think it is the same owner or management as the new train station restaurant

Went to Artisan today and have to say fantastic!!!! - no pissing about great food, no stupid dress code rules, great staff and not a bad price.     Fuck you Mailbox!

Similar to Chapters-couldn't decide what it wanted to be and tried to be all things to everybody.

I think it knew what it wanted to be. Its just that the w@nkers it set out to appeal to are now either unemployed, have had their corporate credit cards cut up, or can't justify putting the cost through their businesses any more.

Ridiculous prices, posh twats as clientele.

I am glad it failed, this is the Isle of Man, where do you think you are - the OC?

The only downside is the knobs who like places like that will now clutter up everywhere else for the rest of us.

Places like that do actually serve a purpose - the posh twats think its exclusive, the rest of us are glad it keeps them out of our places.

mailbox closed for good today on circular road, earlier than expected, thought they would last to Christmas! Not sure if there are many buyers out there wanting to waste more cash on that one!

Have they made a formal announcement? It is normally closed on a Monday afternoon and evening.

Wayyy too expensive, thought it was THE upmarket place on the island when in reality it was an average idea with extortionate prices to attempt to justify it.

Having said that I went into Artisan the other night and for a beer and a glass of wine it came to £10:50! With prices like this it's no wonder people aren't prepared to go out and get ripped off anymore.

That seems to be it, if you're going to charge the prices you have to back it up with the best food and service.

There is still a market for fine dining, McFarlanes continues to do well and is often busy. How's Portofino doing, anyone been recently?

Bitter much? These establishments aren't just for the very wealthy, they're special occasion venues. Sometimes you want burger n chips and sometimes you want fine dining, and are prepared to pay the difference.

In summary, you feel out classed by people who earn a moderate living and enjoy going to nice places. The sort of chap who would happily pull his own kind back to ground zero if they ever found the ambition to break the cycle and get a decent job. Undoubtedly on handouts and fiercely defending your belief that the state owes you a house. Apart from that, probably enjoys the odd fight on a Friday night. Somewhere near the mark old bean?

Some advice - the people who make it in life are the positive ones. The people in the nice restaurants and bars aren't posh twats but grafters who are doing ok and want to treat their friends and partners to the better things in life. Drinking wine doesn't make you a softlad. They would accept you, you know - you just need to remove that portion of chips from your shoulder and stop being such a tosser.

I totally agree. If you get it right, whether at the higher or lower end of the price range restaurants can still do well in the IoM. Places like Macfarlanes, L'Experience show that.

For me it was always about location ...

Silly as it seems, although Bar G is only two streets down, it's just a far better option. What a lazy arse I must be ...

Coupled wiith the fact that it just didn't look inviting, tagged within an office block.

Shame for the them but that's the way the cookie crumbles. Evolve, adapt, compete ...
