rest of the game with 10 men and without a first choice player in their next match. It's unfortunate that the penalty was missed and that it was the last minute, but you can't have a different set of rules depending upon when it happens.

It was a good game, both teams played attacking football. And although I'd say on balance Ghana deserved it, had Uruguay gone out because the handball hadn't happened we'd now be talking about whether it was a free kick (looks like the Ghanan fell over of his own accord) or whether Uruguay should have had a penalty in the second half.

..or whether Ghana should have had a penalty before that one.

There is no excusing what happened. No defying the cheat that Suarez is. Uruguay have no respect and deserve nothing. They are out. Ghana are in the semi's.

You can pick apart minute details of any game and point out decisions that could have been different.

I'm not sure why you'd feel the need to "defy" Suarez, or for that matter how you'd achieve it considering he's unlikely to ever issue you instruction. Did you mean denying? If so, then I think you'll find there's a large number of people who would dispute that entirely. He didn't try and con anyone, or deceive anyone, or hide what he did. Unsporting and unfair? Sure. But it's not cheating.

Umm.....

I thought that it was a fantastic game last night with the skills and drama that was missing from the Holland v Brazil game.

IMO it is wrong to label Suarez a cheat. If any of us had been in his shoes what would we have done? Ducked and let it be a goal or tried instinctively to save it? Whatever he did he was going to get a bucketing - duck and he would have been villified for not trying to stop the ball. Make a save and he gives away a penalty. Probably 8 or 9 times out of 10 that would have seen Ghana through anyway.

It might make more sense for soccer to do the same as rugby does and in cases like this to award a goal rather than a penalty kick.

It is a shame that either of these teams had to lose as both entertained.

He could miss the rest of the World Cup;

FIFA have confirmed that Uruguay striker Luis Suarez could miss the rest of the World Cup following his hand-ball against Ghana

FIFA's disciplinary code gives the committee the option of a longer ban for "unsportsmanlike conduct".

Suarez is being hailed as a hero in his home country but the incident has provoked condemnation in other parts of the world.

His action is also contrary to FIFA's fair play code which states: "Winning is without value if victory has been achieved unfairly or dishonestly. Cheating is easy, but brings no pleasure".

Germany have had their fun now. Spain will out class them.

...and Uruguay will beat them in the final...
