The Sinking Of The Laconia

Recommended Posts

Very well made two part Drama on the BBC:

Drama telling the true story of the Laconia, sunk on the 12th September 1942 by a German U-Boat, which then surfaced against orders to rescue the women, children and POWs on board.

As an aside, I used to work with the mum of Ken Duken - the actor who plays Captain Hartenstein - at a local theater back home. I used to do stage tech as an evening job during school, mum was acting on stage and little Ken was running around, telling everyone he'll be a movie actor one day - seems he's done rather well for himself :)

The drama showed, yet again, that Alan Bleasdale is a superb writer.

The documentary, with survivors stories, was also very moving.

However - the white sub titles were a pain in the back side.

But good viewing.
