We dont have polecats or weasel etc on the island, just wild ferret,

If only there was some website where you could compare them

Can you not make the chickens less tasty?

oh aye less tasty chickens, how does that work then ?.

Dunno, but KFC seem to manage it

FERRETS are domesticated hybridised mink arent they ?..

Although I appreciate they are vermin in being a problem to chicken owners. I think it is a bit sad really when such things are deemed worthy of killing without any bother at all.

Are there not relatively cheap ways of dealing with the problem without resorting to killing them?

What like let them go so they can come back the next night and kill again.

Polcats dont just kill to eat, they kill for the fun of killing.

Thats why there such vermin because they just kill for the sake of it.

I hope you are successfull in your endeavour.

Can i suggest that once you have it in the cage reach in and grab it by its belly and pull it out. Then give it a brisk shake and it will cower and lie quiet. Let it go and it will never return.

Is that b4 or after it bites your fingers off

We used to have hens when we lived 'on the other side'. We had a rampage by a fox. The result was very nasty as the fox would go for the rear end so we had quite a few birds that were not killed but mashed up enough to make their lives pretty unsustainable, if you get my drift. In the end we abandoned keeping the birds as we ended up subliminally on fox-watch, which meant that the cons of fowl-keeping outweighed the pros, although I would love to have a couple of hens here. Great for your left overs and quite cute when you swing them to put them to sleep. AND you get eggs!
